For any of you out there who are as crazy as I am about your joystick ....eh, hehe.

The guts to my Cougar are on their way back from Australia as I type!

Thinking about doing the same thing SOB. I still don't have any increase in the initial feeling of "play" on any axis but I would like a smoother feel to the stick when I pull across the axis.
Let us know how it feels when you get it back.
-
I droped him a line and found it is nearly 200 canadian to get the uber mod..looks nice though.
-
Only about $100 Ammurican before shipping - I like it when exchange rates work for me! :)
For $85 AUS tho', you can get rid of the slop and get the brass bushings.

You are insane.

it's in french (all dimension in millimeter)

Thrustmaster have got a neck made of brass if they expect us to shell out 250 quid and another 100 for rudders THEN spend more fixing things that shouldn't need fixing. I have a cougar and I like it, but to hell with that!
I think these guys think we should spend more for the privelage of having to mod the thing ourselves:mad:
-
I doubt Guillemot/ThrustMaster gives a crap what you do with your Cougar now that you've purchased it. This guy is an end-user with a talent for machining who's doing mods out of his shop.
Thanks for the link Straffo...
Yes Funked, I am crazy - crazy like a... uh, well, yeah I'm crazy :D

SOB if you need help to translate anything feel free to mail me frederic.de.jager@free.fr

My Cougar guts were waiting at my door when I got home from work yesterday. I installed them last night, but haven't played online with it yet. So far, it feels excellent - much closer to the feel of the F22 Pro...not in resistance, but in feel.
Now to play some Aces High, but I'll have to wait until after work...err, wait, I think I've got a fever :o ;)

That's OK Straffo - It looks like a pretty sweet mod, and I bet it's really smoth, even when crossing axis - but it's too much for me. I just have a sick love of flight sim controls and like to see what people do to "make it their own".

How did the uber mod work out?
-
I only flew that afternoon, but it worked wonderfully. The only snafu is that my handle is the slightest bit tilted to the right, but it doesn't affect the outstanding centering or my flying - it's only noticeable when the stick is sitting directly in front of you and you're staring at it. All in all, I'm glad I did it...I'm not sure that the bearings do anything for the feel of the stick, but I like having them there all the same. I'm guessing tho', that it would be just as nice with only the bushing mod done.
Hopefully I'll get up for TOD on Friday night and fly with it some more.
Money well spent, IMO.

PUNT
Hows the mod working....
-
By all accounts Pongo the Uber mods are working nicely.
Here is another mod that is taking shape and from all accounts is worth the money. Evenstrain Mod for Cougar. (http://www.4anidea.com/evenstrain/)
Link to Frugal's World forum with pictures of Evenstrain Gimbals Mod for Cougar. (http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30668)
It might be worth the money and I even have tried thinking of ways to slip this one by my wife. But I have decided that feeding her while she is pregnant with our 2nd child is better than feeding my addiction to flight sims. :D
-
Still works great Pongo. I just decided to go ahead and get the mod to install Hall Effect sensors in to replace the pots. I don't have any control issues, but I'd bet the Halls will last damn near forever.
Cool Reschke, I thought that guy said he wasn't going to do those except for his own Cougar...nice to see he changed his mind! Check that out when he gets pics up Pongo...very interesting concept.

600 US..That would make my cougar worth 1200 canadian.
-
Holy toejame! I didn't look at the price . n/m, the Uber Cougar mod works great!
SOB
-
And the hall sensor mod works great as well :)
-
Will the uber mod guy do the hal sensor mod as well? Or is it easy enough without.
-
The price of nearly $600 USD includes the Hall Sensor mod in the Evenstrain as well. You can buy the Evenstrain without the HS mod but then you have to go find and buy them yourself and install it as well. Since that is the only "pot" Evenstrain is making the gimbals to fit with it seems like a bit of a monopoly..:p
-
I don't think the Uber Cougar guy does the hall sensors. From what I read it sounds easy enough to install separately. You just have to be willing to solder 6 wires together (not at a circuit board or contact - just wire to wire). Since the Uber mod doesn't change the way the pots/HE sensors are mounted, that shouldn't pose an issue. The HE sensors are about $129 tho'.

Fitted Hall sensor mod yesterday, easy enuf 6 wires to solder and for the dense plenty of instructions.
Different guy for the hall sensor mods but i believe he's gonna supply the evenstrain guy although i could be wrong.

You are correct on the supply part Cav. The Hall Sensor guy is supplying the Evenstrain guy for his mod so you don't have to buy the Hall Sensors and then ship them separately from the Cougar base.
