kudos to the CM

Wanted to give this a try, but after two lockups, and one CTD, decided to give it up. Sorry IJN.

Popeye, must have been the Philippines terrain I'm guessing.
-
no it was played out on "The Slot" terrain, and even though i was stuck on stupid and forgot my sbd had a rear gunner ... duh ! and i got shot down ... I hitched a ride in Moose's rear gunner position for the rest of the event and had a great time !!!
all for putting this on .

Moose, ask Tumor who the VAL was that lit him up like a 42nd street marque at the end. Good thing the speed of the F4F allowed him to runaway ;)
Back to the CV strike.....
I was perplexed as to how 10 Vals could miss the CV when we dive bombed it. So I stayed up a bit later and watched the film I'd gotten of the whole thing. It showed our 10 VALs' were dead on target. When we went into our vertical descent the flattop was right below us. Turning yes, but we released low and very nicely. However during the dive the CV shifted (not a warp or Star Trek like "beam out - beam in" in type of thing) and ended moving several miles away from where we dropped. Which was basically on empty ocean. Is this an arena bug or a film viewer problem?
its a film problem, i'm pretty sure
a lot of vals hit the cv but i saw a lot of hits to the sides and back behind her and stuff. maybe splash damage counts as a hit but only is like 1/3rd the power of the bomb drop, etc.

The reason the CV didn't go down is because for gameplay reasons the CV hardness is around 8000 lbs of ordnance. I checked the raw data and the "Lady Lex" was hit by 18 bombs. Unfortunately, the logs do not state whether they were 250kg or 50kg.
out of the 18 bombs that hit, only 4 pilots hit with all three of their eggs. These are the only confirmed 250kg bombs and 50kg bombs (4 250's and 8 50's for 1400 kgs worth) The other 6 bombs we don't know about. However, two pilots hit with one, and two pilots hit with two, so I'd venture to guess it was 2 250's and 4 50's (since the 250 drops alone and the 50's drop together, if salvoed). That's about 700kg worth. Best case scenario would be 4 250's and 2 50's. for 1100kg. Worst case is 6 50's for just 300kg.
So you've got between 1700kg and 2500kg hitting the Lex. The 2500kg is about 5500lbs, which is nowhere near enough to sink the ship. 11 Vals fully on target would come close to 8000lbs. Basically, we really needed some of the TBMs to get the torps on target to sink the ship.
We (BigMax and I) thought about reducing the ship hardness before the event, however, since it was Nef's writeup and he didn't specify we left it alone.
It would have been an awesome sight if Aces High had progressive damage for ships. The Lex would have been belching a LOT of black smoke and I doubt would have been able to recover any planes. The guys woulda had to land on the Yorktown. :)

The TBM group gave it their best shot. In hindsight, I should have ordered the group to split up and turn fight the incoming F4F's.
I made the mistake as flight leader to have the group close up, and try and cover each other with their guns. Needless to say, this order allowed the F4Fs to cut our flight to pieces.
I failed the mission, and for this, I apoogize to all those under my command.
to all those who participated and a special to Yeager for all his help, and for manning my guns when his plane went down.
Thanks guys.

sorry guys that the TBM's didnt make it I was leading the escort flight with only 3 zeke's the TBM flight was jumped by at least 10-12 SBD's and F4F's we did our best we downed 7 before we bought it
to moloch and frogman who were with me in zekes

TBMs are meat on the table, no ifs ands or buts about it. You guys did as well as you could after being spotted.

Next snapshot les try to get the side numbers to match the write up.
I was supposed to be 60% axis 40% allies.

Formation for the Bombers might have helped. Fighters along the sides and 1 or two on top. Shrug, I wasnt there so just a thought.
