Anyone have some good advice for whats needed to deliver VHS to DVD (besides a DVD writer I figured that out on my own :)). Money not too much of a concern looking for something along the lines that works with home computer and can play on console DVD players like the one under my TV Sony DVP-NS400D

There's no real need for a dvd writer just to pull stuff from VHS. SVCD can be burned with most any cd burner and should be readable by any dvd player purchased in the last few years.

hmm
depends on the quality you are looking for
if you watch your tele after a 6 pack, SVCD & VCD are fine, otherwise invest in a DVD burner and get the quality of the original

Sounds like you've seen some bad vcd's Eagler. If you're copying from vhs you're just going to have a very detailed copy of a low quality original using a dvd burner. While SVCD is significantly lower quality than DVD it's still higher than VHS.
Yeah Creto, I'm a regular tree luvin peacenik.

Welp I went out and purchased a Dazzle 200 and a HP 200i DVD writer, havin' a blast pretty easy to use too. Thanks again for the intel gents.

Can you tell me how you go about transfering vhs to vcd/svcd?
All my attempts have come out pretty bad as they become pretty blocky once they are coverted down from avi to mpg.
