I try to have at least one new dumb idea about AH every day, here's my current one - Commandos!
The idea would be that these guys would be modelled exactly the same as P-Troopers only they would have a "C" icon and when they hit the ground they would run to the nearest building and set off an explosive charge (say equivalent to a 100 lb bomb). After the charge is set off they would disappear.
Imagine the fun of being able to dust an airfield or town OR STRATEGIC TARGET with guys from LVTs, M3s, and C47s who run to the nearest bunkers and buildings and attempt to blow them up.
What say ye?

for me sound's like kamikadze or palestinian terrorist ;)
anyway. idea its not new, couple years ago russian guys implement commandos to his game.
Ju52, or now Li2 /russian c-47+ top gunner/ cane drop commandos near airfield, and he fire from mortar ca 5 min

Good idea Seagoon. Could be a (perked ?) C-47 for special situations... with different weapon option loadouts in the hangar. For example, type .commandoack, and the troops go after the field ack. Or .commandoVH ... taking out the VH and its accompaning ack emplacement. Would sure add an interesting aspect to the game.

Me too man...used to play via 1200 baud modem connection with a friend. But, we could never play any of the modern era wars...nuclear winter would inevitably occur every single game.:D Just too damn tempting not to use.

Yeah I know, but there's no easy way to model a successful egress once the raid is completed, and having them run away towards friendly territory would seem pretty pointless.
The idea is that they got away after their bombs detonated on a timer. How about a floating "and he lived happily ever after message?" ;)
The following is not the idea:
[WORKERS: Look out! The Judean People's Front! The Judean People's Front!...
OTTO: Ve are the Judean People's Front. Crack suicide squad. Suicide squad! Attack!
[drum roll]
J.P.F.: [kill themselves] Uh! Ugh. Aggh...
OTTO: That showed 'em, huh? Oooh.
[whump] ]

I still play C&C Gold, and Red Alert on Westwood chat from time to time. That game was awsome!!

Ninjas !
-
Yes...we need ninja squads to do these missions. Maybe we can roll that great ninja song from that website that Aurelius was subjecting us to at the con. That would be sweet!

make em look british with one of those red beret thingys on their heads!
oh, and as for
for me sound's like kamikadze or palestinian terrorist
what do you think happens to the drunks?;)

LOL... i used to have a 1200 baud modem for my c64. never once got used but we had it.

Nice idea. I think it would work well if/when infantry are added. Each infantryman could carry one or two satchel charges capable of destoying a building. Of course current troop transport vehicles should carry same number of live troops as virtual.
-
hmm, but what could you do in the back of a goon while in transit?
play poker?:D
here's some thing that would be nice, a glider attached to the goon with a selection of jeeps, troops, or a light tank/ISV

-Looks through his pile of CDs- Ahh they are! Command and Conquer, C&C Red Alert, C&C Red Alert Retaleation, C&C Tiberian Sun, and C&C Firestorm. What can I say? I love strat games.
And BRING THE MAMMOTH TANK TO ACES HIGH!!!!!!
-
why?
it'll only be taken out by a p47 *:(* SIGH *:(*
-
The mammoth has a vulcan cannon turret mounted on top of this main turret, plus it has 2 all purpose missle launchers mounted on each side. Would you really like to try and dive bomb something with a vulcan on top? :)

I like the fundamental behind this idea, rather than the idea itself.
At some point, we really gotta have a ground warfare portrayed - being an 'air based' simulation doesn't necessarily mean ground warfare is unimportant. Now, I know the MA isn't exactly WWII, and HTC doesn't claim(nor deny) that the MA is portraying WWII in any sort of way. But as it is, we use vintage WWII fighters, bombers and vehicles in AH, and the only way they are used to its full potential is to have a situation simular to WWII going on. (ex. bombers currently can't find a role because strat does not work in the universal scale it did in WWII)
I'm also aware no MMOG air combat sim game ever portrayed ground warfare in a satisfactory manner, but there's no reason why HTC shouldn't be the first one ever in the market to become a true standard in depicting ground war :)
