Title: Big Week Registration (heads up)
Post by: Nash on November 07, 2001, 02:55:00 PM
Just letting you all know that registration will be open sometime tomorrow (Thursday). Take a look at the list below and try to coordinate your choice with your squadmates.

Registration for this event is a two part process. Sign-up and then confirmation. Just signing up doesn't mean that you'll be given a spot; you'll be asked to confirm it via email in a couple of weeks. Only after confirming it will you be guaranteed a spot.

Pre-registration is mandatory - there will be no walk-ons. There is limited room, so get there quick.

Is there any web page info on what "BIGWEEK" is ? Rules ? Requirements ?

Is it a Scenario or a TOD ?

How many in each group ? How many total ?

The more info the better.

It's ten "pilots" in each group if I take the 10 of 10 at the end of each flight the right way.

lol Pugg, that first frame was pretty brutal.     :D I still hate those F6F things.

Hope to see you and the Brauncos in this one pal.

Unfortunately, I'm on the design team for 'Big Week', so I'm grounded and will be co-organiser with Nash.

I researched the units, targets etc and devised the scoring system, so if there are any whin...err complaints, everyone should know who to 'consult'.     :)   :D

Wotan - I'm stealing Nash's thunder a bit, but the answer is both.

Why is the schedule in such conflict with NFL football? That's just un-American. I'd like to participate, but the non-computer geek half of me won't allow it.

And as an added bonus, my squad is an actuall player :)

The reason for the "no walkons" rule is mostly because we usually don't have room for any at the beginning. There's a limit to how many people can be in the arena at one time, and in "Hostile Shores", we had to ask all of our walkons to leave so that the registered players could get into the arena. All in all, we just think that if we're going to put this much time into planning this scenario for you guys, the least you can do is get organized and pre-register. It makes it much easier to run a scenario when everyone pre-registers, without walkons. Our previous scenarios have always been heavily populated on the first frame, then the numbers taper down after that. When this happened, we would start using walkons in the later frames. With the new format of holding the event on only two days, we're hoping to reduce the amount of no-shows, so that walkons are not needed in the last two frames.

Rotor, at least you have the chance to register.  I got Aces High after Hostile Shores was filled up.  I fortunately was able to walk-on in the 4th frame, but got stuck in a 190 which I hadn't ever flown before.  lol.  I got wasted pretty hard.

Just register for it.  If something comes up and you can't make a frame, oh well, you can't predict the future.   :)

i dont know if this is clear but its not just a squad event.

single players can sign up and will be assigned flights.

so, if you sign up, you won't miss out  :)

I come from a different school of thought.  If I register I am expected to be there.  My team is counting on me to get killed before they do  :).

Seriously, tho, question time, cant the arena be setup to hold a certain amount of numbers higher than what the event is designed for?  I.e. you design an event for 200 participants, make the arena hold 250.  That way you will be covered in case of noshows, and those whose life cannot be planned more than an hour in advance can show up if life allows it.  Just a thought.

I think arena limits are imposed by the devs, not by the CM team.  could be wrong though.

and Rotor, in that case, if ya register, real life be damned!   :D  My lady friend knows that Friday night is Squad Night.  That's why we're going to a movie tonight instead of tomorrow night.   :)  I've missed two frames of the TODs.  First one I had surgery that morning and was drugged out on pain killers (not to mention I couldn't drive for 7 days, so that meant no rudders for 7 days either) and the second one I had plans to be outta town for several years in advance (Miami-FSU game).  So I'm from the same mold as you are in the respect of I'm showing up if I said I was.

Yes Rotor, that is possible to plan it that way. But we decided that the pre-registration route was the best way for us to handle things. We know it could be handled otherwise, but for us, this is what works best.

Jordi search 20-25 FEB. 1944 BIG WEEK. It seems this scenario focussed around US/Germany buff/buff interception.

Theres a 100 buffs with 60 escorts going to bomb targets in Europe.

There are 50 sturmbocks(a8s) 20 109g6s and 30 190a5s.

Theres no need for target information and specifics at this point. All you need to know is what do you wanna die in........ :)

For Hostile Shores there was very little stragic information passed through the ranks. I hope this is repeated here as well.

Register and choose the plane you want. Then someone will tell you where when and how.

Which LW gruppes are carrying the extra cannon gondolas?  ;)

depends on what alt we expect to see them buffs. even the 109g6 is outperformed at 25k.

an a5 and an a8 lay down at 23k. Short of a headon attack there will only be 1 pass. above 23k a a8 cant zoom climb to reverse and will likely have to flat turn or lo yo yo to reposition. by then the escort will be all over ya and the buffs speed at that alt would make a ded 6 attack suicidal.

So the answer would be 190a8 carry 30mm I would say 190a5 2x 20mm and 109g6 no gondolas.

But i'm guessing. Gonna be great fun  :)

Maybe I can?

Large cannons, muzzle flashes, loud bangs, torn metal, dashing Butcher birds, compressing Allied planes, falling 17 carcasses, big BOOMS, lotsa Teutonic giggling, torrent of ubb after-action whines.

ooops!! I almost forgot this,

  :D

ok.

Glasses this is Feb 44 - before the Jagdwaffe was depleted.  They still could outnumber Allied fighters over Germany.

banana,

Thank you for the explanation of Why no walkons.  That makes perfectly good sence.

Sometimes, I just cant committe the time to an event, depending on when it falls.  So I dont register.  If things change last minute, I pop in to see if they need pilots.

Several times Iv ended up helping the event team and grabbing a last minute flight.

I recomend a reminder a few days before the event, if you have open slots.  :D
