Well, in my highschool, fists were used when arguements got heated up, not shotguns.
-
...and to top it off. The guy is charged with first degree murder.

Rip, I was using that term, as in the SHEER STUPIDITY of shooting someone with the anti-god, god, whatever.

GODLEY, Texas (Reuters) -- An argument over who was going to heaven and who was going to hell ended with one Texas man expiditing the process.
You guys are being too harsh, this guy was only creating an experiment to prove his hypothesis.

Understand K1, and I was using my example of how we've deteriorated as a society...where one has to use excessive force in a heated debate.

I don't think it was his intention to use excessive force. It read to me like the guys were just phucing around, and one got blasted. More a drunken accident than any hostile action.

Well in my previous life (as a troubled teenager) we had weapons around to settle our disputes, but it never occured to use those on people. Today, it seems if a kid has a problem, he gets a gun...

You should watch to movie "Friday" Rip, it has the same message ;)
-Sikboy (who doesn't think that this case is an example of the very real problem cited by Ripsnort)

One example of many...Columbine could be another ;)

I know Rip, I know. I never turned down a fight in school (long time ago). It is sad that rutabagas got ahold of guns, because they got their tulips kicked for, running off with the mouth. Yes society has deteriorated. I cringe at the thought of my 10 mo. old's future presidents. The dress code for the pres. by then will be tongue studs, toejamload of earings, baggy pants with a foot of underwear showing and pant legs that are constantly stepped on.

there's the problem...."trailer park". heh.
anyhow....so, if one dude grabs the gun from the other dude, and shoots himself (or, the "gun goes off"), the second dude get's charged for murder? WTF?
i hate the press sometimes.

School shootings are mostly a sign of the problems in our state-funded, compulsory daycare centers, not our society. People usually fail to see the cause of a problem when they are the cause. So they look to outside sources to blame. (Movies, video games, music, etc)
One thing that I've never really understood is how, a 17 year old kid in highschool can get away with stuff that would get an adult thrown into prison. Lets see what happens when you're forced to be harrassed and assaulted for years.
-
Drunken accident / stupidity. About as far removed from Columbine as you can get Rip.

I'm the strange one? I was pointing out the huge difference between the tragedy at Columbine. Where 2 intelligent young men snapped and went on a killing spree, and this accident in a trailer park where you can almost hear one of them say "Hey Ya'll watch this!". You on the other hand seem to feel the need to argue a point even though you have been in "left field" for the entire thread. ROFL Rip.

Innominate, its worse than you think... at least in Florida. Here is a true story of an incident I was involved in as a police supervisor.
One night, about 4am, husband and wife were in bed sleeping. There was a noise in the room. The hubby woke up to find two men standing near the bed, one was taking his wive's jewelry and the other was going through his pants pocket. He yelled, and chased the startled burglars out the house and down the street.
We had a police manhunt in the area using dogs, a helicopter and 10 - 15 officers. The two burglars ( black male 17 year old juvies) were quickly captured, still in possession of property taken from the home.
Because they were juveniles, they were transported to the Juvenile Intake Facility (JIF), a jail for juveniles. JIF refused to take custody of these two burglars because they had not been armed and did not commit a "violent" act. The JIF facility is so overcrowed, they won't take arrested juvies unless they are arrested for a crime of violence.
I went round and round with them, but it did no good. They insisted that we turn these two over to their parents. Guess what? Neither one knew where their fathers were. One lived with an Aunt, who couldn't come and pick him up. The other was staying with a cousin. Long story short, we wound up turning them over to their homies who were over 18 years of age (responsible adults ;) ) I could hardly face the man and wife who were the victims in this case, and tell them that we had to release these two 17 year olds.
I still find it incredulous that you can wake up at night to somebody tip-toeing around in your bedroom, and the cops can't lock him up. At least in Florida, if the bad guy is under 18 yoa... :(

This thread is titled "Is This High School 0r What?" Well, the way Ripsnort and Masherbrum immediately started talking about how tough they were back in The Day I think a more appropiate title might be "Is This JUNIOR High School or What?" LOL Get over your bad selves guys. You aren't impressing anyone.

I can still remember when JJ Branch knocked the crap outta me for sticking up for a friend. Ahh those pleasant High School memories. (I'm not kidding here, that's one of my favorites).
Guess I shouldn't have been "runnin off with the mouth" while he threatened and intimidated people smaller than him lol.

Its not a problem with American society, its just a problem with the Texas correctional system :)
