just wondering...
i guess im still considered new to flight sim games (never flew before feb. this year, and im sure it shows:D)
but for the forseeable(is that a word?) future i intend on flying only 1 plane. the FW190-d9. the reason for this is two fold... i want to become the best Dora pilot there can be, and from the books i have read it truly is a magnificant airplane.
yes my stats for the tour show a few other rides (im not including GV's into this discussion). the 110 for jabo on GV's and towns and vehicle hangars. the new a6m and f4f just to see what they could do, and goon for base capture.
but back to the question at hand.
how many of you fly only 1 plane almost exclusively?
what is it?
and why that plane?
thanks in advance... im just looking for some insight into other pilots train of thought so i can kill you all better:D
-
My Spit usually gets shot down very quickly, but then I just go grab another one!
:)
-
Well JB73 i can give you input.
I Fly the P51 Stang all the time in MA, in different arenas such as in duels i like to get away from P51 and fly much less complicated planes. I fly the P51 99.95% in MA. Since ACM is used with every plane no matter what plane it is.
I fly the P51 because i like the way i can judge the way i want to fight and who i want to fight. I will try to fight planes that i know i have a good chance of killing. I try not to stick around if i see he got more friends coming around. Since ive seen this happen to me since i was a noob. I also like the p51 cause i can chase people down easier. If i fly a spit in MA i fight them CO ALT and they start running from me, and then all that for nothing but i know i have a good chance catching them in a P51.
Hoped I showed ya some insight Now Come Find Me in MA and KILL ME!
:) Good Luck!

I spend about 75% of my flight time in the following 5:
109F
A6M5
C-Hog
Tiffy
Il-2
And I spend about 20% of my flight time in these:
109G-2
262
B-17
Lanc
Temp
190-A8
190D-9
Spits (all)
109E
P-38
P-47s
The other 5% of the time I try out new rides.
So I guess...
No

i spend 90% flying the P-40E
and 10% flying a specialized bird like a bomber or allround fighter.:D
-
Lotsa time in the 1-D, second choice 51D.
When I was new to sims, I'd pick a plane and fly it for the tour. You get experience in quite a few, learn what they can do, and can't. A little of everything, Spits, 109's, 190's, P40's, zekes etc.
Then apply what you've learned to your ride of choice. You then have a handle on what the other plane can do, and more importantly, what it can't vs. your ride of choice.
I got hooked on 190's for a couple of years :D
-
well i fly the 26 mostly.....
its like a light b-17..........u can fly it like a bomber when needed then allso do two barrel rolls and a flip and out manuver that pesky 109 or p51 and shoot em like ur a fighter
-
I don'y fly any 1 plane 99% but i do fly the RAF planeset 99% of the time. Although saying that i've been flying the spit a lot this tour, mostly V but IX aswell.
If i'm flying anything else it's usually just a 1 off for a mission.
-
P51b 50%
Spit V 15%
P47D11 15%
Tempest,Spit 14,109f/g2,F4Ud for the last 20%
-
95% p38L here :D... Next tour (if I decide to keep playing) will be 100% p38 for fighter/jabo.
-
I'm seriously confused, I can't even make up my mind which national planeset to stick with!
50% of the time you'll find me in:
P51B
Either Yak
190A-8
Dora
Spit5
110
Zeke
40% of the time in buffs
10% of the time trying other stuff.
-
I try and fly them all, usually end up forgetting my monthly 202 ration. I lean towards the P-40/Wildcat/FM2 since we got them. Overall since I began my AH career I've probably spent most of my time in F4U's/Jug's/P51s. All the bombers are fun.
-
i nearly always fly 1 plane... except now with new patch, i occasionally fly 3.....
i couldnt resist.... *chortle*
-
Bad LoGo, bad!!!!
I don't fly much, but my kills (which is a rough indicator of usage) is like this:
Mosquito Mk VI: 11
A6M2: 3
Bf109G-2: 2
M-16: 2
Spitfire Mk IX: 2
Il-2: 1
Ki-67: 1
Spitfire Mk XIV: 1
I have been killed three times in the P-51B without scoring a kill.
I have flown a B-17G and a Lancaster Mk III sortie without scoring a kill (or a death) in either.
-
nnnnnNNNOPE:p
-
I fly the:
109 f-4 most the time (mid to high alt)
110 g2 for Jabo
ki-61/a6m/yak 9u (low alt)
style of flying especially in this map is to take off with 50% fuel and drop tanks cruise around chilling looking for interesting 1v1, buff formations or Noob's in Uber rides (easy to spot) so I can Harvest more perkies :D
-
Ever since I've started playing online flight sims, 99.9% of the time was spent in the P-38. No other plane holds my fascination like the P-38 does, so I don't really see a reason to fly any other fighter.

I tend to have one plane each tour that I end up spending the vat majority of my time in. That being said I tend to have phases where I favor one plane over another... for a long long long long time it was the P51D, then the P51B came along and I flew that. Then I switched to LW rides for a spell and flew the 190a5 and 109F a lot. Then it was my blue period where I fell in love with the hellcat and spent time in Corsairs. Then last tour it was back to the 51 for the month and now I'm back in the F6F again. My trends tend to follow whatever books I'm reading at the time. Last month I was re-reading To Fly and To Fight for the 12,000th time. This month I seem to be reading "Hellcat" by Barret Tillman a lot, go fig. :)

90% of the time I am in a Jug. I fly it for a couple of reasons. First off I have always liked it because it has all the things I would want in a combat aircraft. Plenty of fire power, a heavy bomb load and most of all survivability. It's also one hell of a challenge to fly in the MA. If your SA is not top notch you will soon be creating a large hole in either the grond or the water. It is also very conducive to having a wingman so you have plenty of chances to develop wingman tactics with other jug pilots. Gine the Jug a try, I will guarantee you it will make you a better pilot.
9% of the time I am in a P-38. Just because I like it as a turn fighter.
1% of the time I am other aircraft, most notably the Yak 9T or a Hurri IIC if I an defending a field under heavy attack.

You're just having some bad luck. Stick with the B-pony, it'll turn around for you. At 25k and higher, it will fly rings around many of the so-called "Uber" rides.

My F6F-5 Hellcat is IMO the best plane out there. It can outrun mostly anything in a dive. It has 6 x 50 cal with 2400 rounds of ammunition, which is a TON of ammo. It can outturn almost everything in the game w/ exception to Hurri, A6M, and Niki. It is IMO one of the best overall fighters in the game. It definately could hang with pretty much every plane in the MA. It could turnfight the best of Spit pilots. If could do reversals on 51's, 190's, 47's, and 109's that try to B n Z it. It has pretty good views. If you are looking for a good overall plane, try out the F6F-5. You just have to be careful not to get in the low and slow situations, but even then the F6F could sometimes come outta it. I have come in a fight about 17K and b n zoomed until I knew I had the speed to go in there and I come out with 10 kills or whatever. Once in a while that happens, most of the time I get screwed by a niki or LA7 that just comes along and gets on my 6. But this is getting kinda long, so I will stop writing.
to all!

I fly everything, and rotate a bit each tour. In addition, we have the monthly "squad rides", this month those are the Grummans and Lavochkins.
This month I've been primarily flying the following:
Bf 109G-10
Bf 109F-4
P-51D
La-5/La7
I have flown these to a lesser degree;
Bf 110G-2
F4F-4
FM-2
A6M2
A6M5b
C.205
F6F-5
Fw 190D-9
Ki-61

SpitIX
P-47D-30
Yak-9U

Bf 109G-6
P-40E
A-20G
SBD-5
Boston III
Like I said, I fly everything.

I think folks pick planes that sorta suit their personalities.
Personally, I fly the P-51D almost exclusively, provided I'm not taking off from a capped field. I'm a hunter rather than a brawler so I like its legs; with just 75% fuel I can fly for a good long time, allowing me to pick my fights and hang out over furballs. I like its speed; it allows me to run down most planes or get the heck outta Dodge if things start to get too ugly. I like it's E-retention; it allows me to stay above a fight for a longer time and pick out targets. I like it's high speed manueverability; I love killing stallfighters who forget that over 300/350 I can prolly out turn them. Yes, the 6-50s are a bit anemic compared to some, but I'm a fairly decent shot and the ammo load allows me to rack up nice strings of kills.
On defense, I LOVE the spit, but often fly the Niki. Awesome guns and a decent kite.
For jabo, the F4uC. Very cool attack plane.
-
Fly the same plane 99% of the time? Heck, I rarely fly the same plane two sorties in a row. :)
Seriously, I switch back and forth between different planes a lot. If I don't have a plan, I just sort of randomly pick whatever I feel like at the time and go for it. It means I suck equally in the entire planeset instead of being really good at one and REALLY bad at all the others, but I don't mind.
I have the most kills in the Bf 109F-4 (22), the FM2 (19), the B-26 (15 thanks to the bail bug in 1.10p0, got 10 kills from an enemy B-26 formation I shot up), and the F6F-5 (10). But I've got air-to-air kills in about 15 other types.
I gravitate toward the Bf 109F-4, which has always been my favorite since my GEnie AW days; the F6F-5, which I'm starting to discover is a VERY nice ride; and the FM2, which is a handy little furballer. But I'll fly most anything. The only planes I stay away from are the 190s--nothing against them, but I just can't seem to figure out how to be effective in them. I wish I could.
173 kills, 129 deaths this tour--I'm back into AH hardcore. :)

bf 109 is my first love. Hard to explain why but this plane flys and fights the way I think.

I fly too many different AC.. and never get proficient in any one of em...
Sticking to one plane for an extended period is good for your skillz, but kinda booring

I think people that only fly one type of plane or only fly the planes of one real life country are weirdos . But that's just my opinion .

What's the difference between someone that chooses to fly only one plane and someone that flies multiple planes? It's not like the one that flies different planes is a better pilot than the one that only flies one plane exclusively. It's a matter of taste and hat off to them, whether they fly one plane or 50 planes.

I also fly a lot of different planes, bombers and fighters but when I'm not flying escort for my bomber squad I really enjoy flying base defense and for that there is (IMHO) only one plane, the La-5. Get an La-5 about 10k over a soon to be attacked field and wait for the cons to come rolling in. It dives nicely, retains a bunch of E, and can out turn everything except maybe a Spit V (another favorite) or another La-5. (although f6fs have been known to give me a bad day also) It won't catch a stang so don't bother, instead wait for him to come back. Nothing is more fun than killing a N1k in a little La-5, and rewarding about 7 perks.
Finally, I don't fly La-7s or N1ks, there a bit too challenging for me.

I like to fly and drive 'em all, and sometimes have made it a point to do every airplane and ground vehicle until I have at least 1 kill in each for the tour. Helps me understand their strengths and weaknesses, although you'd never know it by my scores.
Although, over time I do tend to favor the La-7, F4U-D, P-47D, YakU and T, and Zeke -- nice blend of b&z and turn and burn.

When not flying with my squad my mood dictates my ride.
When flying with my squad I fly this:

I fly only the best HO planes.

Oops... Double post
-
I like flying a bit of everything. I do think that the key to becoming a better pilot is learning the strengths and weaknesses of certain rides so I tend to fly things in batches. Start of this tour I flew the 205 for a week or so, then the Spit IX and Seafire then I got bored so now you will find me in the Tempest for 90% of offensive ops and the spitIX/LA7 for defence work (which I hate).
I think the P51b, Spit mkI/V and KI61 are next on the list for me.. maybe another week away though.

I try to fly them all.
I feel its better to be proficient in many aircraft than an ace in only one or two.
I usually pick out a "plane(s) of the tour" that I'll fly maybe 60% of the time. I'll fly whatever I have a sudden like for. The last five tours I believe it went: 205, 109, 190, Hurricane/Emil (BoB), and now to the F4U-1C and 1D.
My main buff ride pre-1.10 was the B26. Now I'm taking a liking to the Boston.
My stats show a few kills in just about every plane and I like it that way. Every plane but the N1k2. I can't stand that thing... I *still* feel dirty for flying it that one night back in tour 7 :-D.
