Title: Bomb Arming Distance??
Post by: MrLars on July 21, 2002, 05:02:35 AM
So like...I drop a 1000lb bomb on a panzer at 650 yards and score a direct hit, but the bomb doesn't explode. I thought the bombs armed after 1000ft, am I wrong?

Have film.

I think this was introduced to stop people car bombing but it also stops low alt drops. What we really need is a fuse delay dot command or have a selection of bombs with preset fuses in the hangar (the RAF generally used 11 sec fuses) I did make a suggestion for this in the 'gameplay feddback/issues' forum here (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50949)

i usually drop at d900 to d500 and have no porblems with my eggs exploding.  Though I've never seen a hit sprite from an egg I've dropped.... (riccochet? +)

3 feet per yard

1000 feet = 333 yards

it depends on your speed at the time you drop. Not so much on altitude

If you are above the minimum distance then speed is irrelevant.. even if dropping straight down.  If you are below the minimum distance then speed and AoA are going to matter.

My conclusion is that it must be some sort of bug. I'll post in the Bug Forum.

Actually, it should be 500ft. There's a little propeller type arming device on each bomb, and it has to make so many revolutions before the egg is armed. However, if you drop below 333yds (1k) you may find it hard to avoid the terrain (terrain is still undefeated).

that would be dependant upon the fuze setting. They were set according to the battle directives set by the HQ's.

The minimum alt for eggs in AH is 500ft, did a few tests when I first started AH after I accidently pickled an egg while taxiing to the runway.

akak its not 500ft...

i can drop an egg from below 500ft it will still go off +)

the egg has to TRAVEL 1000ft before it hits the gound...  before it will detonate.  So if u toss it from below 500ft it may well travel 1000+ft and detonate.

alt has nothing to do with it.. just distance travelled by the egg...

What makes you think that the bomb didn't explode?  Because you didn't see a crater?  If it was a direct hit, then there would be no crater.

Then gamers would simply launch a bomber, drop their load as soon as wheels up, to kill field vulchers or goons dropping on the town.  Won't happen.

I prefer it the way it is.

Never seen a tank take a direct hit from a 1k bomb then still need rockets to kill. Plus there was no audible blast from the bomb.

Since I droped from apx. 2000ft, the bomb should have armed, must have been either a bug in the Ndisles arena settings or a lost packet or two but my connect very rarely looses packets, from what I can see anyhow. Did HT include duds in v1.10? :D

maybe a 3 min delay with a message that says 'your bombs are now live' at the end of it?
