1. That red icon hanging in my pereferal vision is annoying and causes double takes.
2. Guy hanging in chute near a fight can check six his buddies and/or give sit rep to incoming goon.
3. I figure most of the time I'm doing the guy a favor if he popped his chute high enough for me to get annoyed and have time to make a pass at him.
4. For others, the injustice of it make them so #@$% mad, it's too hard to resist.
5. The doppler sound effect is so nicely modeled in AH, I figure I'm giving the bloke a treat hearing my F4U turn in with .50's blazing at close range. I always hope they have Mitzu's sounds installed.

Hear, hear! This is why I shoot chutes whenever I am not too busy doing other things. When people stop hanging around on the ground after bailing, I'll stop shooting chutes.
-
As one who has been shot down in his chute, I say thanks.
Usually when I try to pop my chute my hang time is 3-4 seconds. Either that or I go splat. If I'm in the air long enough for somebody to strafe me, it's because I hit the 'O' way too early. Shooting me down allows me to reup faster.
When I see somebody in a chute I leave em alone just because I know they'll be floating a while instead of quickly reupping.:D
-
Yep, some times old WB habits die hard and you bail and open. Then a friendly enemy comes down and kills you and you say "thank God!" because now you can grab a new plane. That is why I ignore enemy chutes - let them hang there and suffer :)
-
number 2 is incorrect. You can no longer give a check six while hanging in the chute.

If he can chat on range channel, he dies!
Um. Even if he can't chat on range channel, he still dies. I just like sniping the explosive belt that bailing pilots wear around their waists.

Perhaps, Rip, but AH voices still works, doesn't it?

well we could ask HT or Pyro, but isn't it more fun just to think they can use them and kill their chutes anyway? :D

I not only shoot chutes, I HO them :D :p
-
Perhaps Sabre, DMF...my post was regarding the keyboard check 6.

I have a question: As a chute shooter, do you think that your shooting of someones chute has no effect on their score?
It is my understanding that your score is determined in part by a multiplier that rewards X amount for bailing succesfully versus being killed.
If you shoot someones chute, you're actively denying them a large percentage of whatever perks they might have gotten for their sortie up to being shot.
Explain again why they should thank you? Your argument is faulty.
-
I was flying along in my P-40 wishing that I could actually climb up to that fight at 5k and realising that I would not be able to unless it lasted another 5 minutes when one of the enemy planes burst into flames and the pilot ejected. My chance had finally come. I lined up the shot and tried to time it so I came into range just as he opened his chute. I could tell he saw me coming because he tried to cut it close. The chute opened and I opened fire... seemingly hundreds of pings found their target and I was rewarded with a fireball where a pilot had been.
Its the little things that make the game so worthwhile.

I had a guy running back and forth behind a boulder on the pizza map as I tried to strafe him, for about 5 minutes. Was a blast.
Oh yeah, and you chute shooters are evil.
-
I wonder if shooting chutes affects your gunnery?
-
Rip, you dive in at 400mph on a chute, that's training right there!

its pretty tough to hit them with rockets..but very rewarding.

So are you arguing that I shouldn't shoot down a Tempest because of the poor guy who will loose his perks? That's a new twist.
(Isn't actively denying people of perk points what this game is all about?)
At any rate, there's no diff in perks between a "killed" and a "bailed". I'm not sure if there's a slight difference in scored points.
OK so they don't thank me. I kill them anyway.
-
Chute shooting is a dreadful thing. It's most likely one of the worst, morally speaking, acts one can do.
Thus, our PR officer, lazs, has directed that all BK's strive to shoot all chutes within visible range, providing we can beat him to them.
-
EVVK!
Get over it:rolleyes:
-
im all for chute shooting.....but...i like my ammo.
-
What if the pilot gave you a good fight, would you still shoot their chute? If you really enjoyed a furball, it seems pretty dirty to actively try and take whatever perks they did earn away. Alternatively, it would be the equivalent of shouting 'HA HA! I shot you down, you suck!' instead of 'Good fight,
'

Samiam, you are incorrect.
From this link:
http://www.hitechcreations.com/scoring.html
Death Multipliers
Landed 1.0
Discoed .25
Bailed .5
Ditched .75
Captured .4
Killed .25
Crashed .25
[/FONT]
Bailed has a perk multiplier of .50 and killed has a perk multiplier of .25, so your assertion that killing a chute has no effect on them is false. Do you argue w/ HTC about that?
-
oooo Rockets.. great idea Pongo

I don't want them to thank me. I want them to die. One incentive for me to shoot a chute is exactly because I know people bail to preserve points. There's nothing historical about it. It isn't a life or death thing, it's a points thing. Most of these people squeak because they lost points when their chutes died, not because it's historically monstrous to strafe chutes.
And thus, whenever and wherever possible... chutes die for my amusement alone.

It's a game. They'll learn to deal with such setbacks or move on to something more their speed. I hear Candy Land is fun.

These are score multipliers, not perk point multipliers. There's a 1.25 perk multiplier for landing. That's it.
Be it perk points or score, my point still stands. Shooting them down in the first place is impacting their score. Should I not do that?
Given your sentiments, I can only assume that you are never in that flock chasing me trying to rob me of my perks whenever I fly a TEMP into a furaball. For that I thank you!
In answer to your other question (and this you aren't going to like): It's pretty rare that I actually kill the chute of someone I just shot down. Rather, it's usually some random chute that I come across (or that has been anoying me out of the corner of my eye) :D
-
I never shoot chutes just because so many people find it so objectionable. I do however love to buzz em and make em think I'm gonna.

You mean, I've been shooting all these people in the furtherance of a twisted lie? That instead of being useful, I'm just fulfilling some sick sadistic fantasy? Is that what you're saying?
Oh, well.:p

Shooting chutes is the goal. Shooting planes is only done to make more of them.

I want all live members of a bomber to bail. so killing 3 b17s would put up ? 36 chutes or something..all with smith and wesson 38s to shoot at you?
-
I shot the chute....but I did not shoot the deputy.
-
I have one question for the guys that don't shoot chutes.
Do you bounce planes? or Do you shoot a guy in a plane that doesn't know you're there? ;)
nobody dies here, let's move along nothing to see here.....
-
If we weren't supposed to shoot chutes, then HTC wouldn't have given them icons or nice explosion effects.
-
Some times, the chute shooter is not the same person who caused the chute to wear silk. I'd like the chute to get a system message so he knows who shot his chute.:D
-
I bail just to piss in the face of the downed pilot :P
-
Thanks! It gets me back to the Tower faster. (I'm Soooo over it)

where you get 36 from?
10 crew in a b17, thats 30
-
Best way to kill a chute: Circle them untill the moment before they touch the ground. Drop a 1000lb bomb on that point.
-
yeah if the dang yak only had some "chute" ammo i'd go for it.
The best thing about being in a chute is getting 'kills' in it.

I shoot a chute i always picture some 15 year old in Iowa, having a toejamfit and after throwing his joystick threw the window( which mom bought) running down stairs and kicking his dog....
