I'm not sure about this one. I connect to the Net using a Satellite return system. The game seems to play fine. My FR is in the upper 70's at all times and connection seems to be solid. Will this effect may game play? I live in the Boonies and this is the fastest option I have besides 56k analog. Please tell me it will be fine. I want to continue to paly but dont want to be Mr warpy!

Zire~

If your connect is equal to or better then 56k you should not have a problem. Have you been using the game with the current satellite connection?

You may want to get Skuzzys opinion regarding sat links.
Afaik sat links are not recomended for game playing because of the inherent delay built in due to the time needed to bounce the signal up to and back from the sat.
A fast download connection is not required to play AH, in your case i believe you would almost certainly be better playing on a normal 28k/56k land line connection.
However if you believe you have been playing ok and not getting continous complaints of you warping then go for it.

Eeeekk...
Seriously on satellite? or on a LOS system(mini dish aimed at a tower)
Satellite: You shoot player A on your comp, the delay between you seeing your hits and then the server seeing them maybe at least a second ... It may take twice that for you to see any parts come off the badguy...

Keith..
I'm not a techy guy but I can relate to you to some realistic experience:
I live at the last telephone pole prior to a mile or two of nothing but corn field (this year, last year was wheat). The end of the cable connections for TV/Puter etc is about 1/2 mile back up the road and they ain't never running it to us 3 people on this end. Tv comes in via Satellite. We also have the ability to use Satellite connection for computer. I find that if I use Satellite connection I get "Ping Details" on log in of ~600 or so. Some times play is fine , no lag. Then there are times I intermitingly get BIG lags/warps. If I log in using phone line exclusively I typically get "ping Details" ~ 250 or so steady. Prior to the phone company installing new box down the road we could not get on internet above 23k, yet play was still ok. Since new box phone line conections are at 43K and play is totaly fine.
I'd stick with phone line for game play..

Dartman we could be neighors only I live in Michigan :D
This year it's Sugar Beets , last year was corn .
I play at 21600 most times with no lag or warp , you HAVE to have a STEADY connection for good play .
I want a Sat for pc too but am sad to hear it doesn't work that good "yet" .

I am in the same boat here in the boonies...
" Roosterpoot Missouri " :D
My television is satellite and I seriously investigated the PC satellite for gameplay and was advised by many that had tried the satellite connection to a game to use my dial up for gaming and the satellite for surfing....

Satellite connections are pretty useless for anything real-time from/to the Internet. The packet latency will be at least 1 second up to 3 seconds.
In a real-time game, such as AH, what you see on your computer will be at least 1 second behind what everyone else sees. And when they see you they are seeing you 1 second from your real position on your computer.
Everything can look smooth as silk on your end, but your are still running at least 1 second behind everyone else.
56K dial-up would be significantly better for any real-time activities.
