I have been considering a dive into the RC world but have stopped short for a couple reasons. First, I am a scale nutt but I am not the building type. I know ARF's have gotten better but does anybody have any good compaines in mind that produce accurate ARF warbirds. Also, everybody says I must work my way up to the Warbirds...that means a year or so on crappy "stick-like" trainers. Boring.......is that really true???? Oh ya, is it really fun-the RC thing-you know just flying in circles all day????

Not for the amature or timid flyers very very expensive too, but man are they some awesome looking machines!

28sweep... pay a visit to a local flying club talk to some of the people there.
just cuz its a stick type trainer doesn't mean its boring. I've flown one or two of my dad's stick type planes, and they are by no means boring... I think tryin to get a trainer back on solid ground the first few times will certainly match trying to get your first warbird down in one piece...
The stick planes are typically cheaper and simpler, a good start before you spend big $$ on a scale piece.

Gotta learn the ropes before you can swing through the trees... you really should build a plane or two. ARF's are fine but very vanilla, if you want some flavor your going to have to build it. I'd recomend an "Ugly Stick" for a first build, also I'd stick with either .40 or .60 to start. Tower Hobbies (http://www.towerhobbies.com/) has a great catalog and as far as a manufacture I'd recomend Great Planes. (http://www.greatplanes.com/)

Yes by all means buy an ARF trainer.
The best trainer and one hell of a sport plane afterwards is the Hobbico Avistar ARF. This can teach you to fly and land safely then turn up the control throws and its fully aerobatic, I even hovered and torque rolled mine with an OS46 motor. It's a very fun plane.
As for your comments about flying in circles, well buddy thats pretty much all your warbird type plane will do anyway so better get used to it. :)

Excellent advice.. from all of these gents. Even my good buddy Grun, who's bucket of karma is always in need of adjustment nailed it squarely..

..and short of actually flying a real warbird, there's no thrill quite like piloting a 40 pound warbird model in a fast 150mph pass down thru show center, with a gentle pull up four point climbing roll into pure verticle with the sun glinting off the canopy and wingtips... the powers pulled off, you boot her into a smooth perfectly timed wingover as the 'e' bleeds away.. the time lag delay of the engine rumbling back to full power as you roar back down to show center, kicking her into knife edge as you flash by the crowd... roll inverted and yer brain farts.. yah pull instead push and you slap yer prized pride and joy into the asphalt, creating a thousand lil bits of treasured glass, lumber and aluminum cartwheeling into a spectacular awww-SHIT! (hey; it happens!)
How deep is your desire?? and.. how deep is your wallet?
It's significantly more exciting and boring than a video game, all at the same time. It, like anything else worth doing; defies accurate description.. because it's diffrent for just about everybody that tries it. Suffice to say, you'll feel pretty good the first time you complete a flight.. and mighty awful the first time you auger.
If you seriously try the hobby, I assure you, you will do both.
Every step is accompinied by more difficult challenges, and ever more enjoyable success.. and ever more devastating setbacks. If you don't enjoy risk and challenge, stay away. Take up stamp collecting, 1/72 plastic modeling or HO railroading.
