Title: The Imperial Raid
Post by: Kweassa on July 11, 2002, 12:59:06 AM
Burma, 1943

Military intelligence has revealed what looks as a civilian town was actually American military base code named "V-33". The brave pilots of the Imperial Japanese Army raided this site 8:30 this morning. A flight of our most competent dive bombers have effortlessly rendered this installation useless with almost no casualties.

Our own brave photo-journalist accompanying the pilots have captured the moment before the attack:

Losses are mounting for both sides, but the firm resolve of our own Imperial soldiers is enough to make us believe this war will be won for the side of the Divine father land and the Emperor. The Americans with their inferior technology suffer terrible air-to-air losses as our superior Type Zero fighter planes smash through their puny defenses.

Dateline: Burma, July 10, 1943..."Japanese Air Raid Repulsed with Heavy Losses"

By Richard Jenkins
A small Chinese village surrounded by rice paddies became the focus of one of the largest most sustained aerial assaults mounted thus far by the dastardly forces of Imperial Japan.  Code named "V33", this non-descript village was located adjacent to a Chinese Army military depot, drawing the unwelcome attention of the Japanese agressors.

The onslaught was successfully repulsed by the gallant heros of the USAAF 23 Figther Group, the direct decendant unit of the American Volunteer Group, the world-famous "Flying Tigers."  They were aided on the ground by the sharp-shooting gunnery skills of the US Army, which had fortuitously stationed a mobile anit-aircraft platoon at the base.  Several enemy fighters and dive-bombers were downed by the American P-40 Warhawk fighters, with a half-dozen more falling victim to accurate anti-aircaft fire.

"The Japs just kept coming at us!" exclaimed SSgt Roland Jersy, a gunner stationed at V33.  "Our fighters would bait them Jap pilots into following them, then lead 'em right over the top of us.  It was like shoot'n fish in a barrel!"

American aircraft losses were reported as light.

Great fun, guys.  I flew for the first half of my time on-line, then switched to an M16 when my squadie had to log off.  Great pics, btw.   to the IJN, for their determined efforts.

Eagler.. I'm not any kind of expert with the Photoshop program, and I think I sort of went through every bit of 'filter' tinkering there is until I got something I wanted :) .. basically, most of it was adding 'grain' effect for aging looks, some 'lens flare' effects, special type of 'blur out' effect (some sort of 'zoom blur') for the P-40 vs Zero pic, normal 'blur out' for the Vals. Everything else was all sort of 'trial and error' adding this, adding that.. and etc. :)

lol, how could a half a dozen of us get shot down when only 5 vals went out and at least 3 returned :D
(and if I remember right there was no aa fire, if there was it was down in first dive or 2 cuz I don't remember it :) )

Hehe...when your side prints it, its called "news."  When the enemy prints it, it's called "propaganda":p.  Anyway, I upped in an M16 that same night, after my squady Snkybast logged off, from V33 when a number of Val's and Zeke's came in to attack it, so I thought that must have been you guys.  I got 5 or 6 kills, including several Vals (and yes, the fixed AAA was down).  Figured I'd better counter this obvious case of flagrant propaganda from you imperialist devils.  Great fun all around.  Gonna miss this set up, but at least the Malta one still has my beloved P-40 available.  I'll be up in there tonight, as soon as I finish pick'n pieces of A6M out of my shark's teeth.:D

I like those screenshots!  You chose good angles.  I particularly liked the last shot with the 3 Vals lined up on the runway - very nice, very inspirational.

And nice shooting on that P-40.  That's one for the record books!

Thanks!

Shooting P-40 down wasnt that hard, and I'm definitly not the best pilot by far, just look at my scores :D it takes a little while to shoot someone down, but its possible, I've shot a few spits, f4fs & SBD's with it too, its an ok dogfighter, even though it takes a lotta hits to shoot some1 down.
