Hi, installed and set up AH last weekend.
Never played on-line but played some WWII sims before.
With this experience taking off and flying wasn't too difficult and shooting down drones was easy.
But, all the info w.r.t flying and fighting, radio, maps, squads etc. etc. makes me quite a bit overawed. I would like to get some help (I'm based in the Netherlands), but there's nothing to do in the training area! And with my inexperience I might do all sorts of stupid things and I don't want people yelling at me.
I tried the main arena (and got shot down all the time of course), but at least I managed to hit a few people and got my first kill.
Still I would like some help, any volunteers? A page with relative strengths of aircraft would also be appreciated.
Cheers,
Ronald

is a terrific site for plane comparisons. Use the java table at the bottom of the page to compare the speed and climb rate of AH's planes.
Once online there is a new trainer feature that will provide 1 on 1 help.

hogenbor,
did you select the personal trainer option when you first entered AH? If you did, you should be getting contacted by the trainers. If not, pop your head into the training room and ask politely on the main channel if any trainers are there and if they will help you. More information regarding the HTC's training is here (http://www.hitechcreations.com/helphom.html)
Second option is to ask politely in the MA using first your country radio and then channel 1.
If you catch me online, just send me a message and I will answer questions to the best of my ability.

Welcome,stick with us,you're gonna have a great time :)
And what ^ they said :)

Hi dfl8rms,
Yes, I selected the personal trainer option. Thanks for wanting to help me out! But I feel that just trying to fight and get shot down like a rabid canary is quite a lot of fun already. But you'll probably see me in the trainig area.
Yesterday I was in the main area and had a lot of fun. Nothing teaches you more than climbing way too high and crash an overspeeding 109 straight into the ground after an attempt to pick someone off in a furball. However, on the second attempt when I was just autopiloting to a field where there was some action, I saw an A20 attacking my base. I chased it to very low altitude and had the time of my life following his evasive maneuvers and keeping out of range of his turret. And I even managed to get some 30mm rounds into it *g*. BOOM!
Was shaking like a leaf when I 'landed' my 109, long ago when I felt this much adrenaline ;-) Not bad, for just a game.

This is by far a very comprehensive site about learning to fly in AH give it a look .
www.netaces.org (http://www.netaces.org)
You wont be disappointed.
P.s, the " K " key is elevator up trim cut your throttle and hold that down it will pull most of the planes out of a compressed dive :) hit the X key to reset it quickly or use the " I" key to trim it back down .

Thank you, thank you
Found some great article on trim (you know who you are)
Just logged off, got 5 kills today! Even one in a FM2!
My kill ratio is now 0.25, I don't think too bad for four days of playing.
I asked on the main how to look at the fuel on a FW-190, little did I know that I could use page down... and yes, of course I did read the manual, how could I ever log on, map my stick, use the radio, drop bombs, choose fiels, use radar?!? It's too much to take it all in in one go you know. But thanks to the guy who told me how, I had enough fuel left to stay in the fight, knock down a F4U and land the kill *proud*.
Do I sound like an excited child? I FEEL like one!
This game is getting better by the day, how much I obviously still suck ;-)

just out of curiousity, do you play with your virus scanner running in the background, the few times i engaged you today, you had little cyclic warp-skips that, to me, usually indicate some kind of interference (program running in background). if so, you might want to disbale that while you're playing, you'll benefit from it as well.
welcome, and hang in there.
-
Actually no, I shut down everything else. Saw some people warping, but not too bad really, didn't bother me when I was dog-dying (fighting is too much honour for what I'm doing at the moment ;-) )
I have cable and good speed and ping, so I don't now where the 'cyclic warps' come from... what are 'cyclic warps' anyway?
Any help on improving this is appreciated. but I don't seem to have problems myself.
And d*mn that Spit last night!
