Title: use of map.and planes

i was daydreaming today about AH and its big map..and what i was thinking was how difficult would it be to have different combat theaters represented on the same map.. for example say 10 fields in the middle of a desert section only being able to use hurricanes ..202s.. p40s.. and aroung the islands only beable to use navy planes.. do you think this would encourage more or less furballing, fairer, more realistic encounters..

i know some one will say go to the CT .. but when i'm online CT numbers are less than 10..which is not much fun..:)

your thoughts would be welcome..:)

I think... terrain textures present an issue here...  only so many different tiles can be used or the system requirements take a hit...

Also... how would a team reset?  If you lost all your desert... and all your euro... would you want to be stuck in a bloo plane?

Skurj is right... but it's not so much of a system limitation, it's like this: for every solid terrain tile, you need (at least) eight transitional tiles for every other terrain type. So if you add just one more texture to a 5-texture set, you need to create about 48 (forgive my math) new tiles.

I think it would be kinda cool to have four of the old maps (256 size) combined into one great big 512 map...

Hey Dux, I'd heard the system limitation comes from the amount of texture memory required to store these textures..  
but thats an 'I heard' +)

...and you very well may be right, Skurj. Either way, I don't think it's something HTC is going to look into (with the current coding anyway... who knows what AH 2.0 will bring)

i was thinking more along the lines of only allowing certain planes at certain fields so any furballing would contain similar type aircraft..

but i see where you are going with your thoughts and its quite interesting..
