Post by: LePaul on July 31, 2002, 02:04:45 PM
Interesting read.

Everyone seems to watch what HTC does with careful scrutiny before pondering if they should  ;)

Of course, we can PLAY Aces High.  There is no Target Korea game to buy/fly...its been in beta since??

Seems they should foucs on getting a product/service LAUNCHED before they comment on what HTC's proposals will fail or suceede

But hey, call  me Kooky for pointing out the facts  :D

Who are these guys?  U mean there is actually ANOTHER flight sim out there?  I thought AH was the only one :D

I agree LaPaul, everyone else scrutinizes, criticizes, says it won't work, but before you know it, everyone else has it.  :D   to HTC

*Shrug*

My personal best was a 1.4k deflection shot on my first bomber formation mission in 1.10, but the plane in question was at 4:00 high and not manuvering.  This was an exception to my normal pathetic performance.  In general I have a very hard time gunning in buffs.

My personal oppinion on that thread is that it is increadibly bad taste for someone representing themselves as being #1 with one sim to directly quote an official AH development announcement (without giving credit... or even if they did) and ask if they should impliment it.

And this from someone that claimed to be a buisness expert.

Sorry towd... but "HTC said" isn't really all that.

It was an official announcement by a competitor.  It was quoted without saying who the competitor was and that it was an official announcement.  The only way you could tell would be by derriving it from the link or following the link and investigating things.

Once again... bad buisness form... especially from those in the buisness.

I love their logo.
I got the impression from reading it that they had allready anounced such a concept for thier game.
I will post a question in "Ask Funked" and see what the big fella himself says.

  AKDejaVu...believe it or not but the abreviation HTC is really well known and reputated under us flight sim junkies... and the link brings you directly to the original Thread.
First thing I see there is the Aces High logo so unless you are blind it is not exactly rocket science to figure anything out.
...investigating.... ...but of course, if you think its that hard... each to his own...

Pongo: yeah, if you look at the screenshot in that thread it was originally posted 02-18-2002. Why should anybody with a sane mind waste his time to program a mission and strat editor if the code and concept wasn´t in place allready?
You can find the anouncements in the press section on the TW server. Sorry Pongo, won´t post a direct link here since THAT would be bad business form (AK take a note please).

I personally applaud HTCs move to an mission based arena and got me excited as a simmer even more like the first time I looked into Il2.
There seems to be a good thinking and planning behind it given from what I know from the announcement. Finally there will be an 24/7 S3 like arena going on where it counts to LIVE. And this is a GREAT thing IMO.

I will for sure reactivate my account if I can and check it out. And I am sure a lot of homeless Hardcore simmers will do the same. Sounds like big fun and I hope it works like they envision it.
A big WTG for taking that step to the HTC team.

cheers,

Vapourware?
"Vapourware is software that is not yet written. It is part of modern marketing: you tell people there is a cool product that they need, and you count the number of people that calls you to get more information. If that number is high enough, you might actually go ahead and turn the Vapourware into real software"

Dam gotta delete few files from my hd when I get back to home...

humm what game was that again?

TK is being built by "players". sort of a part time gig. Its a different deal. Also its cross platform.  I always thought the speed that HT got AH up, had a lot to do with not doing the Mac thing.

So its 'CommitteeWare'?

Pretty much.  With a lot of emphasis on anti hacking, from what I gather.

If ANY Targetware product ever goes live, I predict it probably wont happen in 2002.  Likely in 2004, maybe in 2003, but I suspect it will probably will come with an emphatic and  anticlimatic fizzel once (if) it ever does go live.  Its simply been too long.  Hobbies are like that :(

I would think that committee-ware would lend it self to be more open to 'hacking' oppotunities.

You are so very right

I've been involved in many projects in the BBS world where folks wanted to port of BBS Software from the DOS days into Win32 code.  While there is great interest at first, it usually becomes less a team project and more "what the lead programmer" wants it to be, etc etc

Certainly there are many good examples of people deciding to go about something on their own and succeding.  And I don't know any of the guys at TargetWare...but from my experience with folks that wanted to make newer/better/improved BBS packages, most often it dries up, fizzles or fails due to "too many cooks in the kitchen".

I hope I'm not being charged $2.50 per minute for that prediction, Miss Cleo-Yeager! ;)

Allow me to correct a misconception about what Target Korea and Target Rabaul are.  They are NOT 'committeeware', whatever that is.  Targetware, as a company, has defined roles for everyone in it, and rule by committee is not how it operates.

Target Rabaul, as a community server project, also has defined roles for participants.  I think if you asked any of them (yes, several of them fly AH), they would tell you that there isn't a lot of hemming and hawing about what to do next, what not to do, etc.  THere is a plan, we're following it, and it's coming along nicely.  We continue to add new developers as we go, just added another AH flyer this morning, as a matter of fact.

A little picture I snapped during a test yesterday.

Too bad you're not signed up for the TR beta test Yeager, you could have finally shot me down... I'm all rusty from all my ACM-by-committee.

Oh well, a flyable sim would be better of a lot of bla-bla. So lets stop this cross-posting and lets play the flyable one, AcesHigh that is :)

Jokes apart, I'm sure TR will get a lot of players *when* it will be available and maybe as good as beta-testers say. I'll be one of them. I became old waiting new TK releases .... sadly I finally gave up. Sorry, but online sims needs a fast develpment, without time holes. This is what I liked about AH beta and like *very much* about the actual development.

LOL, good one, Gatt

When they have a flyable sim up, I'll give them some more leeway on what they say.  It'll lend some vredibility, in my opinion.

I signed up early on for the closed beta, never heard a thing.  Nay-Sayer mode is still on  :P

When will Targetware be giving the great unwashed a look at their product?  Talk, talk, talk just doesn't produce any good feeling towards their effort.  I used to watch the BBS there,
but didn't see anything but a few screenshots.  Have given up watching their BBS.

Surely it should be ready for primetime by now.  Good luck with it.  I hope it will be everything you want it to be.  I hope I will be alive to see your product!

Wow.

At first I thought Blacky was Easymo... then there was the post about gunnery that was clearly HiTech. Still, I couldn't resolve how Blacky was both arguing for and against buffs in AH. Then I thought it might be Lazs, but the style just wasn't there...

...then Easymo confessed. Thanks for the rollercoaster ride! S!

AKD-

Let it go. First, they didn't say anything negative about HTC. Second, even if they had, it's on another board- hey, it happens. Third, yes, maybe it wasn't a great idea to post information in our Off-topic forum, but it isn't uncommon, and we do have people discuss other sims all the time. HTC will let us know when it has gone too far. FWIW, I am very interested in their WWI sim, and will want to look at it when it is ready. AH doesn't have a WWI sim that I know of, DoA is dead, so what is wrong with that? Chances are I could afford to play both. ;)

Kieren.. I didn't bring it up there till someone else did.

And.. if you want it to be let go.. best not to bring it up again.

Its not cool to post official announcements on a comptetor's bbs and its not cool to post theirs on yours.

Still can't believe this is being debated.

Time spent looking at other games always serves to remind me about how truly amazing the speed is at which HTC develops and updates Aces High. Easily the fastest in the business.

Hi Yak,  been awhile since we exchanged subtle pleasantries ;)

I (like may others) have been anxiously awaiting both Target Korea and Target Raubal since they were announced.  Im not shunning the obvious potentiol of the sickware game engine, Im just frustrated at the time elapsed.

If you folks would only let me in :)
