I wouldn't mind having it, but what purpose would it serve? In WW2, the Catalina's prime job was sub-hunting (we don't have subs), rescue (there's no rescue ops in AH), and long-range scouting (we have land-based bombers for that, and most US fighters can go border-to-border with drop tanks, anyway).

Yes, the Cat would make a great addition as it also served in the role of bomber and torpedo craft. It could serve as a resupply plane, troop transport, etc. Certainly game play could use Amphibians.
Besides, it's blue, slow and cool.

Is that the Martin PBM-5? Just curious.

It'd serve the same purpose as planes like the SBD or Val--it'd be great for scenarios and look cool too :)

I would certainly love to see the catalina, I'd have to put it lower on my own personal wishlist for the PTO planeset. I think the IJN needs a torepdo plane, and the Devastator for the USN. What I'm trying to get at is, we're desperately close to being able to have a full planeset for a Midway scenario. ;)
-
Too true re MIdway, but you know, the Strawberry scouts of Midway fame were PBYs . . .
Kate would be an excellent next plane.

I'm shocked no one else has mentioned it yet, but ya can't have a complete Midway plane set with out some Buffalos to get slaughtered by the Zeros.:D
-
The H8K would be a much better choice for a sea plane than the PBY, it exceaded it's capabalities in every catagory to a point that the H8K would be usefull in the MA, and not a big defensless taget. While the PBY is one of my all time favorate planes I simply can see no earthly reasion to model it when their are so many better canadates in it's class, namely the Coranado and the Emily.

no doubt - the emily was far superior in almost every respect

Well . . .the Emily is my all time favorite Amphib and was possibly the finest such craft of the war. She carried excellent defenses, was rugged and had a good payload (I think 4,000 lbs?). An Emily, capable of taking off from Fleet areas, would be a terrific addition. She could carry bombs, two torpedoes, supplies, etc. The importance of amphibians to such theatres as the Pacific or North Atlantic can't be overstated, but there needs to be a way to make them useful as in bases that are isolated and carry only oddball craft so that they have targets to strike and are not merely meat for the predators, places that--as in the real war--would not be covered continually by Tempests, Spitfires, and P-51s.
Convoys of supply ships that are not identifiable except by aerial reconnaisance might fit the bill. Certainly need a meditterranean style setup wherein shipping and supplies are at such a premium that people are willing to spend hours looking out from their bomb-laden amphibs.
I think there needs to be floatplanes, the H8k, Catalina, Short Sunderland and any one of the several excellent Italian or German torpedoe/scout/bombers (Cant Z506 "Airone"?).
The Buffalo is a sentimental favorite, to be sure, and would make for some nice Finnish Air Force Sceenarios as well as give a nostalgic edge to the PTO. How about some Fokker I think was it D-XXIs for the Dutch East Indies?

Not just fleet areas; enable them anywhere you can launch a PT boat. That gives them a wider applicability, since people wouldn't have to fly from an inconveniently-located port to their target every time.
