Britons watch backs
British marines in Afghanistan came under a different kind of fire during operations in a remote region of the country two months ago.
The correspondent for the Scotsman newspaper reported from Bagram that the Britons were alarmed by propositions from groups of homosexual Afghan farmers after one operation deep in the Afghan mountains.
"They were more terrifying than the al Qaeda," said one marine, James Fletcher. "One bloke who had painted toenails was offering to paint ours. They go about hand in hand, mincing around the village."
The marines were propositioned by dozens of men in villages that were being searched in the hunt for al Qaeda terrorists.
"We were pretty shocked," said Mr. Fletcher, whose rank was not given. "We discovered from the Afghan soldiers we had with us that a lot of men in this country have the same philosophy as ancient Greeks: 'A woman for babies, a man for pleasure.'"
In some villages near Khost, Afghan homosexuals sought to stroke the marines' hair. "Every village we went into we got a group of men wearing makeup coming up, stroking our hair and cheeks, and making kissing noises," said Cpl. Paul Richard, 20.
At one village, homosexual Afghans invited the troops into a house. "They put some music on and ask us to dance. I told them where to go," said Cpl. Richard. "Some of the guys turned tail and fled. It was hideous."
Another marine, Vaz Pickles, told the newspaper that the hill tribes in Afghanistan appeared to be very isolated. "I think a lot of the problem is that they don't have the women around a lot," he said. "We only saw about two women in the whole six days. It was all very disconcerting."

Afghanistan is famous for MJ and hash that is cheap and strong. In fact, this drugs became popular in USSR after the Afghan adventure began.
Looks like that Brits should moderate the hash consumption, or next time they'll report magic carpets, jinns and talking sheeps.
Anyway, they must be happy they are greeted this way, not by the machinegun fire from the village walls.

Just lies, this.
One aspect of Afghan culture that is continually misunderstood in the West is the holding of hands.
In Afghanistan, male friends walk hand in hand at times. It signals the strength of the friendship between them and shows the connection.
We in the west see it more a a pair-bonding thing. Our way isn't necessarily the correct way to interpret it.
Besides, the Brits got gang-raped in 1776, and they're still sore :D

Back when we flew together from time to time, we wore leather and held hands.

1. "Check 6"
Every soldier who has to serve in Afghanistan should not only check his 6 but also all other directions. Actually the clans had started to fight each other again - even in Kabul two ministers of the new government have been assassinated until today.
And in the north-east the war-criminal "General" Dostum is trying to get the total power in that region.
2. "Symbols and signs"
About the different cultures and symbols only one thing I was informed:
In the western nations we use the thumb-up sign with our hand to signal "OK" but in the oriental nations it means the same as if we would raise the middle-finger here ;)
3. "British and interpretation of sex"
Hey - this is ridiculous.
I mean "British" and "sex" - these are two different worlds.

Even Mr. "How is my hair looking today" Beckham is painting is finger and toe-nails in light pink. (OK - with this zombie-wife he has I would also try to paint my eyeballs in other colours ;) )
There was a report about this in a german news magazine this week.
So maybe in this moment some shocked Afghans are discussing about this strange homosexual-like behavior of a british hero...
