Was watching Jaws last night and when I saw what's his face at the end being eaten by Jaws, it came to me, is this the best death scene in a movie?
Or Mel Gibson in Braveheart.
Your opinions?

The guy drowning under the log in "Sometimes a Great Notion"
That scene as stuck in my mind for years.
-
BRAVEHEART.....all i have to say about that is....ouch
-
...that dude who gets chased off a cliff by a herd of topless dames in The Meaning of Life
-
Spock in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn
"You have always been... and will always be... my friend..."
:D:D:D
Daniel, aka Cyrano
PS: Coming to think of it, perhaps the fat guy in Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life". Gives "growse" a whole new dimension to the word. :D
-
"The Wild Bunch".... all of em but the last scene was the best.

Braveheart is the obvious choice, here are a few others:
Comodus in Gladiator (I get so happy to see him die)
Dafoe's character in Platoon, probably one of the most haunting scenes in Hollywood history.
Boromir in Fellowship of The Ring.
-
Bonnie and Clyde in, well, you know....
Also Sonny Corleone in the first Godfather
-
The Bring out your dead scene in The Holy Grail .
-
If you want the most overdone death scene:
Al Pachino, Scarface
-Sikboy
-
Any adequate meat puppet in Hamlet.
-
The scene from Saving Private Ryan when that German soldier is slowly driving that bayonet into the American soldier's chest while whispering to him to "shhh". Don't think I'll ever forget that one.
-
Hortlund
Hortlund2
Hortlund3
Maybe not the best death scenes, but entertaining nonetheless.
Cobra
-
Pulp Fiction, when Vincent (John Travolta) stabs Mia (Ulma Thurma) in the chest with a medical needle in order to give her a shot of addrenaline in the heart because she is ODing on heroin. POW! Then she wakes up. Close to death but not quite, close enough though.

I agree. I hate to say it but, IMHO that scene really detracted from the quality of the movie.

Ming the Merciless getting speared by the nose of Flash Gordon's spaceship as Flash crashes a spaceship into Ming's palace during the wedding ceremony. Queen blaring incessantly in the background is a must.

The Lord of the Rings contained three death scenes essential to the story. All were very well done. The "death" of Sauron at the beginning of the movie. The death of Boromir near the end.
But the death that was most beautifully rendered, and which remained true to Tolkien's original mood and intent, was the "death" of Gandalf on the Bridge of Khazadum.
"Fly you fools!"
Aragorn's lament: "Farewell Gandalf!" he cried. "Did I not say to you: if you pass the doors of Moria, beware? Alas that I spoke true! What hope have we without you?"

Leon - The bit where he shuts the grenade pin in Gary Oldmans hand just before he dies.
Also 'The Bridge of Death' scene from Holy Grail
Gatso

Edward G Robinson "Little Caesar" May not be the best but ranks right up there with the longest.
Cagney in "White Heat"
"Top of the world Ma"
-
I agree the SPR knifing scene is disturbing...
I know this movie was a bit arcadish but it had some wild parts like the laser beam(s) scene in Resident Evil. Plus some other scenes as well.
-
Definately Dafoe's character in Platoon.
-
Comon guys...
Flight of the Intruder, Dafoe...
"Sandy low lead, sandy low lead, lay it in on me man, I'd do it for you"
I cry every time I see that scene

The McGruder film
-
I knew it. :D
Conspiracy theory.

that guy mooning the English in Braveheart and gets an arrow in his arse.

But how can you forget the the last scene of Reservoir Dogs?
Btw, who DOES shoot Nice Guy Eddie, was it Mr. Pink?
And my favourite scene in From Dusk Till Dawn is the liquer store

Eastwoods "Unforgiven"
The kid gut shot by Morgan Freeman with that absurd spencer.. and of course, when Gene Hackman gets it.. along with everybody else in the bar.
-
Gotta vote for one of two:
1) Marvin's Head getting blown off in the back of the car in Pulp Fiction.
2) Leon The Professional and his grenade to Gary Oldman.
Jason

The baby getting run down in road warrior.
-
That Russian soldier in Chechniya. Very realistic movie..... :(
-
i thought The Duke in "The Shootist" was all around best one i have seen .
and there was a movie called "The Razors Edge" with Bill Murry in a way the whole movie was a death scene and a damn good one. but i think im the only one who saw it on the planet.
But the best was Stacy Keech in "The Ninth Configuration" bar none.
-
The scene in Gattica where Jerome climbs into the incenerator, puts on his Olympic medal for swimming (he became paralysed from the waist down in a diving accident), and burns himself alive as the camera switches back and forth to Vincent launching into space aboard a rocket.
-
Vito Corleone(Robert Denero) kills "The Don" after telling him his father's name in "The Godfather II"...That was one hell of a sharpe knife..
-
The only time I'll agree with Lazs, 'The Wild Bunch' is the best.
-
The "Russian Roulette" scene in the Deer Hunter. THAT was disturbing.

Yep :(
I don't to play the "pére la morale*" but I don't figure how a death can be qualified as "best" even in a film .
Disturbing yes ... best ... no.
*sorry I don't know an English equivalent
