Title: Ta-152.. DB603 or Jumo213E?
Post by: Kweassa on July 25, 2002, 12:01:42 AM
Simple question. I've been hearing different things about a same plane.

 Did the Ta-152 have the DB603 engine, or the Jumo213E? I remember hearing that the DB603s were originally planned to be used on the Fw190D, but production problems changed the plans and the Jumo213 was planted. The DB603s were instead, used on the Ta-152.

 Now I ran across a source saying the Ta-152H used a improved Junkers engine, the Jumo213E.

 Did the Ta-152H use DB603 or Jumo213E? Or, did the Ta-152C used the DB603 and Ta-152H use Jumo213E? Or, is it the other way around?

H = Jumo
C = DB

Hi Wotan,

I think your chart is slightly inaccurate.

Here are the figures from a Focke-Wulf comparison dated 1.10.1944 (from Dietmar Hermann's "Focke-Wulf Ta 152"):

Fw 190D-9:  702 km/h @  5.7 km (Jumo 213A)
Fw 190D-12: 738 km/h @ 11.6 km (Jumo 213E)
Ta 152C-0:  753 km/h @ 10,5 km (DB603L)
Ta 152H-0:  742 km/h @  9,5 km (Jumo 213E)

The Focke-Wulf charts also show that with identical engines, there was little to choose performance-wise between the Fw 190D and the Ta 152.

Regards,

Henning (HoHun)

Henning, Wotans chart uses the 1750 PS powersetting for the D9 speed and than 686 km/h is correct.

Btw i found a nice comparison chart of TA152 and FW190D9 in Griehl/Dressel "Focke Wulf 190/TA152", which shows that the low altitude performance of the D9 was much superior to both the the TA152C and H.
Only problem is the chart has no axis! So you can just see the relative differences but no absolute numbers.
