Heya,
I just read this on the M-18 Hellcat tanks destroyer.
Used by tank destroyer battalions in Europe. It was intended to be used in an ambush roll with its quick speed.
It first saw action in the Summer of 1944 in Europe. One unit to use it quite effectively was the 630th Tank Destroyer Battalion in July 1944 reported destroying 53 Panthers & Tigers and 15 self propelled guns with only a loss of 17 of their M18s.
Could penetrate 101 mm. Muzzle velocity 2,600 ft/sec.
It was a 76MM cannon.
How does this rate with the German 75mm and 88mm. As well as the Russian T-34??

Yes, the guns v armour site has lots of data.
In a nutshell, there were three different German 75mm guns (one of which had two barrel lengths) and two different 88mm, all of which had different ballistics. Then there were different ammo types available for some of them, which also affected performance. Velocity of the slowest 75mm was 1260 fps, of the fastest was 3,070 fps, whereas the 88mm varied between 2,660 fps to 3,340 fps.
The US 76 also had different ammo types - it could be had with tungsten-cored HVAP which scooted out at 3,400 fps.

M18 Hellcats 76L54 (790m/s) gun was about equal in performance to german 75L48 gun (760m/s). (which you have in PzKpfw IVh in AH)
In close fight it could kill Panther even frontally, but over ca. 700meters (or yards) it was ineffective. In contrary Panthers 75L70 gun (925m/s) could clearly penetrate front armor of m-18 at any given combat range(that really doesnt tell much since M-18 wasnt designed armor in mind).
Muzzle velocities are for normal AP.
