Title: CH Fighterstick spikes
Post by: Fariz on July 21, 2002, 04:18:34 PM
Hi all,

Got a set of CH products, and extremely disappointed. Had problem with pedals, fixed it, now got joystick spiking badly. It is CH Fighterstick USB, new, only 6 days in use, and spiking along x and y already. Any suggestions?

Fariz,

Have you calibrated the stick?   If that doesn't help, I would suggest sending them back to CH.

I have an old gameport Combat stick that's 7 years old and it still works like brand new.   I've since replaced everything with USB versions and have no problems yet.

Spiking could also be another problem with your system, not just the stick...but CH is pretty good about exchanging stuff from what I hear.  Might want to try a new stick and see.

You might also consider deleting and reinstalling everything.

Good luck......

I do not know, may be what I get is normal for CH products? This is what I get

1) Rudder
2) Throttle
3) Roll
4) Pitch.

It is only about week of my using it, were no spikes at day 1, at least very minor ones.

I kept all controls on fixed position, did not moved during taking this picture.

Please let me know if you get a simular spikes with your CH products.

Thanks,

Lines arew mostly flat here Fariz (CH USB Setup), Did you try setting up a CH Joystick Device and calibrating it in the CHCtlMgr (not in windoze calibration mode). That's how I get mine working.

Fariz do you know that pitch roll are also controlled by the the 2 "rotary thingies" (I have a ch fighter stick) on the bottom and right of the stick itself. Center these and recalibrate. More the likely thats why the "cross" on the image you provided is off center.

Also get the newest version of cntrl manager from the ch web site and install it. Follow the directions. Use the ch delete program and unistall all ch stuff.

I have ch pro ped, chh pro throttle, ch fighterstick and am quite happy with them.

Once you install the cntrl manager calibrate your stick in it.

I have latest version of CH control manager, calibrated with it, and with AH.

I centered wheels. They joystick cross is not centered because I moved it a bit, to the position where the spikes are more often.

I gonna try to check stick on other computer to see, if the problem is somehow connected with my computer.

Fariz, are you plugged directly into the USB ports on your PC, or are you plugged into a USB hub? If you're plugged into a USB hub I would recommend trying to plug directly into the ports on the back on your pc and see if that helps. I had a situation similar to yours where the USB hub was the problem.

Good luck!

Beemer has the exact same set-up as you Fariz, same problem.

Best guess is directx 8.1 is screwing it up.  Having sliders all the way up and deadband all the way down helps but doesn't eliminate the problem.

Thanks :) Hope I sort it out, hardly ever had anything so frustrating before.

I installed it into USB port, but I am almost sure it is USB problems. I got my second computer, same OS, same version of drivers, same version of AH, and got neglectable spikes. In contrast on my main computer spiking is growing, and soon it will be unplayable. I am going to buy a separate USB host controller card, and try to install it to check if USB is a problem. If it will not work, will get myself Windows XP, and install all drivers etc. under it. One of 2 shall get this problem, I hope.

Nope, I tried it with both 8.1 and 8.0a, same result. Even tried it with developers debug version of DirectX, seems problem is not with DirectX.

Do you know if Beemer tried a different USB card to fix this problem? Can you contact him and ask this question? Will greatly apreciate a help with it, thanks.

What operating system and Motherboard chipset are you using?  If you are using Win98 and a Via chipset, I would suspect the USB ports.  I had bad USB problems with Win98 and a Via chipset that I could not eliminate until I bought a separate four-port USB card from Belkin.  You might check out http://www.usbman.com for information about USB problems.

VIA and Win98. Gonna buy a USB host card tomorrow (if will find any here). Almost sure it is USB, if it is not, then will try other things.

Have you tried the VIA USB filter patch for Win98?

I tried new USB port, changed all drives, installed Windows XP -- nothing worked. I do not know what is the reason, but problem is increasing, and it is already hardly playable.

Go HERE (http://www.usb.org/usbready.exe) and download the USBReady utility, use it to test your serial ports.

If they test OK then go HERE (http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm#DX Tweak 2) to get DXTweak and Poswdm utilitys.

Use DXTweak to clear the controller data in your registry, reinstall the stick and use Poswdm to test for stick malfunctioning.

At this point I would be tempted to try plugging the devices into a different computer and see what happens. Maybe it's an incompatibility with your motherboard?

Fariz i have the same setup as you. I have ch pro pedals, throttle and combatstick all usb.
Did u create a map using the control manager? or do you map fuctions seperately through AH?
From your screen shots u posted it is a calibration issue you are enduring.
My set up works great and never had a problem I used win98 before then switched to XP and still works fine.
If you would like i can e mail to you the map i use for my set up.
On a side note you must activate your current map through the ch manager before you enter AH, once in AH calibrate your setup and it should work fine.
Contact me in AH and we will sort it out on a private channel if you like.
:D

Fariz, I've owned 2 CH Fightersticks and they both ended up spiking just like yours. The problem was hardware.

Admittedly this was not the case after just 6 days though.

I now use a Cougar but this isn't perfect either . Oh the joy ;)
