my personal favorite:
DeWitt bought Bush Exploration outright. Bush was named Spectrum 7's CEO, at $75,000 a year, and received 1.1 million shares in the company's stock, a practice many in Congress now want outlawed.
LOL!
This author isn't trying to twist anything to make it sound worse... nope... not him... purely subjective.

Hope all the Bush supporters have enjoyed the last two years . It sure has cost me

Maybe someone should appoint a Special Prosecutor, and spend seven years and $70 million digging up Bush's skeletons....might be interesting reading in the checkout line.
-
Yeah, lets get that great protector of the masses, that fat-assed drunken sot Ted Kennedy and that still-wet Hillary Clinton to check into Bush's past financial dealings. I feel safer already

You mean he lived off Daddy and Friends' money? A politician? Really?
This is different than democratic politicians how exactly? Oh I know, Ted Kennedy and Al Gore busted their butts to earn daddy's money, they didn't just sit around and accept it.
Airspro if you somehow found out how to operate a web browser then you cannot be so simpleminded to think all those tech companies were actually making money before Jan 2001, then suddenly ran into trouble.

:::chuckles::: Someone give Fatty a midol, he's getting ornery!

It NEVER fails to amaze me how folks seem to pen economic problems or success w/current Admin's. These companies that are in such hot water where making these bad decisions sometime BEFORE Bush ever gained office. .
If you think otherwise I'm w/Fatty on this.

It's Monicas sisters fault.

Sorry, I mis-read the title to this thread. I thought it said "The President's New Bitc..." I mean, "Witch".
I read all through that article and didn't see one reference to the President hanging with a smartly-dressed buxom intern. I then came back and realized my error. :P
Please, continue on your way. There's nothing more for you to see here.

Anyone who thought the market was a safe investment, especially with the inflated P/E ratios of every company traded, should have their heads examined.
And to blame ANY president, much less Bush, just shows your ignorance.

So set me stright then , most of you are happy now that the Dems are out and the markets down , but you weren't happy with the market way up and Dem in the White House .
Gee I was happy with more work and more money . But if less work and less money make YOU all happy , enjoy it you all seemed to want it so bad :)

Yes Airspro...please let's get Jimmy Carter back in the White House for those great Economic times.
That is THE most flawed logic I have read in a long time.

Sorry airspro.. I think you forgot just exactly when it was the market started to "crash". I also believe you have no real idea why it happened.

Are you miss cleo?
How do you do that exactly if you can't see the future???
I tend to agree with you on the first part though :)

any idea when the rupublican party will become responsible for the state of the economy ?
since they are in charge and all. just a date when they will not blame clinton? or has a craped out economy that seems to go in hand with a repub president always been clintons fault?
-
Very seldom is any political party responsible for the economy...it takes a huge policy change to alter the business cycle.
Ever give a thought to the working men and women as well as the businesses or idea mills throughout our country which contribute to our economy on a daily basis? Could world markets have an influence? And don't tell me that we effect the world to an extent that would make a difference....again, very seldom will policy effect our economy or the world markets.
The only thing politicians do with an economy is take credit for a good one or blame others for it's demise...the truth is, neither have much to do with our economy....anyone who thinks they do are kidding themselves.
The key to understanding our economy is very simple...Business Cycle.
It's as old as dirt....all good things must find their end...when they do, they decline, which in turn presents opportunities for those with the means to take advantage.
Neither Bush nor Clinton are relative to our economy....now being relative to the quality of leadership overall, that is another thread altogether.

Rude... You just openly insulted 90% of the media lemmings in the U.S.A! You should be ashamed!!

Just a little historical background since we were getting technical about definitions yesterday,
From the Motley Fool:
"Recession" is defined as a decline in real gross domestic product for two consecutive quarters.
From US Government:
Gross domestic product Qtr statistics: ($1,000.000,000)
91 IQ: 5,886.3 91 IIQ 5,962.0 91 IIIQ 6,015.9 91 IVQ 6,080.7 92 IQ: 6,183.6 92 IIQ 6,276.6 92 IIIQ 6,345.8 92 IVQ 6,469.8
93 IQ: 6,521.6 93 IIQ 6,596.7
From Holden McGroin:
So it appears that there was not a 'decline in real gross domestic product for two consecutive quarters' therefore, the US economy was decreasing its rate of growth rather than shrinking its GDP. Just another definition of 'is' from Willie, and willing accomplices.
Clinton inherited a growing economy.
So... while the economic cycle can be influenced by our government, it is, thank god, not directly tied to the resident at 1600 Penn Ave.
Voting only with your pocket rather than your brain is probably not in the best interests of you, the country, or the world.
-
So 9/11 had nothing to do with the current state of the economy then?
-
You'll note that the majority of the leading economic indicators presently show a growth economy. The major indicator that is contrary is the stock market.
9/11 obviously did have an effect, but an over priced stock market, (P/E ratios at near all time highs), poor power market deregulation laws in Calif, (they deregulated wholesale, but not retail and wrote loopholes to be exploited), the realization of the "tulip ecconomy" of the internet sector, (read your dutch history), these all happened at near the same time, and exerted a great driving force to the downturn.
Of course if you were heavily invested in UAL, 9/11 was a biggy.
The stock dump would have happened regardless of Osama.
-
Boy...I'm gonna hate econimcis next year...Christ this is getting to be confusing. The only thing I ever saw from politics was a huge pissing contest about which party did what and how the other is to blame for everything.
But since I'm not old enough to vote yet...I have no room to speak. Perhaps one day I'll get it...but right now...let the pissing contest continue...

Toad
haven't you heard?
GWB setup 9/11 so he'd have something to blame the crash on, which was really caused by his tax cuts and $300/600 rebate checks.
Yes, the WJC ("aren't you better off then you were 4/8 years ago" - now pls left me alone while this fat arse services me in the oral office) overinflated market would have corrected but not as drastic as 9/11 allowed. The dems and the media took it from there ..................... what? don't you know EVERY CEO is a crook and a thief! Just watch the news, but no worries - big brother is looking out for us now

Anyway you cut it, Bush has brought some measure of decency and morality back to the presidency. He may not be the best, but he sure as heck knows how to rally the american people around a cause.
I might consider voting for a democrat one day, but all the decent upstanding folks are republicans, so I doubt i could find one to vote for.

texace, you nailed it on politics. However, just remember to throw in the word lemming next time.
