Choice 1: Yes, you shouldn\'t be able to tell them apart at a distance. (http://www.innomi.com/poll.php?action=vote&pid=57738f7b1c2ea18792d597e1a3269eb6&choice=1)
Choice 2: Change the non-perk icons so they show the specific model. (i.e. Spit9 P51D) (http://www.innomi.com/poll.php?action=vote&pid=57738f7b1c2ea18792d597e1a3269eb6&choice=2)
Choice 3: Leave things the way they are. (http://www.innomi.com/poll.php?action=vote&pid=57738f7b1c2ea18792d597e1a3269eb6&choice=3)
(On a side note, it just occured to me that maybe I have too much spare time)

You've already voted handsomehunk.
:D
Hey Innominate, you did this with the GD? If yes, I'm interested into getting help for installing it, thx!

Yeah... what he said...
Please share... this is really cool. :)

It's GD, and a php script I threw together. Oddly enough, getting GD and PHP to deal with the truetype fonts was more of a pain than the script itself.

Needed a 4th choice: Give everything its own icon.

Is that not #2?

If the perk system is to actually work as an incentive to fly less common, or less effective aircraft then the only viable option is #1.
#2 would still have perk planes singled out, and to some degree would single out early war aircraft like the Bf109E-4 and Spitfire Mk I as easy kills making it harder for them too.
#3 is, obviously, what we have now and it works fine for most non-perk aircraft (La-5FN, La-7, C.202 and C.205 being exceptions), but it removes the perk system as an effective incentive to gather perk points, It works counter to this by making perk planes unenjoyable to fly. The perk icons and the perk price equal a kind of double jeopardy and its no fun to be gangbanged in an aircraft with slightly better performance that you spent reward points to fly. You can get gangbanged for free.
Here is what I'd like to see in icon changes:
C.202 = C200
C.205 = C200
La-5FN = LAGG
La-7 = LAGG
F4U-4 = F4U
Spitfire Mk XIV = SPIT
Ta152H-1 = 190
Tempest Mk V = TYPH
Me262A-1 = 262
Ar234B = 234
What it comes down to is this:
Is the perk system meant to limit the usage of top end aircraft or is it meant to stigmatize top end aircraft?
If it is meant to limit the usage of top end aircraft simply to prevent them from swarming the arena then the perk price is all that is needed. The F4U-1C saga has demonstrated this perfectly.
If the perk system is meant to stigmatize the usage of top end aircraft it works wonderfully for this, but begs the question of why the aircraft and system were added.

How bout having the perk icon only appear within 1k so ya gotta get close to get an ID.

I think that's a good idea. For instance: Tag says 190 until you get within 1k, then it switches to Ta152.
-
Swoop,
I don't think that icons should ever single out perk planes, unless like the 262 and 234 there is no other option.
However, you're idea is vastly, vastly presfferable to what we have now.
It'd be better just labeling them SPIT, F4U, TYPH and 190 at all icon ranges. Anything that assists in the "gangbang the perk plane" works counter to the idea of perk planes being a reward.
Still, you're idea could be a halfway point meeting betwen the two concepts. I would not mind seeing it tried at all.

Changing the icons is not the answer. Tagging perk planes keeps the guys that earn them just a tad nervous, more wary, and only slightly less likely to take advantage of a superior plane. If, flown with the proper tactics, they can still be effective.
While earning perk planes you should have learned things like patience, situational awareness, and a sense of when you do/don't have the ability to escape. The icon just helps to level that knowledge, but not beyond the point where a skilled pilot *should* be able to maintain the upper hand with a perk ride.
The results of this poll are consistent with the ratio of pilot skill in this game and are not surprising.

Oh Bravo Sierra Voss, all it does is create a witch hunt. There is nothing added to the game by giving perks special icons other than that lovely conga line they create.
I never bother with any perk other than the 262 specifically because it imparts no advantage, and actually decreases my enjoyment of the game watching every dweeb, tard and wana be chase me without reguard to anything else.
Heck, one of the primary advantages of the ARADO is that you can clear a path for a goon by flying it near the town.....and watch each and every single plane, stop defending the base to chase you.

Boy would I love to see some people in REAL COMBAT, it's so easy isn't it? Talk about a meat grinder. If this was done you will whine to HTC to change another "facet" of the game. Get pissed off because they aren't moving fast enough, try to inject silly humor and then gripe some more.
Masher
Take the damn things off, I don't need them anyways, I shoot anywhere from 50-1.2 away anyways (1.2k in a Jug, I'll lead ya and ping you).

I spent all of last night flying a tempest and to be honest I was getting a tad sick of the conga line that followed me everywhere. Guys tried to ram me, ho me, and basically anything that might cause me to lose 70 perkies. On the plus side, your regular Mr J.Dweeb Esq, does some rather silly things when theres a perkie about, like blowing huge amounts of e, and ridiculous spraying while trying to hang on a prop, so if ya play it right there are lots of easy kills to be had. So there are pluses and minuses of hanging out yer perk icon. I would like to see types of spits labelled tho. With the new skins its hard to tell em apart at a quick glance. OTOH when you fly a BZ tactic it doesnt really matter what spit u come up against you pretty much deal with em all the same way.
-
#2... call em all out and stigmatize what needs to be stigmatized.
Look... if ya don't fly a wussy plane and your not a wuss... what do you have to be afraid of? What do you "stealth" guys want? maybe you want it so that if you earn enough "perks" by living online you get an invisible plane?
sheesh..
