Planes I'd most like to see:
B-25 Mitchell
SB2-C Helldiver
TBD Devastator
Faerie Swordfish
Brewster Buffalo
I don't know, maybe I just like the antique ones.
-
SB2-C was a late war plane. It sucked, but it was late war.
-
Agreed! I want all of those planes, especially fairey swordfish, and a Gloster Gladiator, B25 would also be very nice :)
-
Karnak, I think the SB2C Helldiver was a fine carrier attack plane, and in many ways, far superior to the Dauntless. It's main problem was, like the Corsair, initial lack of carrier suitability. It was much heavier than the Dauntless, and required a little more experience from it's pilot to get aboard safely. The landing gear was too weak to take the punishment of repeated arrestments, and was quickly beefed up. It also had a Curtis electric prop which had a tendancy to run away occaisionally, but that problem got solved as well. It could carry more that the SBD, go farther, faster, and had better offensive armament in the form of two 20mm in the wings (or was it four?!!).
I think it would make a great addition to the deck of that beautiful Essex class CV! :)

how about a RATO Sea Hurricane for the carrierless task groups and the merchant navy ships?
-
Everyone hated the SB2C, the british hated it so much in fact they flatly refused to buy them. The plane was a disater and a genuine scandal for the Navy. It also handled poorly and was innacurate in dive attacks due to this.
-
Well, look at it this way...the SBD and Val don't carry enough bombs, and the TBM is a lousy divebomber...we need something to fill the void...and the SB2-C sounds like a good idea. Did I mention that I also think the P-61 Black Widow would make a great addition?

if we're talking late war super weapons, how about the USAAF 1000 pound VB-1 radio guided bomb (bomb's rudder's were controled in flight by bombadier) it sure would help out all the folk's who've been having trouble calibrating their bomb sites
-
HE-177 (A5)
ME-410
Fw-190F8 loadouts (how about a Hagelkorn guided anti-ship missile....)
and last, but not least, see below

These are the same folks that thought the Boulton-Paul Defiant, and Fairy Battle were a great planes?
:D

We need the B-25H it had a 75mm HE cannon rockets para bombs skip bombs and was just a good plane
-
Ja, the odd bombs for the B-25 would introduce a whole new set of attack types - maybe a dam is needed on the germany map for lanc skip bimbers - parafrag were lightweight (60 lbs?) & probably couldn't do much dammage to ground targets (except taxing A/C), but could maybe shut down flack over a good radius for a few minutes until new gunners could take over the guns
-
The B-25 has so many possible roles and loadouts that adding it would be like adding 10 other planes at once. Has a 20MM in the nose (If I remember correctly), carries torpedoes, bombs, para bombs, etc., can take off from carriers (Ok was only done once but proved it can be done!)
-
in AH you can take off from a carrier now in a medium bomber, if u got 5ki||z (i dont - i can only get mossie off CV)
-
I'd like to chase down a V-1 buzz bomb every once in a while
