What car would it be. Can be anything, street, bus, truck, race car, anything you want. Cars say alot about the person who owns them though most people cant afford to buy the type of car they really want so they spend their hard earned dollars on whats available to them or what they can get.
For me, it would be this :) My dream car Ferrari GTO Evolution
PS: GTO means Grand Turismo Omalagato (spelling) in Italian ;)

hummer, then I could own the roads Mad Max style!!!

How long do you think it'll be before people start posting pics of their own cars here in your thread? They just won't be able to resist... it's just soooo predictable isn't it?!:D
Anyhoo, thats a nice pony pic you got there; here's the ride I would love to have; the Ferrari F-50 (no longer in production though)

Hum I see you guys have a touch more class than I do. Nice Ferraris you guys chose.
BTW: That GTO Evo that I choose, it doesnt even have a door handle. It only has a rope that you pull on to release the latch that fastens the door. HAHAHA.

Ford GT90.....quite possibly the best car to ever be made by Ford.
-
Give me an '88 Taurus with 150,000 miles. ;)
-
After I thought about it for a while...i changed my mind. Now I would have to go with the McLaren F1.

The ORIGINAL GT40 is THE best ever by FORD, anywhoo.
Just give me a Porsche 959, we'll call it even.

"The Durango-95 purred away real horrorshow – a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. Soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark. We fillied around for a while with other travelers of the night, playing hogs of the road."

lol Animal...
Real horrorshow.
Dream Car - Bentley. But, my father already has one (as of June, this year)....I just need him to put me on the insurance coverage...and need to fly to the UK to drive it.

Anyone got $140,000 in spare change for me? (Yes, I know, it *lists* for $118,000, but try to buy one for that from a dealer!)

Rip, Dinon Z8? Sweet ride boy! :D

probly some one of a kind multi million dollar concours winner... take your pick... there are a bunch of em..
If I had to drive it? I would build it. I sure wouldn't build one that looked like a plastic model car that got left in the oven till it melted a little tho.. Probly need to build two cars tho... one closed car and one roadster (not convertable, roadster).

After a very long thought, I would get this, and proceed to kill myself on the Nordschleife;)

I would DEFINATELY go for the Shelby.. ooooooooooo
Big bellybutton engine
make it a convertible though
nothing, I mean nothing, sounds as good as that engine !

Unlike some of you guys with unrealistic, lustful desires for flashy, big dollar super cars, MY needs are simple.
AMC Javelin...or the ultimate expression of that particular pony-car, the AMX. Dark navy blue in color.
Or a two seat British sports car...such as a Triumph Spitfire or something similar. A real classic.

Actually, "Dinan'izing" a Z8 would lower its value since they're all hand built by 4 guys, and limited production, and the fact that you have a 2 year waiting list...nope, just stock. This is a remake of their 1955 507. If you love fine, rare things, the Z8 is the automotive equivalent of a Gutenberg bible.

My dream car is a 68 GTO, like the one I own.
BUT, the dream GTO would be a 68 Ram air 2 GTO.
The ram air 2 was the first year for the round port heads.
stock HP rating was 366HP. With a few mods back in the day it would easily make 450 horsepower. (this is the same motor as the Ram Air 4 for 69)
It would have to have an M22 rock crusher and 3.90 or 4.56 gears and limited slip.
It would be red with a black interior, with RAM AIRII on the hood scoops!
If you can find one they sell for more then 50 grand in restored condition, and since they run 10.75 to 1 compression, you need race gas....
But it would be HELLA fun!(http://users.erols.com/eric21981/pics/68gto.gif)
-
Surprised no ones mentioned the 1970 Plymouth Superbird, 460 Hemi(edit: "426 Hemi), 500 Hp with 514 lbs. of torque...the car that made Richard Petty jump off the Ford bandwagon and into the Plymouth ring...

As the saying goes...MOPOWER!

Rip,
Wasn't it a 426 hemi? They came with dual 4 barrel carbs?
Lol a car so big you can't put it in a normal garage.
In the same parking lot I met Laz2, when I sold him the tranny, I saw one and went talked to the owner. lol it was a once a quarter car! (he drove it once overy three months)
It was very nice, bright yellow.
-
I'd have to flip a coin between the Ferrari "Enzo" and the Porsche CarreraGT.

I secretly want one of these again...
Had an 84 with a V8 and a 700R4 tranny.
I loved it, even though it was beat up, I could strech out on the back seat and sleep. I had a huge amount of fun wheeling it, it had 32 in BFG muds on it and it was brown with dirt most of the time!
Oh man and taking it to Pismo beach was great!
-
Hmm, now you got me thinking, as a second vehicle if gold bags fell in my lap, I'd go with a Hummer (not a newer one though, I don't like the newer ones) A Z8 would be tough on a rutted road at 7,000 ft. in the Gravely mountain range of SW Montana :D
-
Hummers are cool.
Only prob is they are so wide, they don't fit on some trails.... lol well not without denting stuff.
-
Anyone have $400,000?
If so, I'll take one of these...
-
yes sir ripsnort! i would give my left nut for one of these cars!
Btw it is a little known fact that the wind on the back of the 'bird was that high just so you could open the trunk.

Thats what my pic is DJ... look up.
427 Cobra was baddest of the bad. Read a story of a guy who'd tape a $100 bill to the passenger side visor. If his passenger could grab it between the time he left the line and reached 100mph.... it was his to keep. He never gave it away.

you are correct .

I'd go back to yesteryear.. to 1972.. one heluva year for big assed american sleds.

Hang did they have the T-top GP in 72, or was that later in the 70's?
-
Nope.. T-Tops were in the lil GP's built on the 'camaro' bodys later in the 70's. The 1972 Model J was the last of the long hood DeLorean Pontiacs, and considered by many to be his finest muscle car. I had a Hurst SSJ with a 455 in it.. freakin awsome.

Deja, I like Cobras ALOT. I think that it would be a close race. The Gt500KR is NO SLOUCH by any stretch of the imagination.
To hell with the drag strip. Open road.
It wasn't called "King of the Road" for nothing. I COULDN'T choose between the two.
I see both sides on this one.

NOW, the cobra I would want, is the "Rattlesnake" Carroll made (2 of them). One for himself (later turned into a "parts chaser") and the other one was built only for Bill Cosby after meeting up with Carroll.
Imagine this:
427
TWIN-Supercharged
900HP
MMMMOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMAAAAAAAAAA!
Bill Cosby's stand up of "180mph" is about his experience in THIS exact Cobra. He sold it to a fan who, drove it off of a cliff in california (surprise there) and plummeted to his death after hitting 190. This IS a true story.
Here is how it went down:
"Carroll Shelby was always one to try to outdo Ferrari. One unofficial record a Ferrari held was "0-100-0" time. A couple of Shelby American employees took at 427 Cobra out to see what it would do. They were clocked going from 0 to100 mph back to0 again in 13.8 secs. Try and grab that $100 bill taped to the dash...
The story goes that Bill Cosby, the comedian asked Shelby for a special Cobra, you know, one of a kind. Shelby put twin superchargers on a 427 Cobra. That lethal combination put out 900 horsepower!
Cosby owned a Rolls Royce that quit running on him so he decided to replace the car with a car would do over 180 mph. One day he while driving his Ferrari, he happened to bump into Carroll Shelby. Shelby told him that he should be driving a real sports car, an American one, not some foreign car. Cosby said American cars would only go 160 mph and he wanted one that would go at least 180 mph. Shelby told him they would build a special Cobra for Cosby, one that would go 200 mph. Cosby told him to go for it. He said he was like a kid waiting for Christmas to come. Shelby American delivered the Cobra to him at home. "Here are the keys to your Cobra", the man said. It was all blue with side exhaust that wrapped clear around the car. Now imagine this, Shelby built a 900 horsepower, supercharged 427 engine for this Cobra. They even put a special plaque on the dash for him. Cosby got into the car and started it up. It roared to life. He turned it off faster than he had started it. He said his hair on his head went straight up. And he was just idling. He hadn't even put his "foot on the gas pedal and he was killing people." His impulse was to get out of the car, but his manhood wouldn't let him. Besides what would he tell Shelby. He had to drive it at least once. He put his foot on the brake as far as it would go, checked everything, fastened his seatbelt, which he never wore. He started the car again. It ROARED to life, he let the clutch out and he immediately began circling the tree in his yard. He shut it off, took the keys out, and gave the keys back to the Shelby American employee. He told him, take this car, its already paid for and give it to George Wallace."
I know this was long but COME ON, a 900HP Cobra. To hell with the standard 427!

I'm sorry Masherburn... but you do know I'm talking about a 427SC Cobra and not a mustang.. .right?
335HP / 4500 lbs does not compare to 450HP / 1700 lbs.
I couldn't find the 1/4 mile numbers on the SC Cobra on the web, but if they're over 12 seconds I'd be suprised (15 seconds for the 500KR). It held the 0-60 acceleration record well into the 1990's.
Trust me... with this car, its not even close.
Not saying the Mustangs were slouches.... I love the Fastbacks of that era... just saying they're no 427SC Cobra.

The latest side oiler ac cobra that shelby is building is an aluminum 500 incher with an intercooled supercharger.. It put out 1150 hp on the dyno through the mufflers. Yes... shelby is building a few ac cobras from '60's chasssis that "turned up". The article in question is in the latest issue of "superchevy" if anyone is interested.
the original 427 ac cobra was a side oiler FE motor rated at 425hp with two 4 bbls. it would turn high 12sec quarters pretty easy (depending on gearing) It was a 2600 lb car. My healey is around 2100 lbs and the small block puts out an easy 400+ hp. It runs low 12's with 3.76 gears and a 4 speed. There is no car that I know of that accelerates so hard that you couldn't grab something off the dash.... I could throw you around enough tho in my car that you simply wouldn't want to attempt it but the acceleration force would not do it... What happens is that you are straining forward and then g forces stop as the driver shifts... grabbing gears is what keeps you bouncing around. The 100 dollar bill thing has been around since the days of "hot rod lincoln".

The site I saw listed 3780 for the GT500KR (Ya.. less than the 4500 I stated).
It still doesn't compare though. Really... even the FASTEST mustangs couldn't catch the 427SC Cobra.
GT40 on the other hand.... Seems it would be a great race (until the first corner).

I've seen 427SC's beat GT40's many times in vintage racing. GT40's were endurance racers, not sprint machines. Mustangs aren't even close, Corvettes even worse.
BTW Lazs ol' Shel got in trouble for those "turned up" chassis. Turns out they were brand new chassis they had beat up with wrenches and hammers and left out in the yard for a winter to weather.
-
yep... knew that funked.. Met ol shel once.. he is quite a character. I woulda done the exact same thing... I mean you aren't being dishonest to anyoone but a bunch of souless, weenie government agencies... I mean... does the world need more 427 cobras or.... beurocrats?
deja... even 3800 is kinda high. Just weighed my air conditioned big block el camino at the scales with a full tank ( for regestration purposes) and it was 3660. A base small block mustang was about 3100 so you would need to add a lot of stuff to get 700 more pounds. 4500 tho really took me by surprise.
funked.. friend of mine is in the shelby club and owns both a 350gt clone and a 427 cobra clone. He races both. the mustang actually is easier to drive (which fits my recolection)... in this day of factory extreme g machines like the new vette... We forget how difficult it was to drive short wheelbase 5-6 lbs/hp cars relatively unsophisticated suspension.

This is the car. I'd go back and make some investments to buy all the others.:)
