Hope my attachment works :D:rolleyes:

Damm... it didn't .. Oh well picture this

Roster shot, taken 10 minutes ago...

Bishops.. 135 players. Knights ..141 players Rooks.. 54 players.

Now granted this is maybe 30 minutes before the end. But an hour ago there where on 96 Rooks.

Bring in the 2 country system.

The 2 country system would just lead to 1 side having more....It's not that simple.

Ok then, how about this. ANY country outnumbered by 3 to 1 odds should get at least 1.5X the normal perkies.

This would:

1) Discourage the massive changeover prior to an obvious reset
2) Encourage pilots to JOIN the country with the lower numbers
3) Stop that countries pilots from logging
4) Actually reflect the greater difficulty involved in shooting down planes when you are massively outnumbered.

IMO the landgrab compounds the problem--a country that's losing (usually losing because it has less people) will only suffer more and more population loss as people log off in frustration.

I'd prefer a system where the frontline bases were capturable, with a fair number of rear fields being un-capturable.

I tried to be rook when I was new - my very first kill I was cussed out on voice and 3 other channels text.  I took this as a bad sign :)

J_A_B has a point.  The requirement to pound one side down to one field left may be a significant contributing factor.  It might be better if the first side to be reduced to five or ten fields lost the war.

"It might be better if the first side to be reduced to five or ten fields lost the war."

And with the new 250+ field terrains there's no good argument against such a system :)

It'd have to be certain set fields uncapturable though (like a "home" area for each country), otherwise you could very well end up with 5 fields scattered around the map which wouldn't be any better than just having 1 or 2 fields left.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm a Rook, you do NOT see me whining about numbers.  My biggest whine is the useless tactics employed by some rooks.  10 fighters on one con, kill stealing, and lack of cooperation when in tight situations.

I understand "everyone pay's to play, blah, blah, blah".  But if you don't want to act like a team, join the bishes or knights.  We don't need the needless wishes to date Mandie.   Last week, I squelched 4 Rooks because they were useless being in game, they should have been on a chat board.

I fly with your squadron ALOT.  FTSeeker, Trol, Piper know me VERY WELL.  I have made "a name for myself" as an prettythanghole (probably in the eyes of some rooks), I don't care.  Most Rooks don't see me that way.  I am tired of this same record being played.

This is NOT personally directed at you JR, understand that.

BUT, if ALL of the Rooks used some courtesy and tact when attacking bases we'd take more of them.   20 rooks around a "vulch lit" base, planes up and shoot down a couple of rooks because 15 of them are over a flattened town with ABSOLUTELY nothing in it (except earthworms).   That is what us Rooks need to address.

I love being the underdog, I have nothing to lose and since I can give a rat's bellybutton about rank, makes it even better.

FTJR, I know where you're coming from, but man, it wasn't even two weeks ago that we had the #'s and kicked the bishes butts cause of it.
Numbers help, but what is more important is what is done with those #'s.
Couple nights ago I logged in, saw the rooks down to 5 bases and outnumbered 4 or 5 to 1, said to hell with it and logged back off, thinking the arena would shortly reset.
Logged back in a couple hours later, rooks still way outnumbered, but up to 12 bases and climbing.
The few rooks online at that time got together and came out of their corner fighting as a team, and the base captures started rolling in as a result.
I don't, as a rule, pay that much attention to the #'s anymore.  And I don't feed into one player's statements "when we get equal or similiar #'s we kick ass" cause it just ain't true.
It's more about more about what the guys on each side do as a team than about the numbers for each side.  Teamwork pays off, and like Forrest Gump says, "That's all I got to say about that....."

Actually, in the squad Karaya can't hold a candle to my being an amazinhunk. I pride myself on the fact that I can out-squeak, out-whine, and generally be the squad salamander (although my protege Ax is coming along nicely).

Seriously now, you rooks need to leave Mandie alone. It's no wonder females don't play this game when you guys start hawking on her like it's an AOL chat room. I'm actually surprised, most of you are, what I thought to be, mature adults. If I wanted to read the inane chat of you love sick plebes, I would sign on with AOL. So, tone down the a/s/l chatter a bit...k?

And one last thing....I enjoy also being the underdogs. It's a well known fact rooks kick butt when the numbers even out, so the opposing two countries need as much help as possible when rook numbers are low. Thanks and have a nice day :)

Consider this as just a thought, but....

What if attrition were a factor? In other words, regardless of the number of fields controlled by any country, when a country reaches a total loss of, say 5,000 units (planes and vehicles), they lose and the team with the least losses wins. Not only does this add another set of circumstances, it will motivate people to try surviving, and reduce the suicide sorties. Combine this with field captures, IE: either method can cause a reset, but care need be exercised not to die needlessly.

Last evening, Rooks had 79 players, Bish had 134, Knits 192. My squad fought against the Knits and I was surprised at how many Knits were getting killed. It was rediculous at times. Suicide City. Talk about a target-rich environment.... It's always a good night when you go 41/0! Thank you Knights! Let's do it again soon. :D

My regards,

Widewing

what is it with you weenies and "survival"?  that's entirely a personal thing... AH is already "bad" enough in that reset is the ultimate goal (which does nothing except produce hordes of lemming hamstards), why would we want hordes of even *more* timid lemming hamstards?

it's been debated ad nasuem ad infinitum how any reward-based survivial, other than already reflected in the landed modifer, would simply produce what i just described... even *more* timid flying.

personally i think you guys are over-stating the "suicide" dweeb situation, i think they just hang around target too long either trying to cap or vulch and end up getting popped by a defender in  some manner.

i occasionally lawndart while divebombing, but it's never deliberately, and i will either stick around or wander off toward some other enemy base (instead of rtb) and look fro some action til I get killed or run out of gas.  to me survival is.... , i'll rtb sometimes if ammo/gas is low and i'm close enough, but otherwise i'll just keep going as long as possible.   nothing is more tasty than getting manuver kills while you're winchester.

Can you imagine the whining, when some poor newbie lets himself get vultched a few times?

Good thread Rip. I have been on AH over 2 years now and everyone spends their time at the whipping post.

Remember this is a game where a side has to win. It's not fair sometimes. It doesn't have to be fair. We are in simulated warfare, or at least trying to be in the MA.

Having 3 countries adds an interetsing dynamic as well. Sometimes you can ruin another sides reset or steal a reset, both of which are quite rewarding.

Generally sides win because of coordination and a little luck. Like bringing a whole strike package including troops, and bringing ord for the VH and FHs. Ord really helps take a base ;)

I remember when I could take a large air base all alone ;) That was fun!

In reality, all sides pretty much behave the same. There is no real Bish are like this, or Knits are like that, or Rooks are all crooks. This is an ever growing, ever changing mix, and will continue to be in the future.

Hey J_A_B  (note I know how to spell your name...lol)

The LandGrab is encouraged in the MA,  Thats why you get a big pat on the back for winning the war, and extra perks.  the MA is a LandGrab arena,  thats how its settup.   Having uncapturable feilds would mean nobody could win the war. (reset)

Im not a proponet of either settup,  I just see the MA that way.

I dont know if there is much support for trashing it.

Rip,

Im gald you pointed that out.   Its just the way of MA, Sometimes your up and sometimes your down.   Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

It seems for we rooks,  we need someone on had to get us organised to be truely effective.   I think we have a lot of lone wolves or lone wolf packs.    Still, when we do get moving, lookout... things happen ;)

Even if you have even numbers in a country,  there is still a good chance your going to have both the enemy hitting you hard, with little going on between them.  Dont let it rattle you,  just have a personal goal, and work towards that.

I try to do just that GRIMM, BUT I do not want to seem like a "desktop general".  If there are a large cluster of green dots clustered around a couple of red dots, I usually go somewhere productive.  Odd knows EXACTLY what I am talking about we've teamed up and taken bases, as well as the Flying Tigers.

Of Course if you been flying with Odd,  Well... the CAF will cover any medical costs incured ;)   lOl

Seriously we should all do a better job.  Maybe with Fall a coming, we will see things improve.   I know you guys do a hell of a job for the Rooks and alot of the other squads do too.
