Title: Another WWII pilot passes

Got an email from my Dad today. He was born and raised in Scotland and as a kid ive heard many stories of WWII from him. His brother Pete was an RAF ground crew servicing Spits in the War, Dad was to young to join at the time.

The best story told by him was about an Irish pilot (Paddy Finucane) and how the woman use to love this guy. They used to sit around the radio listening to reports from the RAF. I love visiting my relatives oversea's just for the stories alone.

Hi, Drew:
              Another WWII air ace has just passed away at the age of 84
years - John 'Cat's Eyes' Cunningham. Early in the war he used a radar
equipped Beaufighter, and later the Mosquito, to become one of the RAF's
most successful nightfighters - if not the most successful.

I remember a lot of the pilot's names from the war - John Cunningham,
Douglas Bader, Paddy Finucane, Johnnie Johnson, Peter Townsend, etc.. I
think Paddy Finucane was only 21 when he was shot down and killed. That
was a long time ago.

Anyway, that's it for now. Dad.

They called him 'Cat's Eyes' to throw off German intelligence.  He was using early airborne radar to hunt down the enemy, but the British wanted the Germans to think that he just had remarkable night vision.

I have written a snapshot called "Ghosts in the Darkness:Cat's Eyes" I have it finished, but I would like to put up a fancy piece of art, like the other snapshots have and I dont have one.

I met JC a couple of times, he lived just down the road from me.  A truly fantastic person who accomplished much and will be missed by many.

Of course his name was paddy we don’t have any other names. Did you know that no Irish pilots died during the battle of Britain? , Yes, mind you there where only 8, and they probably never seen combat but they did something right. Also a forgotten fact that 50.000 thousand young Irish lads crossed the sea and fought for the Queen voluntarily, well maybe they didn’t do it for the Queen but they did it voluntarily as we where neutral, they didn’t have to fight they could of sat on there arces like my grandpa did so well all those years ago.

Ps. the Luftwaffe bombed Dublin accidentally, how do you bomb accidentally? Several hundred miles off course, we did our best to shoot them down with our spud guns but to no avail.

2nd Ps. there is a giant EIRE sign wrote with stone close to where i live ,so that the luftwaffe would'nt  bomb accidentally.

3rd Ps real legends never die .
