That coffee's just doing it's work.  Grab a newspaper and proceed to the nearest reading room, all will be well.

It works as a great natural laxitive if your traveling...I found that out at the con, one or two cups, I was crawling the ceiling (I rarely drink coffee) then moments later I was sitting on the throne.

lol...so true, so true.

Regularity is an important part of my life...

Wake up, put on the coffee, grab the newspaper, smoke a butt, head for the bathroom with a steaming cup o'java.

coffee will definately affect you as you get older.
it varies from person to person though.

I had to stop for a while and heal the ol' stomach and tubes.
now I'm back to espresso (for now)

all in all I drink a LOT less than I did when I was younger

Dunno Senna. I'm 40 and it seems like the older I get, the stronger my coffee gets.

Been using a French Press lately... It's the absolute best way. :)

"It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion."

The blackest roast, the finest grind, the longest brewing time.

It's all good.

Mentat! :D

Alternative... It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the teeth acquire stains, the stains become a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

My coffee consumption has been the same since before I was 25, that's 23 years for those that are counting. I have 2 of my cups which equal 6 cups according to the pot markings.

Morgoth, have your lips taken on a stain???? Mentat ;)

I didn't say I didn't LIKE it as much anymore...
just that it doesn't like me as much.

just love it in the winter, just before heading outside
hell.. everyday
work, home, lift
it doesn't matter

OK, last week it was 99 degrees one day wiith a heat index of 110 with the humidity. I was walking around a high rise complex with a fresh cup of extra hot expresso (4 shots). That's the definition of a real coffee drinker not the pasty nancy boys that lurch around drinking "frappuchino". Losers.

I've been drinking coffee for 20 years now. I may drink slightly less coffee now but it's probably because I drink better coffee.

No lip stains but the teeth are a bit worse for wear. Getting that taken care of now by a torture technician, I mean, dentist.

Hell, I have to go make a fresh pot now after this post ...

Now you're just talking crazy. A day without multiple cups of coffee is like a day without sunshine :D

Try going to a lighter roasted bean. You could also just drink weaker coffee. That's how my family seems to deal with it as they get older.

You can also get a device that allows you to make concentrated coffee that you just add hot water to when you want a cup. I worked with a guy that did that and he made great coffee.

What, do you think I'm a philistine that I wouldn't recognize a french press? :D
Nope, that ain't it. I have one just like it tho  :)

I think the thing this guy had worked something like expresso does: a massive amount of coffee and a smaller amount of water. And it was an electric appliance like a coffee maker.

I'll see if I can find something on the web like it and post it here. Hell, I'll buy one myself. I've wanted one for 4 years now (since that guy hooked me up with his evil brew).

No offense intended. I know a lot of philistines that don't know what a french press is. :D

Coffee:
Fill a 5 quart pot with 4 quarts of water throw in the shells of the four eggs that you will have for breakfast and bring it to a rolling boil.  Poor in two cups hand ground medium roast beans and a half cup of chicory.  Bring back to a simmer and and enjoy the smells that fill the kitchen while you finish breakfast. When nothing is floating, 30 minutes is about right, smirk at the cream and sugar, dip your cup and enjoy.  If your a wuss strain it. If it takes more than one pot to get you through the day simmer it longer.

Damn Mr. Bill, between the sausage gravy made with fresh skimmed cream to the way you make coffee I could spend a week or two in Taos if you were doing the cooking.

OK, here's some preliminary results:

Dan's Cold Brew (http://www.povertybay.com/dans.asp) and a couple snips from their page:
Quote
Dan's Cold Brew is the newest, most exciting coffee product on the market today. It is a cold coffee concentrate produced from freshly roasted gourmet coffee beans. The coffee is cold brewed using a cold water brewing process developed and perfected by Poverty Bay Coffee Company. There are no additives or preservatives. Once roasted, the coffee never again touches heat. Dan's is a pure coffee concentrate.

This product's signature trait is its versatility. While its main use is as a coffee base for iced lattes, mochas, frappachinos, granitas and other specialty iced coffee concoctions, what makes Dan's truly "A Shot of Versatility" is that its use extends beyond an iced coffee drink. To use a little computer jargon, Dan's Cold Brew is a multitasker. Drink it hot. Use it in desserts. Use it in sauces. Drink it strait. Drink it in a latte. Add a little Amaretto. Dan's Cold Brew meets the versatility test.

Of interest regarding senna's complaint of stomach probs is: All the caffeine with less than half the acids.

Up next we have Toddy Coffee Maker (http://www.toddycoffee.com/index.htm). I'm pretty sure this is what the guy that hooked me up with the cold concentrate before was using. Here's a pertinent snip:
Quote
Doctors recommend Toddy Coffee for sensitive stomachs. Cold water brewing extracts the desirable flavor elements, but leaves behind many of the undesirable acids found in hot brewed coffee. Independent lab tests show hot brewed coffee has 3 to 4 times more acid than cold brewed coffee. Cold brewed coffee tastes smoother and is easier on the stomach. Doctors have recommended Toddy coffee to their patients who are sensitive to the acid in hot brewed coffee.

The coffee maker itself is US$30. Info on replacement filters etc. is on their Order on-Line page.

Lastly, some inspiration:

Toddy Coffee Liqueur... For 16 Servings
1-cup Toddy Coffee Concentrate
1-cup 190 proof grain alcohol (vodka may be substituted)
3/4-cup filtered honey
1/4-cup water
Combine all ingredients, stir well.

Of course, I live in a roadkill conservative state that doesn't even sell grain alcohol anymore after some idiot college kids drank themselves to death on it about 15 years ago. Great way to clean out the gene pool if you ask me but I digress.

Quad-shot cappuchino here I come!!

Nope, it was a mode of walking with your arms pressed tightly to your sides because you're too uncouth and non-hygenic to shave your pits and use deodorant. It isn't an accident that some of the best perfume comes from France :D

That thing you call a "French Press" would never be seen in France, or the owner would be shot :)

The only place where I had to drink coffee outa that was in UK, and it was disgusting! Get a real expresso machine, or an Italian Cafetiera.

My coffe's usualy so thick my spoon nearly stands straight in it :D

Cool, then the cold brewing should be perfect. All the strength, half the acid to make your stomach do less flip flops.

4-6 cups every day. No milk, no cream, no sugar. Just coffee. And none of that pansyassed cafe au lait, or moccachino or freppachino or whatever they call it. I mean whats with that? If you dont want your coffee black, go buy a soda or something.

Coffee tastes like straight up ass.

I only drink a 20Oz cup in the morning to get me moving, both mentally, physically, and bowellically (yeah- it's a word now!).

It's some awful cafeteria coffee too, frappacino, espressos, all them wierd expressions for coffee are for guys who flick their wrists and have a real bad lisp.

A Iranian engineer that I work with turned me onto  Green tea...a few years back, I gave up coffee for it.  Of course, when I go hunting in the fall with my buddies, I don't bring my green tea with me..I might be shot.

Elf: If you ski come in the winter, Walker Peak, 14000 feet, is about 45 minutes away. If you like river rafting, hiking et el the Rio Grande is 30 minutes away. If you like bungee jumping the gorge bridge is 600 odd feet above the river. hehehe :D

senna: The egg shells (being pure calcium) absorbs a lot of the acid. The chicory smoothes out a lot of the bitterness.  Warm coffee grounds give a whole new dimension to "a chaw". :)

Cold brewed coffee was a Inca drink before the Spanish showed up and has always been available in South America.

Dad always said "If I wanted a cup of cream and sugar I wouldn't have ordered coffee"
