Title: Malta Falls: Axis Victory
Post by: Buzzbait on July 19, 2002, 12:56:06 AM
Bulletin Rome:

The Commando Supremo announced today the victorious forces of Italia and its allies have taken the British Fortress of Malta.

Now Rommel will receive his troops and supplies unhindered by air attacks on his convoys.

The Mediterranean is an Axis Lake!  El Alamein and Egypt will fall, and the oil fields of the Middle East will supply all the needs of Italian and German industry.

And German Forces will advance from the Middle East through the Caucasus to take the Soviet Armies in the flank.

Malta belongs to the Berlin-Rome Axis![/I]

With the commencement of a daring operation code-named "DJ111", elite commandos of the German expeditionary forces have broken through the defense lines and gained foothold on the southern shore of Malta at 9:30 AM. This landing was the beginning of what would become a 22 hour battle for the sovereign control of Malta.

Operation DJ11 started at 3:00 AM, states our military sources, when a highly stealthful attempt to land 8 thousand troops of elite German commandos was launched from the south of Malta island. "It took two weeks to create a diversion that was big enough to finally open up a space in British naval defenses, but it sure paid off" said one military official who wished his name was not disclosed.

The British stationed at Malta, not knowing of this fact, had launched its normal morning patrols to north of the island. It was no doubt they were compelled by the large formation of fighters and bombers which took off from Sicily. "We estimate the British had sent up about 80% of their fighter force to face us at the north, but of course, this was a decoy!" exclaimed a fighter pilot known as "Odee".

Around 8:30 AM, the British fighters were engaging Italian and German fighter forces when the units assigned to "OP:DJ111" were approaching approximately 30 miles south of Malta.

At 9:30 AM, the 8 thousand troops including 52 tanks and 200 artillery weapons landed on the southern shores of Malta. "It was so quiet I couldn't believe it. I was pretty sure we'd meet horrible resistance, but when we set foot on the beach, there were only children who looked at us with eyes opened wide!" said a soldier who participated in the Malta landing.

It was a definate surprise attack as the port of Birzebbuga was quickly fell under the control of our German troops. However, the British were then informed of an attack and hastily put up defense lines, which, despite the inferior numbers, turned out to be a sturdy one. Although the British have put up bold attempts to drive the German troops south, the second wave of invasion forces consisting of Italian soldiers quickly landed on Malta and set out for Valletta, the capital city of Malta, assisted by our mechanized units.

7:30 PM, Valletta was captured and the British defense lines were isolated to the western side of the main Island.

"We weren't informed of the progress of the landing operations, but suddenly, at one moment, all the Tommies hastily extended away and retreated towards the island. That's when I knew our troops have successfully landed." said an ace pilot known as 'eskimo', who participated in the large scale decoy operations performed north of Malta.

By 8:00 PM the British forces were driven west to Mdina and Mosta. Most tactical positions were long occupied by the Axis forces, and the British fighters who have returned to the defense of Malta found themselves no where to land, as major airfield north of Zebbug was captured. As they hastily crowded around the only operational airfield left, the 'decoy' forces of the LuftWaffe - freshly armed and fueld - arrived on the scene. Soon, Malta was a raging battle field both on land and in the air.

Next day, elite paratroopers have landed at Buggibba, and this was enough for the British commanders to announce surrender at 7:30 AM. Malta is now under the control of the Axis forces, and Il Duce of Italy announced "the Mediterranean is once again 'mare nostrum'!"

A great salute to our brave armed forces of Germany!

Excellent reporting!  Hilarious photojournalism, too!  That was one of the best write-ups I've ever seen on this board.  Your coverage of the upcoming Kuriel campaign should be very interesting reading!

The hurri in that pic has to be me, I was in room at that time and only 1 crazy enough to fly the hurri2d in a dogfight :D

That was a hard battle, we held off for a pretty long time concidering we were being vulched, bombarded from shore, nme fighters everywhere, nme bases surrounding us, so you couldnt go 2 feet out the airfeild without getting hit by AA guns, and no C47's/M3's for troops or supplies!

I added about 20 deaths and 4 kills to my score that day, I must be improving ! :D

But what the Germans had not realised is that the main allied Commanders & Generals had left the island the day before it was surrendured, saying "We Shall Return"...
The allies are now working on a top secret plan to recapture malta, with the order of 200 Gloster Gladiators, 50 HurricaneI's, 2 Spitfires, & 300 B-25's & B-24's.  However there is a great delay in the order of Gladiators and B25/24's promised by General Pyro after the successfull attack in Burma, and the attack will have to be postponed untill their arrival.  Untill then they have decided to focus on Japan, striking at the mainland with the cooperation of Russian forces.
