I'm expecting some interesting responses.
-
That looks like a landing accident. If it is; why's he still got his drop tank on? That looks really nasty...
-
He's got his Drop tanks still on because a mechanical failure didn't allow him to jettison it. If I remember corectly :)

Pilot is burned alive during World War II
-
Guy in front:
"Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mother down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!"
-
Guys in the hangar deck:
"Da roof, da roof, da roof is on fire! We don't need no water, let the *&$%&)*@ burn!"

I don't feel much comfortable with putting a funny caption on a pic where a man is about to be burned alive. Sorry.
to man who's trying to save him, he's more couragous that I'll ever dream to be.
-
"Stanley warned the deck crew that last night's curry was particularly potent"
-
i agree with deSelys......i cant really put a caption on this one
-
if it helps I believe both guys lived.
-
I'll caption it.
"Heroism"
"Valor"
"Selflessness"
take your pick.
to all who fought for our country.
-
I know the man climbing INTO this burning aircraft would just say 'I was just doing my job'..but he is going way beyond the call of duty saving his brother like this. I sure hope they both made it.
-
IIRC, nobody was injured on that incident.
-
I am about 99% sure that the ground crewman climbing on the cat, got the pilot out.
That is pretty famous pic.
-
"Who's the general who keeps turning the damn CV !?!!???"
-
ouch, Grizz
-
That guy in the front sure looks like he would think "is that guy nuts?"
-
call me dense, but I see nothing funny about this picture.
-
It could have been funnier thread if the picture was accompanied by a note that no one was hurt. It is not good to joke about tragedy but "almost tragedy" - those we joke about all the time.

Let me add this to the photo.
Courage, Duty, Honor Sacrifice, all above love of self.
to both MEN pictured in that situation.
-
I believe that nobody was hurt in this particular incident

He got a medal.
The pilot was bringing a wounded Hellcat back and the drop tank wouldn't release. The gear collapsed upon landing and the tank ruptured, spilling avgas onto the deck. The heat from the motor ignited the fuel. The man climbing onto the wing is the LSO (I believe) who got the pilot out of the plane. Both survived the accident.
My caption:
"Sure is hot in the south pacific..."
Now caption this!
-
I am simply amazed a that the man can climb up on the plane due the enormous size of his balls.
"Uncommon Valor" comes to mind.
-
C'mon gofaster! that can't be a real plane! It is way too ugly and was obviously dreamt up by some degenerate fornicator like Kurt Tank!

"The Luftwaffe tests their new 109...with a space saveing mono-landing gear"

Caption for my pic:
"Bish Carrier Landing for Beginners"
gofaster's pic:
"Due to lack of resources, the Luftwaffe has decided that one wheel will suffice"
