At what?  Flying?  If so... Air Force.

Grabb ass?  If so... Navy/Marine.

Actually... I don't think you can actually compare the two since there is significantly different missions/responsibilities between them.

I do have one observation from my military existance at a shack near EOR at an airforce base:

Navy pilots are the worst land landers on the face of the earth.  They drive the plane right into the runway and bounce once every time.  Then again... I've never seen an Air Force pilot (or navy pilot for that matter) land on a carrier.

Hmmm, let me see. Consider me an authority on this topic - I have 'worked with' Pilots/Aviators/etc. from many different Nations very closely.

Well, they are all equally as dead when their aircraft slams into a mountain, or the ocean, or something else...often thru no real fault of their own - while serving their Nation.

And they all tend to get equally messed up even when they do manage to eject 'safely'. If anyone wants to know what I mean by 'safely' (which means that anyone has never had to eject from an aircraft and/or has never been close to someone who just has ejected from an aircraft), well, I'm about to eat a late dinner and I'm not really in the mood to 'talk' about that right now.

And when they fail to return - often times having gone missing for no few number of days, which means their families *literally* never get to see them again - USAF, USN, USMC, USCG, LW, RAF, etc., their Husband/Wife/Children/Mom/Dad/Brother/Sister/Best Friend/etc. all miss them terribly.

And every USAF/USN/USMC/etc. Pilot/Aviator/etc. has more that one great Friend he made at some point in training or a deployment that will get killed flying sooner or later.

So in my opinion they are roughly equal.

HOWEVER,

USN are always better looking.

USAF have better rooms usually.

USMC are Marines, and thus by definiton crazier than anyone else as a group.

p.s. A great little story here - I know a guy who flew F-4s on the Oriskany's last deployment during the war in Viet Nam. He said that all the A-4, F-4, etc. aircrew worshipped the A-1 Skyraider guys. Many of the A-1 guys were Korean war veterans, and they were 'colorfully insane'...landing on the CV with the canopy open, a silk scarf flowing out of the open canopy, etc.

Flight of the Intruder touched on this a bit.  Some of my favorite parts of that book involved the A1 scenes.

I heard a good story once. A Marine and a Navy guy were sitting in a bar drinking beer. After a while they both need to go to the bathroom. After they are finished, the Navy dude washes his hands properly, but the Marine just walks out of the restroom. When they are sitting at their table again,

the Navy guy says.
-"Didnt you wash your hands?"

The Marine answers
-"No"

This bothers the Navy guy, and he says
-"In the Navy they teach us to wash our hands after we have been to the bathroom."

The Marine replies
-"In the Marines they teach us not to piss on our hands."

Well when it comes to training I would say Navy and then Marines second with AirForce third. When it comes to who is most deadly, I guess it all depends on the individual and doesnt have much to do with rank, service, country, or even time alive other than that, all of those factors put him at the right time, right place, with the right amount of luck to do his thing.

That guy sitting right over there was a Marine A-4 pilot in Nam.

I took a picture of the A-4 in the Smithsonian Air Museum specifically to show my co-worker. I sent it to him on inter office e-mail thinking he would be pleasently surprised, then heard this........

"what the hell is this NAVY toejam!!"

In my opinion...Air Force has better hardware, Navy/Marines have better pilots.

Oh some advice on what I just said, if you have a daughter that is approaching her teens or is a teen. Take her on a ride on your bike, whatever it is, then kindly shove her off at low speed. That outa do the trick, she'll never get on another two wheeled thing again. The alternative would be to thow her off the rear of a JetSki but this will only work if she is really dweebish. You'll do it if you love her. However if she has your balls the boys will enjoy hearing about how she was conditioned by "father" on his Harley and how she loves to ride on motorcycles (with a smile and a gling in that dimple).

Air Farce don't land on CV's in the dark. The Air Farce can't hit toejam unless a seal or a marine lazes a target for 'em. In fact, the ChAir Farce weenies are pretty much a bunch of gizmo geeks compared to yer average steelly eyed floatie.

Naval Aviators sadly have a hard time gettin those lil hats down over their fat heads. Marines on the other hand, just get it done. Remember, a Marine Pilot is a Marine first.. then a Pilot.

Frankly, I'd buy any soldier in uniform a beer, but I'd pour the Marine Pilot anything he wants from the top shelf.
