Title: Bf109F windscreen question
Post by: Pongo on September 03, 2002, 10:43:58 AM
What is the split on the left windscreen on the 109E and F that was gone on the 109G? Playing Il2 it is really noticible and I can find no mention in my references as to what it was for. Could that screen be opened?

Yep, front part of that "glass" did slide back. There should also be a handle knob in that windscreen near front edge of the glass.

He means the split on the left triangular pane on the windshield, not the split hinged canopy.

Yes that thing could pivot much the same as a quarter window on old cars IIRC.

Somewhere was a story that A.Galland had a cigaret lighter installed in his 109, not sure if it was just a BS.

Galland had a cigar holder installed in his plane.  He mentiones it in some of his anecdotes about flying the 109.
