What's all this crap about there being no fights in Pizzaland? Who says the only battles are against AI objects?
I've just had a blast in the MA/AKpizzland™. With GSofAW I was defending a vehicle field. The fighters kept coming in and we had to keep killing them. The Goon showed up and we shot him but not before he got his troops out, but we killed those too. Then a P38 arrived and shot my turret as well as bombing the VH :( I got the P38, but could no longer defend the field. So I got a P47 up to A125 from whatever the Bish field is to the south of that (can't read the numbers - make the map bigger!) with 2x1000 with a view to duffing their VH to stop an M3 getting out. I shot the VH ack on one pass, and dropped the bombs on the next pass but just missed - only one of the bombs missed. By that time, Spits and Hurris were upping. I had E to zoom to 6K above their field. The cons kindly obliged me by flying to a position directly underneath me  - the best place for a B&Z attack. At least one tried a dweeby vert. pull up for an HO, but oh! In the rarefied air, that doesn't work too well. :D Scratch two hurris and a spit.
And - best of all - not an LA7 in sight, probably because the nearest field was more than 5 minutes away - LOL! And they don't like the rarefied air either, but my Jug seems to love it :) Bit of a handful though.
I figured that I had delayed the fighters sufficiently for our VH to have come back up. GSofAW hand landed his 4 kills in an Ostwind, so I went home.
A great half hour of fun! Pizzaland rocks!!! I love the AK-s!!! :D

well... beetle got three kills in only a half hour! I guess that I will have to rethink everything I have ever said about pizza land being boring....
Ok.. that was easy.. I have to conclude that limeys are simply easily amused and unused to excitement.

I've been experimenting with the terrain editor lately and have to say that lazs' thing about grouping fields closer together definately makes for some good furball action and keeps most of the fights down on the deck.
Of course, there's no variety, it's just endless furballing.
fine for a time but it gets old IMO.

Lazs - you're an intelligent guy, but you need to brush up on your reading and comprehension. If you would reread my post, you will note that I spent the first 15 of those 30 minutes defending the vehicle field in an Ostwind. Got about 4 kills there, plus killed the troops. That was actually more important because it saved us from losing the field.
The P47 sortie totalled about 10-15 minutes. Don't forget, I had to fly to the target area and fly home again - just like they did in WW2. Did you realise that? I botched up killing their VH but it didn't matter in the end. I killed those three cons, and the return flight was about 5 minutes.
To summarise, that was four kills in the Ostwind, plus troops killed (= field saved) plus 3 kills in the P47. I don't give a toss about those stats. The whole point of everything I did in that half hour was to save that vehicle field. (The kills were incidental, but fun) I helped my country keep that field, and derived a sense of satisfaction from that - a difficult concept to convey to a guy who mows his lawns at 5am while the neighbours are trying to sleep.
Seems like a lot of people in this game just want to jump in a plane, get airborne, and shoot something. Furball, furball, furball. I can't for the life of me work out why some people think that's exciting.

I can see where Lazs (and others) would have furballing. Hell I like it sometimes myself and it's a blast.
However, I wouldn't like to do it all the time since I prefer variety as I think do most others.
I get bored just furballing, I also get bored just taking fields or just hunting buffs, etc. VARIETY is the spice.
speaking of variety.. uh.. ne'rmind

I can't for the life of me figure out why you wouldn't.

any map can give you 3 kills in one sortie... sometimes. I would like to see your k/h for the entire time you spend in the pizza map.
wlfgang.. closer fields (only as close as our closest ones are now) do not stop anyone from any other type of action at all. They do however make slower planes more viable. further fields make for late war only fighting. Yes there are exceptions but they are not the norm or even noticiable.

I created some maps for H2h play with close fields and in my admittedly limited test I found that it was furball city.
Obviously it depends on who is playing, when etc.
point is that close fields definately support furballs.
I don't have any 'proof' either way about your statement regarding the strat guys with such a map.
IMO the problem would be if someone tried to roll a buff with any nme bases near they'd never have a chance to gain alt and/or speed.

I think you folks miss the real point .. sure pizza may have some fun during peak hours when AH has 300+ people playing... try it sometime during "late" aussie/kiwi/jap hours .. with 60-100 people in AH it just doesn't work IMHO....
-
Manedew - that scenario I described above was around lunchtime here = late hours Japan/OZ etc., and early morning in the US.
-
yes wlfgang.... exactly! closer fields offer the opportunity for furs and for earlier planes to be viable. there are still many many fields for "strat" guys to up from and the fluffers can gain alt from rear fields. Opportunity for everyone. Even having half the fields of the closer variety and half not would help.

that's the best idea IMO. A mixture of both far and near.

ah yes, I see nothing much has changed. Wlfgng's initial post made interesting reading...

I still fly a Hurricane on the large maps, just need more fuel when you take off. I take a pair of DT's and dump them when I get close to the fight :) The early/mid war planes can still be viable (if fuel isn't porked), just takes longer to get to where you are going.

yep furball... was kiddin with ya in there. I bet you're young tho right? I don't know if it's the stereotype is true or if AH just attracts the fussy ones. Allways fun runnin into you in the arena.
