...wuz just thinkin'...even if I did have trouble killin buffs I wouldn't admit it here, learn the cones of fire and plan your attack. Killin' buffs is as easy as kilin a Char, you just have to know where to hit one.

Tone down the turbolaser. I would GLADLY have the buff eat 3 or 4X the damage they can take now. If the amazing firepower the bombers have is to help them survive on their own because people dont fly them in the formations they flew in RL...

Then why is the answer more firepower instead of more toughness? put 3 b17s together, they are almost impossible to be attacked by a fighter (unless you count kamikaze 30mm planes).

the buff thing is the second thing in AH that really screws the game for me (1st being the 38's porkness..which hopefully will be fixed... i hope..i hope..)

buffs are so easy to kill.

too easy... look at how they fair in scenarios.

even in the ma they are easy kills

vs buffs ive come up with so many easy kills:

b-17g:  41/0
b-26b:  21/1
ar234:  2/0
c-47 :   27/0
il2. :    26/0
ju88 :   13/0
lanc :   30/2 (because I flew up their 6 i died twice)
tbm3 :   11/0

buffs are so easy to kill its sick.

TAC:
Turbolasers are a myth.
Please read my post:
"The 50 cal. Buff Gun Laser Myth, Part 2: Ballistics and Energy"

Also, fighters flew in formations as well.  Almost always at least in pairs, generally in relatively large numbers.
How can you expect all bombers to group up when their numbers are already significantly less than that of fighters, and fighters in AH generally do not fly in formations?
If you can't take down bombers in AH, then why don't YOU get a wingman?

Adds to stringer, leaves bait on hook and drops back in the water

To further Fester's point:
From Tour 19, The overall K/D of each bomber:

Ar 234 - 0.2793
B-17G - 0.7138
B-26B - 0.6268
Il-2 - 0.5882
Ju 88 - 0.2500
Lancaster III - 0.3958
TBM-3 - 0.1814

"If you can't take down bombers in AH, then why don't YOU get a wingman"

Why dont buffs GET a wingman or 2 of their own too? That was THEIR only means of defense IRL. Buffs have received a gameplay concession that does not fit imo. Give them more hit points or something, not more firepower.

I HO things in my 38's 4 .50's (AND 1 20mm cannon!) and have to land a toejamload of hits before I get a kill. I fire my nose turret in b17 vs a fighter when IT ho's me and it dies in a snap.

Say whatever u want, what I experience does not match at ALL. BTW, I always try to attack buffs from hi angles at hi speeds. I really dont know why buff guns hit so exponentially hard when compared to a fighter's .50's. Convergence? shotgun effect? all guns firing at same spot? Fighter damage model screwed up? Hell if I know, I just know it happens.

Tac,

Have you ever flown Buffs in formantion in AH?  Have you seen what happens to that formation when you have to man the guns?

The formation disappears and you rapidly end up with a bunch of Buffs that can't support each other.

Without either a true Otto manning the guns or a formation command the formation concept will not work in AH.

Easier?!?!?

Make them harder to kill... or add auto guns at least, and ability to accept multiple gunners

Yes I have Karnak. The formation breaks up because the players either use the rudders while in turrets OR they did not line up or match speeds with his buddies first. I have also seen players up AND stay in formations... it is very exciting to see buffs in groups FOR A CHANGE. The annoying part is each one has turbolaser effect, making the formation *quite* invulnerable. And get them at 28k or higher, untouchable.

Tac,

Hmm.

I remember trying it.  I lined up as best I could and did not use rudder (didn't even know that you could at that time) and the formation drifted apart pretty quick. The other bombers didn't pitch or yaw either, so I don't think that they were using rudder either.

I don't think buffs should be made easier
to kill for a lone fighter that approaches
from the 6 o clock position as seems quite
common. Apart from lightly armed bombers such
as the Ju88 approaching like that _should_
be very dangerous. Currently I've had
fighters attack me in a B26 and come in low
and weaving so it is hard to keep track of
them between the two low waist positions.
In those situations without a separate
gunner and pilot a lone bomber is easy to
shoot down. If a lone fighter took on 4
B26s, though, it should be shot down easily.

Personally I think the problem is impatience.
It takes a lot of messing around to get the
right angle to safely strafe a bomber, and
it is less effort to approach directly from
6 o clock. It's just more likely to get you
shot down. Since being shot down isn't that
bad in a flight sim people are prepared to
do it.

I would rather see the ability for a player to control a flight of say, four bombers. I am tired of the dogfighting bombers. I would rather see their maneuverability limited during daylight. Then make the buff pilots use a feature where the lead bomber controls the flight (Sort of a new 'join formation' command) and the pilots of the other three buffs just gun, just as they really did (tactics wise) in standard box formations. At the same time, use a realistic blast radius on the bombs and reduce the LGB accuracy from 20K. This offers more incentive to use the bombers as they were actually used and makes them carpet bomb to knock out installations. Now, I say make them only do this during the day, since night tactics were different. From the time the sunsets, until it comes up, I would leave them as maneuverable as they are now, because they typically flew in a trail formation and downward spirals were typical defensive maneuvers at night. For clarification, this would only apply to those bombers with mulitple gunner positions which were typically used for level bombing. It wouldn't apply to the Mossie or AR-234 for obvious reasons. I also might make it so that bombers get their maneuverability 'back' below 5k AGL JIC they are flying NOE missions (i.e.-B-26, B-25).
