Title: questions about fm's, external drag, gunnery and dammage
Post by: -ik- on July 26, 1999, 03:06:00 AM
Ok, questions, i'll make it quick and dirty  (http://beta.hitechcreations.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)

1. External drag from ordnance?

2. External drag from bomb racks and external fuel tank racks after they're dropped or jetissoned?

3. Different ammunition types to choose from? HE, HEI, AP, API, things like that?

4. Dammage modelling includes penetration / pass through dammage?

5. Coolant leaks?

6. Engine controls, mixture, prop pitch?

7. 109G-10 has a DB 605AS, or 605DM?  (http://beta.hitechcreations.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)

8. cg changes with loaded ordnance?

Bonus question: will ditches be counted as kills/victories in scoring like it was historically? No more slam ditching at 300mph just so the other guy doesn't get a kill plz!  (http://beta.hitechcreations.com/ubb/redface.gif)

Ok I know I ask way too many questions, but even a few answer would be really appreciated!

Damn ik, I was just ask about these but you were faster. Oh well...

But drag caused by external stores should be modeled, it is important factor. I hate to chase heavy P-38's in Warbirds when I know they are not a bit slower with their rockets and 2 X 1000 lb bombs.

External store drag gives bomber pilots reason to exist since heavy fighters will get killed or they are forced to jettison their ordnance before target if engaged.

This could be sticky...  ever seen what a Spit's bombrack looks like. After the bomb has gone, it prolly takes about 1 mph off the speed.

1- Yes
2- Depends, probably won't on bomb racks.  Will mainly do it on real bulky stuff like rocket tubes and such.
3- I doubt it.  Dale was looking to implement something along those lines, but so far there's not a very efficient way to do it without it being gimmicky.  One thing you can do is select between using tracers or not using tracers.
4- That's not a simple question to answer.  I can't talk too much more about what we're doing there without giving away the recipe.
5- Yes.
6- No.
7- 605DM
8- Not much.  You'll notice it in the roll axis if you have bombs mounted on the wing and only drop one.
Bonus- Probably not but I don't know yet.  I've been thinking about some different ways to award kills, so we'll see.

I'd just like to cast my vote & ask you guys to reconsider your decision to only have the simple engine model.

I think that there's just so much more to these aircraft than just pointing them in the right direction and pulling the trigger.  Please give us a simulation of the aircraft, not just the combat.

Can this be expanded so we can set the spacing of tracers?

I dont want to have no tracers, but I would like a lot less than presently modelled in WB.

Ivedog:  That is getting beyond the scope of what we're trying to do.  We realize that there's a lot more to flying these planes, but our focus is primarily on the stick and rudder part of flying.

Carrot:  Good idea.  HT said he'd look into doing that.
