Title: Battlefield 1942 demo is out
Post by: Octavius on July 23, 2002, 02:11:41 PM
...and its pretty darn good!

It is a BIT arcadish from what they offer, but the fun factor is up there.  Its a single player (multi player arena with AI) Tobruk arena.

There are 5 characters you can spawn as :  Scout, Assault, Anti-tank, Medic, or Engineer.  Several vehicles can be found throughout the map or at your nationality's "base."  Panzer IVs, Tigers, Hummel or Wespe (I cant remember the name.. its a self-propelled artillery), and Allies have a Sherman tank with a flex-.50 cal that tears toejam up.  The tanking was fun.  Its not too quake-ish as it matters where you hit the tank to destroy it.  Panzer IVs and Tigers are extremely vulnerable in the back where the fuel tanks are located.  They go boom very nice.  Grenades worked well for me against the self-propelled arty.  I tossed two on top and it set fire.. eventually exploding.

There aren't any aircraft involved in this demo and I dont know how much this will affect the gameplay later on.. but overall, its pretty fun.

Here's me posing as an Allied scout (included:  sniper rifle, grenades, .45, binocs, and combat knife)

Demo'sa re usually only downloadable on PC's goofuS :).  Fileplanet has it.  I got it a few dasy ago and I must say it's very arcadish, but think of the mods that will come out of it.  Imagine a new Day of Defeat :D.  The possibilities are limitless and those AI players just dont compete with real people.  The class selectionsa re CHEESY too.
