Title: Joystick spiking

Hey guys, for some reason even after calibration I am getting joystick and rudder spikes.  I played with my deadband but that didn't work either.

They are tiny spikes but large enough to knock off my autopilot and create a "turbulance affect".

Any ideas?

Is this a USB or gameport stick?  If gameport I highly suggest you junk it and treat yourself to a nice new USB Stick and throttle.  If you are a US citizen your tax rebate will pay for the new Thrustmaster Couger stick and rudder combo soon to be released.(about $450.00 or so)

If it is a USB stick, hmmmmmmmmmm,........good luck :(

99% of my stick and rudder spiking went away when I switched to a complete USB setup.

I'm single, I only got $300 back, so no Cougar for me!   :p   Not that I'm looking for one, I'm happy with my $100 saitek x36 system.

As for the problem...  arch, can you see the spikes in the joystick setup screen (the little graph looking deal on the left side of the screen?)  If so, sliding the deadband all the way to the top doesn't eliminate the spikes in the waves?  Also, make sure you're setting deadband on the correct axis (I think you do them all separate, been awhile since I've had to fiddle with mine.)

I have same problem here
I have thrustmaster TopGun in game port on my sound card (yamaha 744).. BUT those spikes are much less in W2K that in w98
in w2k arent able to kill autopilot

Guys, "deadband" will only deal with issues in the center of the joystick. IE it's used to set where the joystick starts reading input.

Try setting some "damper" up on the axis with spikes & see if that doesn't help.

Pots that are spiking can sometimes be helped by a through cleaning. Best long term fix is to replace the pots, or go with a new stick.

Ever since I installed the lastest sound driver ( I have SoundBlaster16 ) my joystick been spiking.

I got to wipe my computer anyway so when I reinstall everything I'm not going to install latest sound driver.

If problem goes away I'll come back and post here.

Since you guys are talking about joysticks, someone please tell me if I should go with a Microsoft Forcefeedback flightstick or if I should go with a saitek X36, which has no forcefeedback, but does have a cool flight stick.  

Which is better for Aces High?

open the stick, CLEAN the stick. more than half of the spiking is caused by the crap that went inside.

Saitek X36 is excellent,however Saitek is to soon release a new varient of the X36 that will be improved.  I would wait another month before making a decision regarding Saitek product to see the new X45 or whatever they call it.
