Title: I wonder what else has been said about me :)
Post by: Curval on August 28, 2002, 09:59:25 AM
Last night I was engaged with a P51..I was flying a 190A5.

We ended up on the deck after a while in a turn fight...stall warning sounding continuously..flaps up, flaps down...turn, turn turn, drop gear, raise gear, WEP on, WEP off.....etc.

A friendly Spitfire shows up and forces the P51 to break off..and the chase is on.

Spitty and I catch the P51 at roughly the same time, although the Spit definately forced the P51 to turn, which allowed me to catch up.

I'm not sure if I hit the P51 with a deflection shot, or whether he crashed...either way I was awarded the kill.

The Spitfire pilot squeaked that I stole his kill and called me a few unflattering names on the range channel.

I haven't had vox for months due to a firewall issue and had borrowed a friend's connection to play last night.  I heard the squeaking but didn't respond.

Makes me wonder what else has been said about me.:D

The inability to squelch the voice comms is very annoying.  Not that people are yelling at me but the needless dribble of commentary and crap going on at various times.

As to your situation, Curval, I still roll my eyes when I get a guy smoking, missing a wing, on fire and headed to Earth....and see 3 of our guys diving in on him, trying to do some more damage to get credit for the kill.

I'm dialup, no firewall or router here.  Is there an option somewhere to turn AHVoice off completely?  There are times when its handly...but when the chatter is absurd whinning, or not even game related, its got to go.

Just my 2 cents

Always ignore spit dweebs.

Incidentally, what is the purpose of dropping gear during a fight?  It sounds gamey, and what can it do for you?

it isn't gamey
it increases drag, slows down the AC... can really help when trying to saddle up or keep speed in check during descent

also helps with landing

To slow me down and force the overshoot.  Gamey?  You calling me Gamey....let's step outside and discuss that.;)

Personally I would not have brother to even make your post "unless your a shallow person" I'm not trying to be rude . AH is just a game nothing more...I think its funny when someone steals a kill from me...but then again I don't play for score or ranking I play for enjoyment.

Kill stealing is the lamest of all whines.

Enemy ded
Nuff said

I think you should identify the whiner, fly about 1k away from him all night in a P-47, and then dive in and light up any plane he shoots.

Now thats fun!

LOL...so your NOT trying to be rude by calling me shallow...hmm..I see.

Frankly I could say the same about someone who responds to my shallow post with an even more shallow response.:p

The whole point of this thread was me wondering what else was being said about ME when I don't have vox.  It would only make me laugh...(note the smiley face in my original post)

Take a look at my score/ranking man...if you think I care about that then you are nuts.

Honestly, until the thing goes boom, the kill ain't yours.

What IS annoying is when you blow someone's wing off and immediately see the vultures head for the body as it falls to earth, but even then, there isn't a lot you can do about it.

Catching Spies, you CANNOT be an adult.  I never called you rude.  I merely pointed out an unnecessary grammatical sentence.
Don't put words out there that I NEVER said.  I'm not rude, when a plane is hurling towards the ground and 20ft. from ground-impact someone swoops in and takes it from you.  They ARE an amazinhunk.

Couple observations:
A) Wonder if real WW2 pilots ever said "Did you see that? He forced me to overshoot by dropping his gear!  How GAMEY!"

B)Who the hell is Catching Spies and why doesn't he post his online handle?  No testicles?

>>I still roll my eyes when I get a guy smoking, missing a wing, on fire and headed to Earth....and see 3 of our guys diving in on him, trying to do some more damage to get credit for the kill. <<

Feeding time at the zoo.
There are a lot of players who play the game differently. There are kill stealers and there are those who have legitimate claim to a kill, who never get it because they were using mgs instead of cannon. I have noticed that the cannon armed guys will swoop in on a cripple just to get the kill without working for it; bottom feeders IMO.

I take offense to those who will fly in front of you to steal yer kill and claim innocence. The dive down from their perch after you have done the work of manuever to make the steal, knowing if they get in front of you, you will die to killshooter.
I have seen a lot of BS written here in defense of this but, IMO a steal is a steal, and the dweeb who does it should get lambasted. How else will he know it offends others if you don't say anything? In Curvals case, that guy was just deluded to think he could steal a kill and claim it as his own.

They must be having a crap time, think about it, we enjoy it because we get better and better, these guys just keep doing the same old crap finishing off already dieing planes! BORING! :)

Ripsnort,

It is gamey because in most WWII fighters it would be awkward, if not impossible, to drop gear during a dogfight.  For example, an F4F required over 20 cranks to drop the gear, and again to retract them.  In planes with powered landing gear mechanisms, a smart pilot would not want to drop the gear for fear that the mechanism would fail while the gear was down, leaving him a helpless target.  Plus the fact that most gear could not be safely lowered below 175mph.  If you are already below 175mph, it doesn't take much to bleed off your remaining energy, just pull 4 g's.

I have never read of a WWII fight were a pilot used his gear to bleed speed, though I imagine it must have happened.

Stepping in here for my squaddie Cruval, although he doesn’t need it…

Curval:  This is interesting and I find it funny

Catching Spies:  I have a big blue hat.  My hat is blue.  I like blue hats.  Can we talk about my blue hat?  No! I’m not giving you my hat!

Oh, and this is general discussion about AH therefore anything even remotely related to AH, ie laughing about someone blowing a fuse and accusing another of kill stealing can be covered here.

Who are you?  Oh… Nobody, right.  Cary on please.

ALL Kill Stealers are ashholes??  Really?

I generally try not to be the Flaming Sphincter of Death outside the office, yet last Friday, before the TOD, I found myself in a HurriIIc in the main trying to get some air time before the event.  Ran across a smoking 109 with two friendlies over one of our fields.  109 was still under power and turned into me, so I took a high deflection shot.

Saw one ping; at the left wing root.  Hizookas are not kind to wings, and the next thing I know the wing and aircraft were going different directions.

I got credit for the kill.  Did I deserve it?  Probably not.  Did I intentionally steal someone's kill?  Not a chance.  KS can be pretty grey, but grey or not getting your panties in a wad over it is a waste of perfectly good flying time.

So squeak away.  Your blood pressure is elevated and you've behaved like a petulant child.  You sure showed me, didn't you?

When you a craft hurling towards the earth ENGULFED IN FLAMES.  Not Manuevering horizontally and it is 20 ft. off of the ground, it is NOT DELIBERATE?!  Get off of your high horse.

I dunno about this incident but I called out on private channel to guys in your squad who have chased down flaming planes that others, including myself have shot up.

I watched joecrip's film of zip doing this very same thing.

joe gives zip check 6, clears zip, kills attacker, Zip reverses shoots plane free falling to the deck.

In one 2 minute period blueice (when he was still in your squad) chased a 51 whos wing I shot off to the deck and exploded him. Then grabbed to see a free falling la7, my wingman Soviet shot up and cleared off of me,  blueice exploded him as well. We had a polite chat on private channel and we both salutes each other. Then other members of his squad start squeaking at me for calling him on it on channel 2.

So theres a history of "killstealing" I dunno what happened in this instance but it could be a case of someone else knowing this history and too quickly jumped on curval.

Most of my guys in my squad fly to get kills period. We dont enter the main just to cruise around for an hour. I know thats a shock to some of yas but hey thats the way it is.

that said in a furball of numerous folks all chasing after kills sometimes 2 or folks end up chasing a guy and both firing. This aint kill stealing. These folks are all after the same thing. But when planes are clearly unflyable and in a free fall to the deck and a guy chases him down thats "killstealing".

Just my 2 cents

That's why I fire until the target blows up.  Even when I take off a critical part of the enema's aircraft and he's fluttering in the wind, I will still come around for another pass and pour more lead into him to make him blow up.  Only time I won't do it is if I'm flying solo or with squadmates or guys that I know aren't a bunch of kill stealers.

Many times because delay/lag on the internet or the graphic quality it is diffcult to determine a plane is going down. You may see a plane going down with one wing missing, I may see the plane still intact flying, another may see something totally different. "If it really matters smile and go on to the next con" I have concluded yelling at your monitor is not going to change anything.

Asside from lag there are other issues to consider, for example when you're high and ya see a friendly chasing a low con beneath you, is he under 300 yards and getting pings or is he 800 yards back and firing .303s in the hope the guy will turn?  Sometimes it's hard to tell and you dont have long to make the decision, is bouncing the con stealing the kill?  Some would whine so.....

When a con is smoking 3 different flavours is it a kill steal to finish him?

Bollocks is it.  If a con isnt going down trailing black smoke and missing a wing or three then it's still a threat and threats need to be dealt with.

What is bollocks is watching 12 friendlies chasing a single low con when there's another 20 inbound high.

I had no idea I had that much affect on your psyche Wotan?  Actually from the small tone in the post, it sounds like our whole squad does.  Allied envy maybe?  Just break down and jump in big blue you’ll feel much better once you get that boot strap out of your ass.

No it’s not a shock, we all know most of your squad spends a lot of time online.  That’s probably why the small things bother you all so much.

I read somewhere that some FW pilots did drop the landing gear to evade pursuing nmez; usually to get tighter turns. Drpooed gear, as has been posted here does bleed E. I would onl;y do it out of desperation tho.
