Yes, the official word from both the U.S. and the Saudis is that the relationship has never been better. What a load of crap!
Most Saudis hate us now. I remember that Time Magazine did a story on the attitudes of Saudis shortly after Sept. 11. Many, if not most, of the ordinary Saudis they approached expressed admiration for Osama Bin Ladin and the Sept. 11 attacks and expressed hatred for the U.S.
Most of the Sept. 11 hijackers were from Saudi and it is clear that Saudis make up the largest percentage (in terms of nationality) of known Al Qaeda members. Islamic extremism is running rampant there. The Saudis finance, supply, provide manpower for and otherwise support terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda who are dedicated to the destruction of America. Crown Prince Abdullah and the other Saudis running the show just keep turning a blind eye to it.
We have no use for an "ally" who stabs us in the back. To hell with them! It's time to tell the Saudis to "stick it where the sun don't shine." Let's buy our oil from Russia and let the Saudis go back to herding camels for a living!:D

I pretty much agree Hogboy. Islamic extremism is running rampant all over the Middle East. But there might be some good reasons for maintaining a working relationship with the Saudis...

I'll pay an extra dollar a gallon of gas for a year if it destroys the Saudi economy and sends those ungrateful scumbags back to the stone age, which they're not far from to begin with. I agree, we need to find our oil anywhere besides the middle east.

While I concur with Goth, there also is the issue of the 5 AWACS they have. The base that Reagan put in Dhahran (?) for the sum of $300billion dollars.
Problem is the gov't won't look elsewhere. I say to hell with the middle east as a whole. Israel included. Let em kill themselves into extinction. They would too

I am pretty sure that they only want to do so because we are interfering in their internal affairs - like supporting their monarchy. If we just left them alone to rot or topple their monarchy and build true muslim state a-la Afghanistan - driving it into the stone age in the process - who cares.

So you are willing to sacrifice a one time sum of what $1000? $2000? To save our democracy from ruin - not at the hands of terrorists but at the hands of our own government fighting terrorism? How generous...
I will rase you. How about introducing fuel tax as to drive the price at the pump to $5/gallon - current European levels? Heck - aren't we better than pesky europeans - make it $8 gallon - forever. Not a huge price to pay to ensure that our most vital supply - energy - does not depend on the goodwill of our enemies and our politicians do not have an excuse to interfere with homicidal maniacs and our technology is not held back.
Plus I will make sure my children enlist into US military for a term before they go on to their illustrious careers.

I second that - just let reasonable people there immigrate to US first - 4-5 million of israelis and palestinians.

That is dumb. What will they conflict about? Will palestinians try to remove a neighbouring jew from Israel? But that jew is already in US and out of Israel - as well as palestinian himself is out of Palestine.
Plenty of jews and palestinians live here and do not display a slightest hostility towards each other.
I guess you skipped that "reasonable" in my post - or do not know what it means...

Saudi Arabia is the most pathetic country on Earth. I have traveled there often. When you arrive in Riyadh customs officials make you sign a declaration stating that if you get caught w/ drugs then they be-head you. That’s ok-if it was equal for all but an American, European, or Saudi would just get a short jail sentence-a TCN (third country national) would get executed with-in the week. Also, Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that has no Church…officially anyway. Christian TCN's are persecuted unmercifully. In fact, when I was there last some Philippino men where caught setting up a Christmas Mass. They were sentenced by a court to be executed for that. The Capital of Islam is Saudi Arabia…a backwards country that is the center of a backwards religion that should be stamped out once and for all.

Which is why I will NEVER travel to the Middle East, not even to see Israel. I will NOT slam ANY religion, that is not right. I'm catholic, don't care what other people think. But, everyone on this earth has the right to believe in religion, and if they don't, that is their right as well.

Thanks miko...and for your information, I served 3 years active duty with the military during the cold war, and another 9 years in the National Guard where I have had the opportunity to go to the Middle East. I believe that my continued support of our great nation has been expressed by my actions and pocket book. And since you have decided to raise the stakes, yes, I will pay $5 dollars a gallon to get rid of the flea ridden scumbag middle easterners.
Yeah, I'm hot over this subject. I have never met a bigger bag of traitorous, deceiving, back stabbing, pieces of dung than what comes from that desolate part of the world. I am almost to the point where I would support genocide. I would wholeheartedly cheer if they just wiped each other off the face of the earth just like they did over 9/11.

When I started seeing Anti-US demonstrations on TV going on in Kuwait, that made me shake my head. As a regualr Discovery Wings viewer, I've seen the Gulf War documentaries over and over again, and how they couldnt thank us enough for liberating their sorry asses. And this is the thanks we get.
Part of me (evil Paul) says launch the military, invade, and make Saudi the 52 (53rd?) state. Wipe em out, cya bye! What are they worried about, in 20 years, they'll be the minority there and with our government's politically correct ways, get free college and foodstamps galore :D Heck, maybe we'll let em open a casino or two at Mecca?
And the other side of me (mild mannered Paul) says fine, screw em. I think it should be pointed out they need us more than we need them. And the environmentalist, who drive amazingly unefficient VW beetles, SUVs and motor homes, should live their own doctorine. THey want us to drive more fuel effient vehicles and demand companies make them? Fine, go set the example. You want em, buy em. Let's go search for alternate energy on our soil. What? We cant? Might upset a elk? Well that 20 year old VW van those tree huggers are driving around aint efficient either! Point is, we rely on these jerks because we force ourselves to. This "not in my backyard" attitude, and "you should drive/make this [but dont you dare insist I do]" baloney must stop.
No one would've gave a damn about the mid east and their blood wars had oil not been found there. Now we're dealing with obscenely resource rich nomadic kooks since the big oil of the world is sittig under em. And once its gone, then what do we do?

Let's buy our oil from Russia. It'll give us all the oil we need and give Russia a lot of hard currency it needs to straighten out its economy. Russia is fast becoming a strategic ally, we have more in common with them than the sorry Saudis and they have a common problem with Islamic militants committeing terrorist acts against them.
We do that and Saudi will be one big sandpile full of camel herders in three years!!!!!!!!:p
