when the following conversation occurs (2300 last evening)
Me:
Hey, my internet connection just quit.
Support guy:
Yeah, we are seeing alot of that now, most of your area is down.
Me:
Ok, so when do you expect to have it back up and running.
Support guy:
No idea, not until tomorrow anyway. We dont have anyone working on the problem right now.
Me:
What?
Support guy:
Nope, not after office hours. The problem will probably be fixed tomorrow.
Me:
Are you saying that NO ONE is trying to fix the problem because it is after office hours?
Support guy:
Yeah
Me:
Is this some kind of sick joke?
Support guy:
No
Me:
Ok, thanks for your time (I didnt want to squeak too much on the poor guy, after all, its not his fault)
So I'm sitting on a T1 cable that my ISP has provided to my appartment building. I cant change ISP and still use that cable.
So its either using the T1 cable with a quality of support you would expect in Poland or Belorussia, or going back to a dial up connection...
It pisses me off.

You an owner or a renter?
If an owner then complain to the residents association until whoever had the bright idea of fitting the T1 ups the support contract with the ISP.....or changes to a different ISP. Your ground rent is paying for the line so you the right to complain.
If you're a renter then dont tell the landlord and have an ADSL line installed.

Renter
But the ADSL is 4 times as expensive, and 25% as fast.

At least there was a support guy answering the phone at 2300!
No such luck here.

Really? In Holland (not a million miles away from you) we can get an 8Mb ADSL connection for 80 Eurodollars a month with some new company operating out of Den Haag.
It's just a shame I already signed a 1 year contract with Demon for a 1Mb ADSL conx at 50 Euros a month. :(
