Title: DONE with AH
Post by: HawkerMKII on July 25, 2002, 09:48:25 PM
I am a newbie at AH, about 10 months now and have seen many good changes here, but when 1.10 came out the game in my mind it went down hill. 1.09 had its crash locks and I could handle that, but this new (I call it) IN FLIGHT LOCK UP is the pits. I have tried many things to check my puter and I can find nothing wrong. When these lock ups started it was now and then, but now I cant even play for more than 10 minutes and it dont matter what I am in,,,plane, gv, boat what ever. I know this game is not an easy thing to put together and my hats off to HT, but dont put out a product until it is ready. I know HT wont care that one person will leave his game but I just cant see spending my money for something that does not work. Maybe if after the bugs are worked out I may be back and I will miss many friend that I have made here. Like i said, no one may care but I had to put in my 2 cents worth..

Its not your computer.  Many people are having this problem.  I'm personally hoping a fix is on the way.  If you've been around for 10 months then you should know that most likely there is a fix coming.

What DirectX are u running? 8.0a, b or 8.1b

Run DXdiag.exe, first screen at botton will tell you what version you have. I had many freezes then went to DirectX8.1 and it solved the problem completely.

Edit: Ok i re-read his post.  Sounded like a useless whine.
Edit2: Great counter-picture Soviet :D

Afterthought:  Check your IRQ assignments.  Make sure you're not sharing the same one with your vid/sound card.  I've also had these lockup problems as well.  They seem random at times, but sometimes I get lockups in large formations of bombers, and just tonite I got it and had to hard reboot when someone had shot off my tail and I hit the water.

I'm having in flight lock ups too, after over 2 years of completely trouble free play in terms of ctd/lockups.

I've reinstalled AH, and reformatted once, and still have the problem.  It mainly occurs when I'm viewing my kill in rear view I've noticed.

So don't despair, it isn't just you mate, stick around, they've always fixed everything else, so I'm sure this problem has its days numbered.

I am glad to inform you that I have 100% trouble free gameplay in AH, and always has.

Currently I own 3 different computers that I can play AH on and everyone of those works just fine.

My bet is that you have some issues withyour drivers.

I have the same problems since 1.10 came out, it has cost me 2x262s, dont think falling bombers have anything to do with drivers or anything on my system. Shoot up a formation pull away, screen freeze, only good thing is it hasnt given out a freebie to the nearest niki, just got to reboot. Has also happened in 109 and 110. A fix is definately coming, they wouldn't let this mess continue

Many people complain of lockups, and I certainly had that problem too. I've been experiencing screen lock-us like 2~3 times in 10 minutes when it was the worst.

I heard somebody suggest uninstall and reinstall AH, and this, cured my lockups completely. I went to the control panel, uninstalled Aces High, got rid of the whole program folder(except the sounds, sights, maps folder), cleaned the registry out, got the whole 32MB AH1102.EXE and installed it again.

I haven't heard of lockups ever since....

...there is? I haven't seen any acknowledgement from HTC that there's even probem.

HawkerI,

If you're still around, a few things I've heard people try with some success...

1) If you're usng Mitsu's sounds, completely remove them and return to the defaults.

2) Completely remove and re-install the game.

3) (this one's new to me, as of senna's post) Upgrade to Dx 8.1b.

And of course it never hurts to have all device drivers up to date.

I am glad you are having no problems whatsoever. That does not mitigate the fact that some of us now find it impossible to complete a flight/mission in Aces High at the present time. People ask honestly if it is a driver issue or IRQ sharing which is at fault. But if I have changed absolutely nothing on my machine except the version of Aces High, tis hard to see where the computer setup is to blame. I have no intention of canceling my Sub, but other than flying with my squad in TOD I will be awaiting the next patch playing "Ages of Sails II"  ;)

Vortex their rarely ever is.......they have better things to do than waste time posting about every single issue they are working to fix. They know a heck of a lot more about what needs fixin more than any of us do, trust me. The more time they spend working on it and the less time posting about  it the better.

There is no problem.  It's all in your mind.  There will not be any fixes EVER.  Our game is bug free.  It's perfect!

Nothing to see here.  Move along people!  Move along...

I have this problem from time to time, but nothing major.  Usually only get booted 1 time a night.  When I installed 1.10, I did first uninstall 1.09.  Reinstalling might be a good idea.  Don't know if this may make a difference, but it may be worth a shot.

I have been having about 1 ctd/lockup per night. As far as I can tell, nothing wrong with my computer. Only started happening since 1.10 release. Have read & heard many people with same problem since 1.10 came out. Also, vox sometimes just stops working. Haven't heard any acknowledgment from HTC there is a problem, but from past experience I feel comfortable it will be fixed if is a bug. Just a blind leap of faith.

Now what I want to know, how come ctd/lockup never happens when you are in tower or just taking off? Always seems to be after grabbed for 10 minutes, in heat of battle, couple kills in the bag or getting ready to pull the trigger.

There was a lockup bug that persisted ALL the way through AH 1.09  ...  (no tail hit the water lockup..)
Now we have a new release before the old bug was squished...

I don't blame people for being concerned...

Nothing personal, but that's a load of crap. That's just a textbook example of piss-poor business.
Title: lock ups
Post by: honda346 on July 27, 2002, 12:19:43 AM
Just thought I'd chime in and agree that the lockups started with 1.10.  Getting about one a night every time I log in now although not so soon as others are reporting.  DX 8.1 already before 1.10 also.  Haven't found a pattern yet...

If you post you system spec's, and problem, in the hardware forum. There are guys there that know what they are talking about.

I recommend this. On a guess. Cacheman.

Fortunately I haven't had that problem yet, but I do know the crash into the water when missing tail AH hang is there.  (I can kill AH when that happens in Win2k with some effort, so it's not a lockup technically.)

I'd hang on, I'm sure HT is working on it.  Just look back at previous version changes on the patches to see just how much HTC works at bug fixing.  Until 1.09 and the tail missing bug (which coincidentally crashes the film viewer if you film it and then play the film) I can't remember any lockup bugs being present in AH on a final patch for a version.

Let me guess, you're in one of the caring professions right? I'm just guessing here as my smug tard 'O' meter went of the scale when examining your post, a reading that high can't be right, can it?
