this theatre will need numbers on both sides to work.
I know of an old online game from long ago that automatically balanced the sides as players logged in, sending each new person that logged on to opposite sides.
they also had a preference selector that allowed the player to be on the side they wanted if numbers were balanced already

If i entered and got automatically to LW i would just change my country back to Allies. I wouldn't fly for no good steeeeking LW.:p

Im interested to know how Squadrons will work in there. If it is a case of balancing numbers borne on what time you enter the game, id hazard to guess a few Squadrons will remain in the MA where their group collaboration would be ideally suited to the MT.

if i had to fly spits and peeee51s I would log out

No need for autoswitch. Just make it so the missions for either side don't start unless the numbers ratio is within a certain tolerance. If there is an imbalance, people will get sick of waiting around to fly and they will switch. Or they might log. Hopefully the guys on the side with more numbers will log. :)

I think the ranks and awards should be country based... with merits from participation with one country not affecting rank with the other.
I also think people should be allowed to chose where they want to play.
Of course, this will be an obstacle that HTC has to overcome... country numbers asside... how do you get even distribution of what people want to do vs what the mission/numbers allow them to do?
Hehehe... I could easily come up with 100 questions on this new arena. That's alot of stuff for HTC to be considering.

Airbatic, err Fester, cita, err whateverbria Adams... do you always answer your own posts in differnet names?
anyhow, if there is automatic side switching, I will never use the arena. I will be loggin in to play allies or not at all.
We have side switching for TODs, but you do so with your whole squadron and the entire event.
If I wanted to work on the rank and awards of a persona in an allied squad, I wouldn't want to log in to find myself axis all the sudden having to fight against my squad that all got in before me.
Side balancing will have to be done by the players themselves. Let the leather panty club figure out how to survive on their own.

While I understand the sentiment, experience in the CT indicates that you're going to get very bored, and the new arena won't last very long, if too many people have this attitide.

Rotate missions like the maps do, maybe 4 mission
Auto select country unless a prefrence is given
ie: Red/axis/LW ( ) vs Blue/allies/RAF ( ) no pref ( )
have auto select follow prefs unless 1 side is out # by
25% or auto select missions according to how many are on each side
Auto select rides unless Pref is given ie:
fighter ( ) Buff ( ) no pref ( )
Have new missions start 1 min after the last one ended
If you log on anytime during a mission you can still up
and try and catch up to mission (I HATE LOBBY TIME)
5 min to land before mission ended
No host disconnects for reset, just load new mission

I think that this arena will not be as barren as the CT is. The CT is basically just an MA with a limited plane set. There are no real objectives and nothing really gained for what you do in it.
I am hopeful that this new arena will also have improved strat to go along with it, and something that has a noticable effect on equipment or supplies. If the enemy still has unlimited supplies of everything, even if you destroy their entire factory infrastructure, then this arena will suffer from the same end of mission feeling you get in the MA.
"Why did we bother? The enemy will be back to full strength before we even have a chance to reap the benefits of all the hard work we did going on that 45 minute mission"

Midnight, I've thought about that too. However, the possilities are endless on how to "move the front" or win the war. It won't necessarily be a capture the flag arena. Also, it may not be instantly clear upon landing even a highly successful mission what it's affect on the enemy was. It's also possible there won't be any affect on the enemy. Remember, that this arena promises to be something of a role-playing experience, where you build a carreer based on your success in the air.
While I hope you will be able to see the front move and to win the war by doing well, it might not work that way (at first, or ever...we just don't know yet). It may be all about immersion and building your career, as opposed to stragety and gameplay. Many boxed sims go this route, where missions are scripted, maybe with some branching going on depending on success or failure of key missions. It may or may not have a true dynamic campaign engine built in. I suspect those are some of the questions HTC is even now wrestling with.
