Hi All,
Was on a movie website the other day and followed links to a new film called "Reign of Fire". Released in the US 12th July, Not sure of any release dates for Europe etc.
Seems to be the usual Women finds Dragon, Dragon destroys civilisation, Civilistaion strikes back kind of stuff but the special effects look excellent.
So.. Anyone seen it should I book my tickets now or is it only video material?
Thanks
Oh BTW heres the link... http://www.reignoffire.com

I went and saw it. It's not bad at all. Go see it at a matinee showing (if they have such a thing in Europe), so you don't have to pay full price. The affects were very nice, with the dragons very menacing. The acting was not bad, either. It's no "Lord of the Rings" mind you, but still very entertaining. And actually, it's a little boy who comes face to scaley face with the first beast and...well you'll just have to go see it.;)

I saw it last weekend. It's a good flick, but it wont win any awards :) The dragons were kick ass. The whole primise of the movie is pretty kick bellybutton too. They need to make a "prequel" and show the "history" of how the thing (dragon) got there in the first place ;)
Mathew McOnohay (sp i know) really tripped me out! This dude's been working out!

My wife saw it. She said "It takes the Dragon/Army guy genre in entirely new directions.
It wasn't bad, and there were some really cool "gee wiz!" moments. Popcorn movie perfect for a Sat. Afternoon when it's too freakin hot outside.
And udie, I think that TahGut was implying that you were showing Gayness, not McConagy.

It's definitly a matinee movie. While I enjoyed the movie I had this nagging feeling that somthing was missing from it. Something that I guess I was expecting going in and it just wasn't there and I couldn't put my finger on it. Maybe I was expecting more action or somthing but most of the action sequences are allready in the trailers it seems. McConagy really is a supporting character, and the film revolves around Christian Bail's character who first dicovers the dragons as a child. But the special effects are good, the archangel dudes are nuts and the dragons certainly look menacing, worth seeing at least at matinee prices.

If you like that concept, you might enjoy Dragons of Hearot by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. These don't fly buy that have telescopic eyes and a gland that secrets a heavy metal oxygenated "rocket fuel"..breath fire, ingest it..not a big diff;-)

Sounds good then. There are still movies I have yet to see though like Beautiful Mind, Shanghi Noon, and even classics like Ghandi.

nah.. I'm just into the special effects and the bad-ass dragons.
now when I was a kid I used to read about dragons....

These are lizards, that hunt in packs and take on dinosaurs on another planet. Mankind screws with their repoduction cycle and the fight is on. Would make a great movie.

Great, Thanks all. I think it will definately be worth a trip to watch it on the big screen when it comes to the UK, I'm a sucker for special effects and the trailers seem to show they are definately up to the task, Even if the actual storyline seems a bit shallow. I was interested in how they explained the fire breathing bit. Apparently it's based on an African beetle that shoots 2 seperate chemicals which burst into flame when they are mixed a few inches away - (getting the convergence settings wrong could be fatal). ;).

IMHO the trailers were the best part of the movie. I agree the effects were good but the movie didn't support them adequately. This is a good "cheap theater" or matinae movie only. Don't pay full price for this one!
-
the dragon effects where cool, all in all it was just what I expected- mad max with dragons.
Too bad there are no drive-ins around anymore, reign of fire & eight legged freaks would be a perfect, classic double feature for the old drive-in.
Anyway you'll definitely want to see it on a big screen, but wait for the cheap theater or catch the matinee

Dunno about the film but I saw a trailer in a cinema in LA last month. It showed a clip with a schoolboy walking in front of a building site in london. There was a London Underground sign on the building site with "Jubilee Line" written underneath. A caption came on with the words "It is the year 2080...". I didn't see much further because I was laughing too hard. Everyone in the audience thought I was mad.
Note to Americans and other aliens: the Jubille line construction project has been going on for ever and is years over due (to any Mass-holes out there it is the London equivalent of the Big Dig).

only problem with it was they don't kill enf dragons... (i like to see flying things shot down heh heh)
