As suggested from the "Dauntless adj." thread. Give these pics the weathered treatment.

hey vort! thats mine! take the one from the top!

Dux what program are you using? if your using photoshop, how did you rotate the zeke to be in that position?
-
:)

Vort... I played with noise a little, wasn't happy with the results. Old and weathered doesn't automatically mean noisy... the effect can be overused. I'll play some more with it, see if I can get it to look right :)
Joe... yes, it's PhotoShop. With an unaltered picture (while the blue sky is constant and even in the background) do the following:
1. Using the eyedropper tool, sample the blue sky that is in the immediate area of the Zero. Now your foreground color is sky blue.
2. Swap the foreground color with the background color in the toolbar.
3. take the lasso tool and draw a freehand selection around the zero... this will give you a non-square marquee area.
4. While area is still selected, go to Edit -> Transform -> Rotate. Rotate the selection by hand, move it to where you want, double-click within the marquee when it's where you want it.
If you didn't sample the background color first, you'd have a bit of touchup to do right about now.

Very nice dux
-
Thx unix.
Here you go, Vort... I noised it about as much as I dare to. Actually I blurred the noise, so it's more splotchy than noisy. I think I still like the first one better (just my personal taste).
-
here ya go..
-
I have a pretty limited photo shop here at work, but here's my shot:D
-
Darn Marmots are huge.. some the size of rabbits.. could get ugly.
-
These look like they were taken in very different circumstances. I tried to take that into account.
-
second one

Here's my take on the second

Hunted at Night

Double post :( I like the first one also Dux. Very photographic look.

.

Dux, your pics look like video captures from an old
black and white movie. They look worn and discolored
like stills from the original "King Kong" movie. (different
planes of course though;) ) WTG!:)

Dux, 3 questions if I may? (4 not including that one :p)
1. Did you blend the original background as a transparency into a cloudy one or use clone brush to create a seperate background before blending?
2. Also, how did you get that glossy look? What filter did that?
3. And if that is a filter your using, do you know if it is compatible with PSP?
-
FC

Here's my attempt.. hope it doesn't suck :)
-
And another..
-
and the colored version..
-
.. and the last one.. I messed up a bit on this one :(

Hiya sp00k,
I did a lot of things to it, I'll try to remember what they were (sometimes order is important too). This is PhotoShop, btw.
First I dumped out all the color, made it greyscale.
Adjusted the Levels.
Added a lighting effect to the image. this is the subtle light-to-dark gradient effect going from right to left.
Rendered a cloudy effect on to a new layer on top of the background, adjusted it's levels, and applied an Overlay transparency to it.
Touched up some highlights on the aircraft with the airbrush tool.
Flattened the cloudy layer on to the background (so now it's only one layer again).
Returned the image to RGB mode.
Using the Hue/Saturation adjustment, added color to the image (but because it started as grey, the color is tonal)
That's about it. Of course there were probably several little tweaks here and there that I probably did subconsciously.
If you are just trying to add texturing and weathering effects to an image, consider doing it on a second layer and burning it in... that way you're not blasting out the important part of the image with the effects process.
FSP is...? Not familiar with it, but all bitmap editors do pretty much the same things. Unfortunately, there rarely is just one filter that does exactly what you're looking for... often it's the combination of several in a particular order that does it . All I can say is experiment. PhotoShop has a great feature: the ability to Undo several steps at once, so you can really play around and not get into too much trouble. I've been doing this kind of work for almost 20 years now, and I still need to play around to get the right effect. Sure, I have a good idea of where I want to go, but the path is not always what you guess it will be. The cool thing is that while you're looking for one particular effect, you will stumble upon something that will be totally appropriate for another project. Jump in and play. Save As often, save many versions, go back to them.
One more bit of advise to all about filters... you want the effect to be juuuuust noticable, so don't overdo it. The subject matter is always more important than the effect. The proper effect will set the tone subconsciously and still let the story be told.
btw, Kweassa I really like that last one.

Did anyone tell it yet ?
YOU GUYS HAVE TALENTS :)

Been away for five days surfing and missed when this started, so heres my contribution :)
I used 3ds Max 4 and Photoshop 7 to create this 3D model.
I used two real photos and the dauntless picture (there about 10 zeros chasing it :D) as textures, I set up 18 low multiplier spotlights for lighting (as I dont have Radiosity) and also depth of field effect.
Burnt paper effect was added to dauntless picture just airbrush and burn tool and a alpha channel added to be used to alpha cut the plane object to make it render jagged.
Also Raytraced shadow, then I hit the render button and waited about 20 minutes for it and posted it :)

I remebr getting games in the BOX..liek AW..and they would have screen shots that look like these...then you play the game...and it didnt look anything like that,,,lolo
NICe job,,,,
Blank....exceelent tactic w/ the other stuff in there....
only thing I would say is its preety hard to imagine a real Air to air pic that close to another plane..maybe a little obstruction so it looks like a rear gunner took the pic??
anyways..KIK asssssssss guys really good pics...well most of them..lol:)
Love BiGB

'acheesetasticphotoshopfilterbonanzapic' :D

While looking at my first picture I saw it had a face and this came out my head,
It is the 'Great white Dauntless' :D
-
OK here's my effort fwiw (will anyone read this far down?)
-
Heh Blank that one pic sure looks like pilot is standing on the brakes with his both feet :D
-
whoa Blank those last pics are way cool!
-
Boy, that first one is tough to work with. Just changing it6 to grey scale works best, if you try and get too tricky with it the Zero in the background won't show up.
-
And then adding a little noise to the picture, trick is adding just the right amount.
-
And sharpen it just one notch... also have to resize the image as each change you make creates a larger file.
-
Some very nice work above!
