I am a newbie at making maps :) I was *trying* to make a map the other day. I got the terrain laid out. Put in all the hills and mountains I want. Put the water where I want it, land where i want it, ect.
Then I went to add air fields.I selected AFLrg-1 (or somthing like that) and placed it on the map. I countied to place air feilds. Then I added the HQ's ect.
Problem: I open map, airfeilds wont show. What am I doing wrong? Keep in mind:
When i placed the airfeilds I did select the 3: new option, or the 2: new options (always selected the "new" option)
Thats all i did, slecte new option, then place feild
Thanks for any help!

did you forget to click the air field icon button on the clip board in AH?

Thanks for replay :) I figured it out. I wasn't copying the map file from the terrain folder to the HTC/Terrains folders, so I just kept opening the same terrain over and over.
New question though. Is there a way to import new ground textures? I notice some maps have sand, and that isn't in the Terain editor, so is there a way to make you own?
Thanks!

You'll need an art program ( i prefer CorelDraw/CorelPaint) But any program will do. Do a search threw this forum and there is a post where i showed what tiles are what. Then name them by the right file name and put them into the folder of your map, it will use these tiles instead of the default ones.

Ok, I downloaded a few sample tiles from somewheres on this board, and made a few of my own. How do I get these into the editor?
BTW: The name of my folder\files i am working on is: airfeild
C:\Program files\HTC\aheditor\terrains\airfeild
thanks!

I read you post above and you said:
"Then name them by the right file name and put them into the folder of your map, it will use these tiles instead of the default ones."
I alread have an airfeild.bmp file in that folder. In the map maker, I went to file, make map. And I got a map.bmp file, and re-named it to airfeild.bmp. So now when i open my map in AH, that map appears.
How do i rename the texture files to airfeild.bmp? Are the texture files supposed to be in .bmp format?
Thanks

Up, I got it to work, but new question:
I have made: Sand, and city tiles and named them terr0004, and terr0003
The way it's set up is when i click "rock" in the terrain editor, my city tile shows up, and when I hit grassy rock, my sand tile shows up. Is there antoerh way to do this?

no

Ty :) new question again, I am making a small test terrain, and I have an arieal view of a city, that I am usising as a tile. Is there a way to smooth out the edges? it just doesnt look good when you have a large feild of grass, then all of a sudden a city tile is there

Here is tile I made
-
how tiles work
heres how they work
7 main tiles...
terr0000 water: ( tiles with nothing)
terr0001 grass: (tiles w/grassy rock/farm/rock/forest)
terr0002 grassy rock: (tiles w/ grass/rock/forest/snow
terr0003 farm: ( tiles w/grass/rock/forest)
terr0004 rock: (tiles w/grass/farm/forest)
terr0005 forest: ( tiles w/grass/grassy rock/farm/rock)
terr0016 snow: ( tiles w/ grassy rock)
those are how and what each main tile will transitional tile with. Once these tiles are made, the rest of the tiles are easily made from a combination of these.
now the transitional tiles are as follows first style is the Main or center of the tile the second is the outside edges of the tile.
terr0006 grass/grassy rock
terr0007 grass/farm
terr0008 grass/rock
terr0009 grass/forest
terr0010 rock/farm
terr0011 grassy rock/rock
terr0012 grassy rock/forest
terr0013 farm/rock
terr0014 farm/forest
terr0015 rock/forest
terr0016 SNOW
terr0017 grassy rock/snow
This is for the Old editor, i don't know how this will change with the new one.

This was an old post there are now 3 additional tiles, terr0018, terr0019 and terr0020
I believe Nuttz would recommend that you use the terr0016 as your City tile and then use the terr0017 to blend with it since you are new to making tiles.

Thanks for all the help guys!

IS it required that you use 256 color? all my tiles come out looking werid like this.
-
double post
-
do them in 16 bit, then save them as 8bit/256 with irfan

Wow! Thanks. That program works a lot better than MS Paint for converting :) (I am using Photoshop for tiles btw :) )

Last question, I promise :)
See the picture below. Notice how the grass meets up with the water nicely, and this test texture i made (supposed to be sand) dones't meet up, and is just a pointy square. IS there a way to get the sand to meet up smoothly with the water?
I really appricate all this help! big thank you

Unless you can get inside Nuttz head, then I would say, don't place it where it joins the water tiles.
Coastal tiles ( terr0018, 0019, 0020 ) only blend with grass.
