Title: Pleasre remove the fleets from the BoB setup.
Post by: thrila on August 04, 2002, 12:28:19 PM
It's just plain annoying leaving the coast and coming up against a flak barrage.   I got a direct hit on me when enagaged with 2 109's-  i thought i got bounced good and proper until they told me flak got me.

Actually, the fleets are part of the terrain and technically can't be removed.  The only option would be for me to turn off the ability for any player to control the fleets, then jump them to a corner out of the way.  I'm reluctant to do this, as I believe naval forces have their place in this set up.  I have the fleet respawn time set at a couple of hours, if I recall correctly, and have the ground-fire leathality set to 70%.  These two settings are to encourage people to be more careful with the fleets, and to make the flak less leathal.  Nonetheless, sometimes the flak gets lucky.

I second that request for historical reasons.

During the short time I spent in the combat theatre this evening I was hit twice by Flak over the coast of England, Once while in the landing pattern. This not only spoils the atmosphere of a Battle of Britain set up, but is also entirely fictitious.

At no time during the Battle of Britain, or at any other time during WWII did German Flak pose a threat to British aircraft off the coast of England. German ships were not a hazard to aircraft during the Battle of Britain and were never used in that manner. Particularly because the Royal Navy had complete superiority, due to the fact that by 1940 the German Navy had already lost a pocket battleship, three cruisers and ten destroyers. It had two battle cruisers under repair after they had been torpedoed and its only two remaining pocket battleships were also under repair. It had only one heavy cruiser, three light cruisers and nine destroyers left and would have not have been foolish enough to sail any of them into the channel. The Royal Navy had five battleships one aircraft carrier, ten cruisers and fifty-seven destroyers in the home waters alone! On the rare occasions that ships ran the gauntlet through the channel, it was always done with fighter escort and at very great risk. At no time during the Battle of Britain did the German Navy pose any threat to the RAF, and certainly did not harass British fighters over the coast of England or the channel… Period.

Placing the fleets in the corners of the map out of harms way sounds like an excellent idea.

"I'm reluctant to do this, as I believe naval forces have their place in this set up. "

Could you elaborate on your belief that naval forces, especialy German naval forces; have a place a battle of Britain set up?

first thing ppl should do entering arena is move all boats in thier country NE or SW and nicely ask the other side to do the same

the flak is still way too accurate, ruins the entire room
