Hi People,
I am one of the unfortunate people that, at the moment, has CTD issues that make AH practically unflyable. I've been in AH since the very start, and I'm trying hard to make AH work again for me, reading what I can about installing updated versions of everything.
The times I have persisted and have asked people online, people comment that many people are having the same problem. But I find that hard to believe. I mean, if the problem is so bad that if, say, 50% of the simmers had this problem, I'd imagine a huge departure of these people from the sim in short order.
I'm still hanging in there, but I'm curious - how many of you are having this problem? If the percentage is 5%, then I can see why the issue is not getting the attention that it deserves. However, if the percentage is much higher, I can't imagine why full resources aren't being put out to squash the dreaded bug - which usually mean that it does in fact get squashed quickly.
Please post, so that we can find the percentage.
I'll cast the first vote - the CTD problem is so bad for me that AH cannot be flown "seriously", and doing more than just flying around alone is suspect to failure.
=Thanks,
=Hedgehog
p.s. Any chance that the bug has been squashed in the past few days, and I just missed it?

My inflight CTD's completly stopped after the last patch.
-
I've crashed from the hangar while selecting loadout options a couple of times but not in the air since the last patch... knock on wood.

I never had them before and I still don't.

I had two CTDs happen in close succession (within 1 hour) since the last patch. No others.
I have had a hard lockup from a tailslide collision with the ground.

I get a fair share of UDP lost messages followed by a "Host connection lost" ISP OK, could surf etc, and I reckon I've had about 5 "Lockups" (Tail slide into the ocean does it everytime). But CTD's Only 1 (Last night) :( was flying along, no one around AFAIK) and suddenly staring at my wallpaper, No GPF, BSOD, No AH in Taskbar or Tasklist... just gone. Restarted AH straight in no more problems

I seem to get CTD's in bursts. I haven't had any for a few days, last it got bad for 1 day and I had 10 pretty fast.
Can I point people to this (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61756) thread in bug reports and particularly the 2 replys from HT and Superfly. I start my film recorder now as soon as I log back in to the MA after a CTD, typically I haven't had 2 CTD's in a row since I posted the thread but I'll keep trying.
I think if we give HTC some REAL hard data on this they might start identifying whats causing this. I'm guessing "waaaaaaa I get loads of CTD's" doesn't help much.

I CTD maybe once every 20 connections. Haven't had the tail/slide bug since it was "squashed".
-
My CTD's have diminished but the screen freeze has started after the last patch.
As to data, I supplied the data regarding my system and the times / circumstances of the CTD's on more than one occasion. The problem is still there. :(

My only 2 CTD were caused by this bug, well, I did have a hard lockup once in an M3 but I've had none since patch #4
-
No CTDs since last patch, 1 tailslide into water freeze (tho I could still kill AH from the task manager).
-
only 1 CTD since patch, occurred chasing a formation of Ki67's on the deck. Reinforced my opinion that the CTD's are related in some way to the new bomber formations.
-
Not a single CTD, lockup or crash since patch 4 was released. Nearly 11 hours of flight in conditions that used to induce computer seizures (around buffs, ships, big dogfights). I had 10 discos in the few days preceding the release of the patch. Happy and disco free now.

i have at least one a day. usually right when im landing after 3 or 4 kills or when i click wrong in the hanger going to the runway. i had em occasionally on previous versions but since the most recent version all patches ive been having them more and more.
-
The last patch took care of 95% of the CTD's.
I think I've only had one CTD since. Had some disco's but those were from my end not AH.
Lotsa switched sessions though.
-
I've had 1 CTD since patch. I only had 1 or 2 before then.
Plus 2 screen lockups.
-
There seems to be quite a few players who do or do not get the CTD's. It also seems like its still happening from what I hear in the MA. Would it be helpful to HT for us to post our system specs. and whether or not we get them? I'm a Marketing Analyst by trade and the data usually doesn't lie. For me my comp. has never crashed in AH. .
There has to be some commonality to the problem. I use a small program that can be pasted into a word document called Belarc Advisor, nice straight from the comp system sheet. I'm sure there are many. Heck send em to me I could give a you detailed spreadsheet / database analyzing system specs of those who do or don't and what they use.
Just a thought, my first AH post
-
Nothing but CTDs since 1.10 came out.
5 minutes logged in is a long time without one.
I've stopped even trying to fly.
Waiting for the next patch...

i get a lot of ctds (55 and counting) and lots of lost udp(this i can blame on my cheap and slow isp).
maybe its my asus a7s333 running a gf4ti4200 with only 300w power.... maybe its my ddr which could be a lemon.
i remember playing AH with my friends intel machines before, no ctd whatsoever but that was AH1.09 i think.
maybe i shouldn't have went athlon, oh well.....

Maybe 1 in 30 connects... It's so little that I don't even bother counting.
However... nothing consistent about the way they occur.

Hi People,
Hey, thank you ALL for replying, and so quickly.
So, I see about 20% of the people are having problems. Really, that's not a super huge percentage, and so I can understand why there hasn't been a real spill over this problem.
In reading some of the posts, the only idea I have for why the problem might be worse for me is that I'm still using Win 98. The hardware is not too bad (1.4 GHz Athlon, rock steady 400W Antec power supply, SDR GeForce video card, and 512 MB RAM), but perhaps its the flakiness of fairly ancient Win 98.
Perhaps it's time to go to XP?
=Thanks people. If you see me in AH, say hi really quickly, as I might be on the desktop at any moment. :)

Still get CTD's even after last patch they have gotten better but I still get them mainly in hangers now selecting ords or planes. Which have accounted for about 25 this tour alone.
-
In patch 4, some Japanese people said they had CTDs when seeing Ki-67 or opening bomb bay doors of it.
Though I don't have these CTDs.
I think their OS was Windows 2K or Windows XP (I know currently AH doesn't support a XP).
BTW, my PC spec is as follows:
Pentium-III 800MHz
512MB RAM
Canopus X20 (GeForce 3)
SoundBlaster Live!
Windows 98

Last patch fixed here as well....:)

Four CDTs since patch, all within ten minutes. No bomber related lockups. I momentary lockup, caused auger.
It's much better, but still needs some code tweaking.
My regards,
Widewing

Thank you again for replying!
I'm not sure how to count some of the new entries, but it looks like we're still at about 20% of the people having major CTD difficulty.
Thank you very much for posting systems. From what I've read, nothing jumps out at me on my side that would be the obvious culprit. I am running behind a Linksys router, but my connects to other places have been solid - more so than using another ISP several months ago. With such a tough problem, you start thinking about everything - like the SB Live!, which has had conflicts in the past, etc.
FYI, I've done what I believe are most of the suggested fixes - swapped my PCI boards around to minimize IRQ sharing, installed latest DirectX, reinstalled AH from scratch (except for settings files and the like).
Clearly, some people are doing the same search as I am, and I'm sure doing a more thorough job, and still see the issues. The culprit will hopefully turn up eventually.
-
No CTD's since patch BUT I've had 6 screen freezes to the point I must power of the pc.
-
Only had one CTD prior to the patch that I recall....they were that infrequent. Now I'm getting 1 to 2 a night with the new patch.
-
My conx has always been 'rock solid' going back to the Beta. But sadly I have had two discos in the last week. I'm not complaining yet. It would take more than that before I get concerned.
-
Can't remember my last ctd / computer freeze. i think it was 2 or 3 patches ago.
-
Roughly 10 hours of online time, I've had 0 CTD's and 1 lock up (while being shot in an M3)
-
Well im stillgetting them too! almost worse after newest patch
if i had to say in a 3-4 hour session ill get at least 1 -2 freezes
and 1-2 CTD.
usuall its when im in a dog fight or just about to JABO so important targets! (arent they all)
but none the less my .02 Cents about my CTD's and freezes

I play two on line games using two different machines. One machine will CTD in both games, the other machine doesn't CTD at all.
Both machines have the same version of DirectX, the CTD box has Win2K pro, the one that works is Win2K server.
I'm not convinced this isn't a DirectX issue, and not an AH (or EQ) problem. Quite a few people in EQ are also having CTD and "Freeze on Sound" issues as well. Exact same symptoms I get in AH.

Since the last patch I have had only a couple - one was in that snapshot with the p40s vs. the 202's (i.e. no bombers around). I seem to be able to attack bomber formations without fear of CTD again.
Almost all my CTD's have also come with an error message - somethign about "Ddhelp". Doesnt crash the computer though, just Aces High. After such an event I can do anything else I want, but run the AH executable until I restart the computer.
It is a bit of a nuisance but no big deal - except in events of course.
-
4 CTD's in 18 hours of flight this month.
Before the patch, I would average 1 CTD a month.
This is bearable though. I've no major complaints at this time.

Can I have you job?? I wish I could play AH at work :)
Seriously, I get about 1 CTD every 2-3 days. For me it's relatively random. There's no single factor that I can pinpoint that causes them. Personally, I think it's a driver/hardware issue as I have my athlon overclocked. I'm going to bring my system back to stock to see what effect it has.

Yes ive been sitting around machining parts alot lately .. so Since im making money ... i can sit in the office on my pc and play/serf/ect ... yes i have one of those great jobs thats fun, has flexable hours, and doesnt pay the best . who really needs work related stress ?
It starting to look like about 20-30% are still having ctd's here . and perhaps we need a chat thread with just those guys posting and figure out what the common thing is here .
could it be the OS / DX8.1 as the common clue ??
I have DX 8.1 verson (4.08.01.0881) on bolth of my pc's
-
sry all chk my stats....
i've had only 2 discos this tour.... both happened as i clicked on the runway for takeoff.
had 9 last tour but that was 7 from the bomber bug where u locked up killin the last buff in a formation.
guess im just lucky :D
-
Earlier I mentioned that I haven't had any DTCs then last night had one after attacking a bomber group, the system locked hard and I had to use the reset button.
Also, I'm currently running 98 SE and this weekend I'm going to be upgrading to 2000. I'll let you know if the lockups increase.
Kuben
-
I had them allot pre patch 4 release.
Last weekend I had none, CTD's seem to be fixed for me with last patch.
Only thing I still have on occasions is total hangup on crashing into the water right at the moment I hit the surface I get a freeze frame, but not always (and that I don't understand). Nothing works anymore in those cases, I have to reboot and restart AH to play again. But this is an old problem that started after the release of 1.08 (for me anyway).
-
100 percent of me had a CTD about three days ago.
On a good note, CTDs have been *almost* non-existent for 100 percent of me since the last patch.
:)
-
before, i flew with 1200res at 2Xfsaa and 50mb of mem is used as displayed in the ctrl-I thingy and i get tons of lockups/ctd/reboots
its now at 1600 res with no fsaa which uses around 30mb and i
flew AH for 2 hours and with just one lockup. it looks like i need more fans for my chitty pc and that hot ti4200.
gonna fly some more to see if i get more lockups
-
I have only begun flying again in AH since the 1.10patch4 version.
So far I have only CTD'ed once but likely have not been flying nearly as much as some of you who experience multiple CTD's in the same day.
What nails me in the rear is at what is usually the most inopportune time my joystick stops working for 5-15 seconds even though my plane continues moving/turning in the direction it was when my joystick controls froze.
My keyboard commands still work at that point and so by initiating autopilot I can save myself (so long as there isn't a bogie on my tale who smiles when I suddenly straighten out for him to shoot my tail off).
-
my ctd's have dropped of tremendously since last patch...
