Title: Famous quotes from movis
Post by: senna on August 23, 2002, 05:13:05 PM
One of my favorite quotes from the movies is:

"Merlin, I must have her!"

Uther Pendragon - Excalubar

But this ties closely with

"The wife and home are not for me"

Arthur Pendragon - Excalubar after pulling excalubar from the rock

Characters say some of the strangest things in movies.

"Eh, eh, I know what you're thinkin' punk: Did he fire six shots or five? To tell you the truth I kinda forgot myself in all this excitement. But being this is a forty-four magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you have to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk?"

Clint Eastwood as Harry Callahan in Dirty Harry (as best as I remember off the top of my head)

Peter Fonda in "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" to Sally Ann Feilds (I think) On seeing a sign outside a bar which said "No potatos, Swearing or Dogs".

Mind you "Oh great they have a cave troll" by Sean Bean" as Boramir in LOTR comes a close second..

Hardly classics I know, but they made me laugh.

Woman: Well how'd you become king then?
[Angelic music plays...]
Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering silmite held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king!
Dennis interrupting: Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony!

 Oh, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you!

Oh but if I went 'round sayin' I was Emperor, just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Otto: Yeah I'm here man.
Duke: The lights are growing dim. I know a life of crime led me to this sorry fate. And yet I blame society. Society made me what I am.
Otto: That's roadkill. You're a white suburban punk, just like me.
Duke: But it still hurts.

"You will give your rifle a girl's name because this is the only popsicle you people are going to get. Your days of finger-banging ol' Mary J. Rottencrotch through her pretty pink panties are over!"

"A rifle is only a tool. It's a hard heart that kills. If your killer instincts are not clean and strong you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead Marines. And then you will be in a world of toejam. Because Marines are not allowed to die without permission! Do you maggots understand?"

"There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on cupcakes, kikes, wops or greasers. Here, you are all equally worthless. "

"God has a hard on for Marines, because we kill everything we see. He plays His games, we play ours. To show our appreciation for so much power, we keep heaven packed with fresh souls. God was here before the marine corps, so you can give your heart to Jesus, but your bellybutton belongs to the corps!"

"Holy dog toejam! Texas? Only steers and queers come from Texas, Private Cowboy. And you don't look much like a steer to me so that kinda narrows it down. Do you suck dicks?"

"This is my rifle. There are many like it but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my rifle and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of my enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen."

And the best one

"Are you quitting on me?! Well, are you?! Then quit, you slimy diddlying walrus-looking piece of toejam! Get the diddly off of my obstacle! Get the diddly down off of my obstacle! Now! Move it! I'm going to rip your balls off, so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world! I will motivate you, Private Pyle, if it short-dicks every cannibal on the Congo!"

There are several quotes in Sergeant York that I have thought were especially moving or poignant;

"I ainta goin!  I ainta goin to war!  War is killin...an the Book's agin killin!"

"Ma...what air they'a fightin' fer?"
"I don't rightly know chile.  I don't rightly know."

"I done thought about it Mr. Hull.  I aint proud of what I done over there.  A lot of us died doin' what we hadda do.  The way I figure...something like that aint for sale."

"How many did you kill York?"
York (pained expression) "I don't rightly know sir."

Why shouldn't I work for the N.S.A.? That's a tough one, but I'll give it a shot. Say I'm working at N.S.A. Somebody puts a code on my desk, something nobody else can break. So I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I'm real happy with myself, 'cause I did my job well. But maybe that code was the location of some rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East. Once they have that location, they bomb the village where the rebels were hiding and fifteen hundred people I never had a problem with get killed. Now the politicians are sayin', "Send in the marines to secure the area" 'cause they don't give a toejam. It won't be their kid over there, gettin' shot. Just like it wasn't them when their number was called, 'cause they were pullin' a tour in the National Guard. It'll be some guy from Southie takin' shrapnel in the ass. And he comes home to find that the plant he used to work at got exported to the country he just got back from. And the guy who put the shrapnel in his bellybutton got his old job, 'cause he'll work for fifteen cents a day and no bathroom breaks. Meanwhile my buddy from Southie realizes the only reason he was over there was so we could install a government that would sell us oil at a good price. And of course the oil companies used the skirmish to scare up oil prices so they could turn a quick buck. A cute little ancillary benefit for them but it ain't helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon. And naturally they're takin' their sweet time bringin' the oil back, and maybe even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who likes to drink martinis and play slalom with the icebergs, and it ain't too long 'til he hits one, spills the oil and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic. So my buddy's out of work and he can't afford to drive, so he's got to walk to the job interviews, which sucks 'cause the schrapnel in his bellybutton is givin' him chronic hemorroids. And meanwhile he's starvin' 'cause every time he tries to get a bite to eat the only blue plate special they're servin' is North Atlantic scrod with Quaker State. So what do I think? I'm holdin' out for somethin' better. Why not just shoot my buddy, take his job and give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I could be elected president.

Well since Bill took my absolute favorite...

"Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead!

In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;

But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;

Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favor'd rage;

Then lend the eye a terrible aspect". (III,i)

Yeah, it was a movie too!

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers:
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England, now a-bed,
Shall think themselves accurs'd,
They were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap,
Whiles any speaks that fought with us upon
Saint Crispins day.
