A good FW190 pilot in a Dora is deadly.  However, it seems a lot of people are flying the Dora who have never spent much time in a 190.  Some of the lamest 1-v-1's I've had are against would-be Dora drivers who don't have a clue.  They just stir the stick a little, or try to run away when I'm already 200 yards behind them, thinking it's fast enough to get away from .50 cals.  I figure it's just a matter of time before a lot of those Dora drivers go back to their Nikis.

At least they're sticking around to fight you ra.

Here is my usual fight with Dora's now.

Co-E: Go for HO, miss badly, drop nose and never look back.

Them with E advantage: They come in with a huge E advantage, make 5-7 free gun passes until the E starts to equalize. Now they only have a 2k advantage instead of a 10k advantage, they drop the nose and start to run. Even if I'm in a Dora too.

Now dont' get me wrong people, I know what a BnZ plane is used for, and how it should be fought.  Its just that there is a huge difference between smart tactics when the fight starts to go bad, and being extremely timid and start to run before you even lose or equalize the advantage.

Alot of these new pilots have no clue how to fly the Dora. I personally will be REAL happy when they start to migrate back to the Chog and Niki.

30:1?  Dang.. that's pretty good.  I'm only 7:1 against them.

I hate those bloody DoRuns.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Mostly just because the A5's and A8's were such good fights versus my Jug.  The DoRuns just make a pass or two and vanish in my experience, only to re-appear after you are suitably engaged with another con.  The real pisser is, I can't catch the bastiges!

<S> guys, there are a lot of smart Dora pilots around.  Can't fault you for flying smart, but it's damned frustrating for a Jug pilot.

Bah.. I admit, it's mostly just sour grapes be cause I have been SUCKING this tour.

Think I like the "hunstangs" label I heard the other day better than "DoRuns". (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Been calling them Dorka's since 1998, and will continue to do so  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

So what do we call the La7's?

Ì use to call the La7s Crap-o-chkins    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif). I fear them when I'm in a Dora (wich is 85% of my flying time now    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif))

Oh, Vermillion, the type of fight you are describing fits just great to the previous 15months of P51 in AH MA...Its nothing new here, just different planes    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

BTW I'm still staying and fiting instead of running. Just half an hour before I was without an aileron, low on ammo and low on fuel and rtbing back followed by a bish 190D9 wich was stuck on my six at 2k yards...

I engaged him. I won. There are lots of pilots in the D9 who have no idea on what can their plane do on a close fight. Just as there were lots of pilots in previous versions who had no idea on what could a P51D do on a close fight. They just BnZ and run, run, run as soon as the E states come into something qualifiable as "equal"   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

But at least the dora can be caught by the La7 and tempest   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) so those pilots will soon move away from the 190d9, because they simply suck at something that is not running   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I love the dora   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

RAM, while I mostly agree with you, it never seemed like the Pony was as popular as the Dora currently is, which makes the problem feel worse, even though its the same issue we have always dealt with.

Plus it seemed that a larger majority of the Pony drivers were dedicated pilots that flew their planes closer to the edge. Where with the Dora , it seems like there are alot of turn fighter converts flying them in an extremely timid way.

I'm all for smart flying, I just don't want them all to be a little wussy pilots  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) (to steal a term from the TV show "Titus")

Not too long ago I was flying a Spit V on a low level fighter sweep when I was attacked by a slightly higher F4U-1C and Fw190D-9.  After a bit of mixing it up (they were foolishly turning with me) in which they repeatedly got me off of the other guy's tail, I manged to get a burst off at the D-9 from a range of about 400 yard (longer than I like, but I was in a bit of a spot) and off goes the D-9 never to return, he left his wingy to his, unpleasant, fate.  I wish I'd gotten that D-9, whouda had a 5.5 perk sortie instead of a 3.5 perk sortie.

RAM,
I'd be interested in getting some tips on how to fly the D-9 from you.  Do you suppose that we could get together in the TA at some point?
