Been fishing recently in other forums, caught a few as well with my tank.
Seriously though, I haven't quite finished it yet, still have inside to texture, and little details like MG's to put on, but I would like some useful comments on the tank, Texture, etc so that I can make it really good.
Keep in mind its a low poly model and my aim was to make something comparable to whats in AH.
thx :)

sorry forgot Picture :D

Looks pretty Good!...One of these days Ill start posting my models.
You need to add some dirt, and rust and just in general wear and tear.
Im in school right now, and my classmates just critiqued your model, My class is advanced 3D textures...
-
I love it, if its got different guns than any tanks now i'd be happy with that right there
-
1 ?
Is the turrent moveable? if so make it look like it ;)
Im learning how to use bumpmap.. rotoscop colors transparencys and modeling... so far so good ;) (coming from a n00b in skinning/modeling)
-
zeroping yep the turret does move, gun raise etc.
Some inprovements on the texture.
Again any feedback welcome.
-
Lookin good blank, I like the all white one at the top...
-
looks great but you forgot to model the red icon on the top of it, you know the billboard who say "tigrII blahblah":p
-
If I did that you'd do this to my tank Frenchy! :D
-
:D
-
Great Winter tank
That could go in AH or WB3
ask HTC if you could empliment it to patch 3,4,5,6,etc.
who knows the luck you could have:D
-
blank,
what are you modelling with and rendering with?
-
mason22
All done in 3DS Max ver4
rendered using the standard 3ds max scanline renderer.
I am using 25 dim spotlights arranged in a dome (light multiplier set at 0.7)
This give a pretend raydiosity render (as max doesn't have raydiosity as standard,)
Also it renders very quick less than 30 seconds.
my system:
1.1ghz athon
A7V mother board
Geforce 2 GTS 64 Mb AGP - display 1
Matrox Mystique PCI - display 2
512Mb pc133 sdram
duel boot- windows XP Pro/windows Me - use windows XP pro to play AH
soundblaster Live!
Microsoft FF 2 joystick
heres how I have set up my light rig,
all lights are instanced not copied.
more lights are better but render times increase. :D
-
nice setup....could you spare that light file? :D
purty please.
-
No probs, here it is :D
Its the 25 spot lights and a stage shape (sort of a bowl to give it that gradient near the horizon)
All lights are instanced so a change to one will affect all of them.
Shadows set to map not raytraced (gives soft edges not hard)
light multiplier = 0.7
colour = white
Makes models look nice though :D
-
by the way theres a few junk objects in the file, some bits of biped, and footsteps, dont worry as there all under the stage and dont show in the rendering, just delete them.
To use file,
open up your model file, then select merge from the file menu and select the light rig file, select all in the popup box and ok it.
render your piccy.
have fun :D
To make it even better put another ring of lights under the stage to uplight the sceen a bit, and make them grey or brown to emulate light reflected off the ground. :)

Hey Blank, I decided since everyone is a Tank mood, Id model my own. Any Good tips on doing Treads?
-
Hi Nefarious :D
sorry for not replying sooner been away on surfing holiday.
mmm treads...
I dont really know how to make some good ones but this it what I did:
in photoshop
1,Drew a couple of links for the track and used the clone stamp to make it longer
2, in used the alpha to cut holes in the links so you can see trough them
in Max
1, Using the line tool i made a shape around the wheels.
2, I extuded the shape
3, added Unwrap uvw mapping co-ordinated to the track shape and added the texture
render and tracks have wholes through due to alpha cutting.
I haven't tried but I see no reason why you couldn't animate the texture map on the tracks to make them look like they move.
Also have a close look at the tracks in operation flashpoint.
-
here is my Tiger I, not textured...
The treads are actually booleaned right now Im thinking about changing it.
-
pretty cool :D
you should start a thread like I did so everyone can watch it change as you work on it more.
tracks are pretty much the same as mine except I used planes so had to force 2 sided on them.
how many polys buy the way?
working on an idea for the tracks.
I look forward to the textured version. :)
-
I havnt checked poly count but its probably pretty high...
-
VERY NICE!!  Esecially the winter tank!
Heres some tank models I made in a 2 player tank game I'm making... Textures stink though, I made them in MSPaint! lol
Frame rate & matrix texture allso stinks.. as u can see in the pic I get a frame rate of bout 45 and I havent even added shooting, shooting collision, or sounds yet...
